Fear not my fine friends, my series on Office Slang you should introduce to your vocabulary is not finished yet! If your office life has been boring at best I suggest using a little geeky lingo to loosen up your co-workers and create a fun working atmosphere. My favorite slang on this week's list is "Stress Puppy," as in a person who thrives on being stressed-out and whiny. You can use it like this: "I really wish Jessica wasn't such a stress puppy when it comes to getting her work done, I'd ask her to take the day off with us and go to the beach. Then again, if we did invite her, she'd talk abut work all day anyway."

Stress Puppy - A person who thrives on being stressed-out and whiny.

Swiped Out - An ATM or credit card that has been used so much its magnetic strip is worn away. For example: "I almost swiped out my credit card this weekend by using it in my new purse with the magnetic closure."

Tourists - The type of people that take training classes or continuing education classes just to get a little vacation from their jobs. For example: “There were only a few serious people in the class; the rest were just tourists.”

Uninstalled - Euphemism for being fired. For example: "I can't take another week off. I might come back and find I've been uninstalled."

World Wide Wait - The real meaning of WWW. For example: "I've been sitting around on the World Wide Wait all day just waiting for that e-mail to arrive."

Xerox Subsidy - Euphemism for swiping free photocopies from one’s workplace. For example: The management has made it very clear that they are monitoring any Xerox Subsidy that's going on.

For those of you who haven't been following my series on office slang that I think should to be incorporated into everyday vocabulary, welcome. For those of you who have been tuning in, welcome back.

The word of today is "Mouse Potato," which describes our culture's transcendence from TV addicts to internet addicts. For example: "I spent all of Sunday sitting at my desk being a Mouse Potato, so I really need to go to the gym and get out in the world today."

Keyboard Plaque - The nasty buildup of dirt, food particles and dust found on some people’s computer keyboards. "I really need to find the can of dry air because I've got a terrible case of Keyboard Plaque."

Mouse Potato - The online generation’s answer to the couch potato. "I spent all of Sunday sitting at my desk being a Mouse Potato, so I really need to go to the gym and get out in the world today."

Ohnosecond - That tiny fraction of time during which you realize you’ve just made a terrible error. "It only took an Ohnosecond for me to notice I'd left a piece of tinfoil in the microwave."

Open-Collar Workers - People who work at home or telecommute. "Sometimes I wish I was an Open-Collar Worker so I could wear PJs and no one would know!"

Percussive Maintenance - The art of whacking the heck out of an electronic device to get it to work again. "Sometimes when the printer doesn't work I perform a little percussive maintenance on it and it gets right into shape."

Plug-and-Play - A new hire who doesn’t require training. “That new girl is great and so self motivated. She's completely plug-and-play.”

Prairie Dogging - When something loud happens in a cube farm, causing heads to pop up over the walls trying to see what’s going on. "Marsha is all about Prairie Dogging. Every time Brady performs his goofy stunts she starts popping up to try and get in on the action."

If you really want to be geek chic, you have to be on top of all the latest office slang. Keeping up on your jargon will allow you to No. 1, proclaim yourself to be the resident alpha geek in the office with little complaint. No. 2, scare away any of your 404 coworkers. No. 3, keep everyone in your cubicle farm on their toes. We've already learned the A-C Office Slang terms you should know so it's time to extend our vocabulary so we can all get our geek on.

Dorito Syndrome - The feeling of emptiness and dissatisfaction triggered by addictive substances that lack nutritional content. “Baby, I suffered from Dorito Syndrome all day. Can we go have dinner somewhere healthy?”

Egosurfing - Scanning the internet, databases, etc., for one’s own name. "I did some serious egosurfing today and found all these old articles I wrote in college. Hilarious!"

Elvis Year - The peak year of popularity as in “2007 was totally the iPhone's Elvis Year.”

Glazing - Corporate-speak for sleeping with your eyes open; a popular pastime at conferences and early-morning meetings. “I really need to go get a chai. I found myself glazing through the entire meeting.”

Idea Hamsters - People whose idea generators are always running. "I can't come up with anything for our pitch meeting. Let's call a pre-meeting with Jane. She's a total Idea Hamster."

New Office Slang: A-C

If you've ever had a conversation with a tragically hip person and walked away wondering what the heck half the things they said mean, you understand how frustrating it is not knowing the coolest slang and lingo. It makes you feel old, unworldly, and out of the loop. How can you stay on top of your game? I am a fan of initiating jargon into conversations and using it until the people around me catch up. If you're interested in gaining some new office slang consider using geeky computer terms in casual conversation.

For example if you meet a cute associate at an office function and your co-worker asks if you are going to call them you can always be elusive and say you are going to "bookmark" that person for later. Not everyone wants to commit to speed dial after one meet and greet, right?

Here are a few more words to test out:

404 - Someone who is clueless. From the Web error message, “404 Not Found,” which means the document requested couldn’t be located. “Don’t bother asking Britney. She’s totally 404 and can't help it.”

Alpha Geek - The most knowledgeable, technically proficient person in an office or work group. “I dunno, ask geeksugar. She's the alpha geek around here.”

Blamestorming - A group discussion of why a deadline was missed or a project failed and who was responsible. "I don't want to Blamestorm or anything, but can we talk about what Fergie's stylist should have been thinking."

Chip Jewelry - Old computers destined to be scrapped or turned into decoration. “That piece of junk would function better as a statue."

Chips and Salsa - Chips = hardware, salsa = software. “First we gotta figure out if the problem’s in your chips or your salsa.”

Cube Farm - An office filled with cubicles. "I have to get out of this Cube Farm and take a walk around the block."

How To Celebrate 'Embrace Your Geekiness Day'

Little known fact, today is national Embrace Your Geekiness Day. That's right people, it's one day of the year we geeks are told to embrace all the character traits that make us so special. I'm talking about those gadget-loving, internet-sleuthing, all knowing qualities. Here is my list of things you must do today in honor of the holiday.

Egosurf: In case you don't know, egosurfing is the act of searching for one's own name, or online nickname, using any search engine. This helps you keep track of your online identity and will undoubtedly produce a couple of laughs. Look for images, news articles and whatever web junk you can find.
Clean Your Inbox: It's not fun, but cleansing improves everyone's mood. Archive all the good stuff and dump the junk.
Harry Potter: If you haven't seen Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix you better direct your Nimbus 2000 to the theater. Don't forget to take some Butterbeer with you. (If you're over 21 try the cold recipe!)
