Emoticon Magnets: Love It or Leave It?

I know I've mentioned my avoid-unless-necessary feelings on emoticons several times, not to mention calling a guy out over his emoticon use (to which most of you responded my friend should chill out).

You loved this emoticon shower curtain; do you feel the same way about these emoticon magnets ($15)? They're 2.5 inches in diameter, so they'll definitely make a statement on the fridge. What do you think?

What's Going on Here? A Lesson in Magnetics

So the other day PetSugar was explaining to me how she lost the top to her earbud and was peeved because she couldn't listen to her tunes at work, when suddenly something happened - her earbuds picked up a paper clip from her desk! Was it due to Mercury being in retrograde? Was it because our office is haunted and the ghost was messing with us and our electronics? Or was there some other reasonable explanation?

I dove into the subject, and it didn't take me long to find the answer. To see what it is, just read more.

Since I am not too versed on the inner workings of sound transmission, I wasn't aware that there are magnets inside all headphones! Magnets help the wire coil inside all headphones stay balanced and produce sound waves, which in turn, gives you your music!

So I guess the next logical question would be, "Is this harming my brain?" From what I can tell, no. In fact, magnets have been used for centuries to help relieve pain, circulatory problems, and even baldness. So next time you find your earbuds picking up a paper clip from your desk, you'll know why!

So I'm obviously all about DIY, but this crafty item may be a little too much for me to handle. The Magnetic Pixel Kit ($31) lets you create a pixelated picture anywhere you can stick a magnet. Coming with 1,400 square magnets, you can stick Superman on your fridge or Iron Man on your file cabinet. It's all up to you.

Although it doesn't come with patterns, the kit does give you some tips on how to make these creations a little easier, like printing out a pixelated pic from your computer to go by. Overwhelming? Probably. Fun? Definitely.

I like to keep my BlackBerry and iPhone near me when I'm driving, but they are constantly sliding off the passenger seat, my lap or the dashboard as I drive and subsequently creating a real driving nightmare. I've already ordered my USB Mixed Tape Set, so I might as well continue the trend and post these up on my fridge! These mini cassette magnets are wicked cool and functional to boot.

Brought to you by another genius Etsy user, the magnets come in at a reasonable $8 a pop, and bonus - you can write your own titles on them! I think "Geek's Mix" is kinda lame (and not all that creative), so I'll have to come up with something funky and fresh in its place. I'm really loving how old stuff is coming back and being reused in new and inventive ways. I'm sure Mother Earth is smiling on us right now.

Whether you use emoticons or not (personal preference, completely), these hand-embroidered Emoticon Magnets ($15) will make you crack a smile.

If you have been on the Internet in the past two years, then you know the LOLCats of I Can Has Cheezburger, and if you have any kind of sense of humor at all, you love them. So how amazing are these LOLMagnetz from ThinkGeek?

Because I think it's an art form (trust me, not just anyone can do it), what better way to train than to have the words in magnet form, for your rearranging pleasure? I'm ordering a few sets, and look for the communication in my household to get reeeeally interesting in the near future. KTHXBai!
