Website of the Day: Now Do This

Done and done is one of my favorite - and overused - lines. So when I came across Now Do This, a to-do list application website, I couldn't help but give it a whirl. So maybe you can't see your entire to-do list like with Remember the Milk or sticky notes on your iGoogle page, but it is plain and simple. Just go to the website, enter your tasks and to-do items in order of priority, hit save, and it'll show you the first one on your list. Click done when a task is completed and it'll move on to the next one, just like that. Done and done.

First of all, join the Website of the Day group.
Click the pink "Share" menu on the top left side of the page.

Fill in the “Body” with a link to your favorite website and the reasons why you love it.

Choose the audience for your story to “Website of the Day” in the drop-down menu
Add keyword(s) (for example mine for this photo was "Website of the Day").
Change channel to “Technology and Gadgets.”
Fill in tag field with relevant tags.
Click “I’m done” to submit content.

Website of the Day: It Made My Day

Sometimes, you just need a little digital pick-me-up, and today I'm here to bring you exactly that. Today's installment of Website of the Day is not only endlessly entertaining but may even give you a warm, fuzzy feeling inside. It Made My Day is a site where people can submit great moments they come across during their otherwise boring days. For example, my favorite:

Do You Send More Texts Now Than You Used to?

According to data recently released by a communications study group, the number of text messages sent and received in the US has grown 80 percent in the last year. A spokesman for the group that conducted the study cites unlimited text plans (instead of traditional pay-per-message plans) and early-adopting teens who have continued their texting practices as they've gotten older.

And, of course, there's the now infamous story of a teenage girl from Ohio who sends over 15,000 texts a month!

Now is the perfect time for me to introduce you to Listography - it's going to become so helpful when you're shopping for holiday gifts. The question "What do you want for Christmas?" is so five years ago when you have a network of family on Listography, since it lets you create your own wish lists and share with your friends online. No more tracking down that toy robot for your cousin Nate; since he's got an online list, he can share what he wants, and where to buy it.

But even after the holidays, Listography can be helpful when planning vacations, moves, or tackling that bucket list, which you can access from anywhere online.

Blake Lively Gets Some One-on-One Help at the Apple Store

Celebs like Kristen Stewart and Paris Hilton like to hit up the Apple store for all of their tech needs, but which famous females have been caught asking for some Apple assistance in the pristine retail store?

Well we've already spotted Rachel McAdams and Elle Macpherson utilizing the Apple stores' staff and services and now we can add the star of Gossip Girl - Blake Lively - to the list! This pic was taken last Saturday when Blake attended the grand opening of Apple's Upper West Side store. Maybe she was doing some early holiday shopping?

GelaSkins Brings Tim Burton to Your iPhones, Laptops

Even if you didn't get to party with Tim Burton himself on Tuesday night for the unveiling of his career-spanning collection of art in NYC, you can still go check out the goods at the MoMA, and now can don your iPhone or laptop in his work as well. GelaSkins is known for their huge selection of artist-inspired gadget skins, and have plucked the artwork right out of Burton's "The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy and Other Stories" and handed it to us in a collection called Tragic Toys for Girls and Boys.

The iPhone skins will set you back $15, and the Laptop skins start at $30, but seems like a deal if you're a Burton fangirl, or just adore his creepy-cute art, like I do.

Website of the Day: More Cloth

I'm a total DIY freak, and appreciate websites that help me reach my crafting goals. Take my last DIY project: the charging station I made from an Ikea shelving unit. Now if I wanted to take that a step further, I could add some decorative fabric to the back panels and really make the shelf pop. But how do I find the right fabric? I could browse racks of fabric at my local craft store, or I could do it the easy way (without leaving the warmth of my computer) and hit up More Cloth.

This site works seamlessly with Etsy to lead you to your perfect fabric. First it offers up a ton of color schemes to choose from (like in the photo to the right), and then directs you to the exact fabric patterns that contain those colors. Finally, More Cloth shoots you over to the Etsy page where you can add your chosen fabric to your cart, and prep your craft room accordingly - just sit back and wait for your fabric to arrive!

Website of the Day: Duffel

There are a ton of travel planning sites, but I just found my new favorite. Duffel (find the site at duffelup) calls itself "a trip-planning tool for people who are not planning any trips," but it's pretty handy for actual trip planning, too.

Sign into the site to create trips - real or imagined - to any place in the world. Then add the Duffel bookmarking tool to your browser's bookmarks. When you visit sites of interest for your trip - hotels, tours, restaurant listings, or even just a random sentence or two about something cool to do in the area - click the bookmark to save it to your Duffel. You can set saved trip information to public or private, or opt to share them with just a few people, like family or travel partners.

There are more great features on the site, too, from the easy to use drag and drop interface to the incorporation of Google maps to a printable itinerary view condensing all of your saved information into a printable list. Duffel also offers suggestions to popular destinations like New York City or Las Vegas.

I've been having a blast creating and adding to a few "dream" trips I'd like to take . . . now the only problem is figuring out where to go first.

Tech Dating 101: He CC'd Me on an Email to His Mom

A friend of mine needs some advice: last week, her brand-new boyfriend (we're taking days here, not even weeks) wrote an email list of gifts he wanted for Christmas, sent it to his mom, and CC'd my friend. To be fair, my friend did ask him to send her his Christmas wish list, but she never expected him to send the same list to his mother at the same time.

She's a little freaked out because she thinks this is a sign of him moving too quickly. On the flip side, he is very close to his mother, and maybe he just thought he'd kill two birds with one stone by sending one email instead of two. Then again, now his mom has my friend's email address. . .even though the two are weeks away from actually meeting face-to-face. So of course my friend asks me, "What do I do? Do I reply to both of them? Do I write him back at all?"

I must admit, giving her advice on this problem kind of stumped me. I'm torn between a couple of responses; to see what they are (and help me out!), read more

Potential advice A: Reply all with a short and sweet "Thanks for the heads up!" and let it go. This requires giving the guy the benefit of the doubt, which I'm not quite sure is the right move here, but I think it could be the way to go. See if his mom responds. Chances are, she knows her son well enough to know his intentions. Maybe he's even done it before. The only caveat: if she responds to you, you're stuck. You can't ignore an email from mom, which means being prepared for any kind of wacky proposal, from her asking what gift you're planning on buying him to suggesting going halfsies on something together.

Potential advice B: Don't respond to the email. Address it with him in person as soon as possible. Tell him it made you uncomfortable, and tell him why it made you uncomfortable. You'll have to tread delicately since I'm guessing he doesn't realize what a big deal this is to you. Explain that even though it might have been a to-the-point email, it makes you uncomfortable to be included on the same thread as his mother.

Potential advice C: Run. Fast. In the other direction.

Has Google Latitude Gone Too Far?

I have mixed feelings about location-based services like Google Latitude, which pinpoints and shares your location in real time, or Foursquare, the application allowing you to "check in" and share your location with friends. Granted, there are privacy settings, but the whole tracking-in-real-time thing creeps me out a bit.

Now it seems Latitude got a little bit creepier. According to a Google blog post, your location history will now be saved to access it later. Useful for remembering where you were last weekend, or for finding that cool restaurant whose name you forgot to jot down; scary for anyone worried about potential stalkers.

I'm not a big user of these services, so I can't decide how I feel about the new feature. What do you think? Is Latitude saving too much information, or is it just another enhancement to their service?
