It hasn't really been Jessica Simpson's year. We all felt for her after her surprise breakup with Tony Romo, then her dog Daisy was snatched up by a coyote! Despite the drama, Jessica is hopeful that she'll find love again, and this time may even let her fingers do the talking online.

I've never embarked on any online dating adventures, but I have many friends who have - some have found love, while others have had miserable experiences. The whole idea of having to weed through potential suitors not only to determine which ones have legit profiles, but also to decipher which ones could be a potential match seems so daunting. Now if I were searching for love online, a new service for Skype called Skyecandy seems like a quick and painless way to meet people. Skyecandy is a speed-dating service that matches you up with real people via Skype and your webcam. From there you chat with people in five-minute intervals, and when the five minutes is over, you click yes or no to indicate if you're interested. If both parties click yes then you can continue chatting with that person for free over Skype. Sound good to you?

Match.com Posts Fake Profiles, Man Sues For Humiliation

One of the reasons some people are wary of online dating is that people tend to stretch the truth when describing themselves. Perhaps you can build up a BS detector for embellishments of electronic personalities, but what if the dating prospects were not even real?

That's what happened to New Yorker Sean McGinn, who's suing dating site Match.com for keeping around profiles of former users so that it would look like the site had far more romantic prospects than it did. McGinn is suing over deception, because he sent out many emails to profiles that were essentially dead. Match.com caused him "humiliation and disappointment," and he wants to stop Match from hurting the feelings of singles "who feel rejected when their e-mails get no reply."

For some people, it's a big leap to start online dating, and knowing that you may be signing up for even more rejection (however genuine) is a total deterrent.

So aside from McGinn, I know plenty of people with horror stories about love and the laptop. What's your worst online dating story?

When the iPhone came out everyone went bananas over the so-called iDating phenomenon, so it's no shock someone has found a way to sneak Twitter into the online love game. Case in point - radaroo, a new Twitter dating app. You tweet your gender, preferred date's gender, zip code, and a series of interests. After you submit your status you wait while Radaroo detects it and lets others know you are single and ready to mingle. The service is free, seems painless enough and doesn't require a complicated dating site profile. The notion of scoping out a cutie's tweets to get to know him sounds dreamy, but I can't say I share my greatest insights on Twitter. Would you be open to tweet love?

What Do You Think About Online Dating?

A good majority of you said that you've found either a date/fiancé or spouse online, so you may be surprised that there's actually a new book entitled Why I Hate to Date Online that exposes the perils of finding love online.

Author MaryAnna Donovan offers an honest perspective about the trials and tribulations associated with online dating and discusses all aspects of online dating - from the 50-year old guy pretending he's a 26-year old girl to the serial online stalkers - and dubs it as "The meat market of the millennium." Having tried it herself, she offers advice for those who want to stay in the "cyber-dating game" but ultimately believes that no matter what the staggering stats are, online dating doesn't efficiently meets the needs of today's partner-seeking singles.

I can't say that I've found love online but I know many people that have. My theory is to each his own and if you give it a try and it works - then great! I mean, even in real life you usually have to kiss a few frogs (or date a few sketchy-stalkers) to find your prince, right?! What's your take?

Online dating used to have such a stigma attached to it, but with more people logging on and looking for love, it's becoming just as common as trolling your local bar for a boyfriend.

In fact, with many dates being preceded by a Googling of his name and a perusal of his Facebook page, the Internet is now inextricable with modern love.

Just look at the amount of dating sites there are, like Match.com and eHarmony, plus niche sites that have popped up for flirting, like I'm in Like With You, not to mention the amount of "poking" that goes on on Facebook.

Microsoft Wants You to Creep Out Regular People, Not Just Celebrities

One day, you may be able to upload his face to your dating website of choice when you're looking for love and find the regular Joe who most closely resembles your celebrity crush. This is what Microsoft's new patent, called Image-Based Face Search will do - instead of entering age/religion/location, just browse for that Clooney pic you keep on your desktop and bam! Virtual George is in your hometown.

Does this make anyone else feel shallow and kinda dirty? And yet, I would be lying if I didn't tell you I was way past curious to see the local single men who resemble my beloved Jim Halpert. Dirty feeling or not, tell me whose picture you'd upload!

Online Dating Disaster in Broken English

I got around to Netflixing the movie Broken English this weekend, and I was really touched by the story of Nora (the always fabulous Parker Posey), a lovelorn thirtysomething living in New York City. Single and unsatisfied, the first half of the movie courts your sympathies for Nora and the loneliness she's experiencing in many parts of her life.

Frustrated by her lack of men in the beginning, she happens upon a Match.com-like dating site and gets some pretty funny - yet harsh and straightforward news: "Your selection didn't turn up anything." Online dating sometimes makes you feel like there's slim-pickins out there. We feel your pain, Nora.
