The Lonelygirl15 Era Draws To A Close

After a long-winded YouTube run, Jessica Lee Rose, who plays the main character Bree in the popular Lonelygirl15 videos, has decided to move on to bigger and better things. The Sydney Morning Herald has reported that after more than a year and 260 episodes, 16-year old Bree was killed off by the religious cult that had chased her for the life-giving qualities of her rare blood type. This video marked the end of season one which was played out in 12 videos posted over a 12-hour period exclusively on MySpaceTV and the LonelyGirl15 website. Although Bree will no longer be a part of the show, the next season will be starting next week with the same title and remaining characters. You can check out the new episodes by visiting her myspace channel. And as for the famous Ms. Rose? She is developing a new web comedy that should be out by the end of this year and is pursuing more Hollywood acting gigs with co-stars like Lindsay Lohan. Wanna see the last few minutes of Bree's YouTube life? Just read more

Webby Awards Draw Web And Hollywood Celebrities

Rose, who is known to the world as YouTube phenomenon Lonelygirl15, will make her major film debut in the upcoming "I Know Who Killed Me" flick with Lindsay Lohan. I am pleased to say Rose already has her geek chic red carpet look down. I didn't make it to the ceremony - although geeksugar was an honoree! - but FabSugar rocked the house by paying homage to Chanel in her acceptance speech.

David Bowie accepted the Webby Lifetime Achievement Award and my faves Mike Diamond, Adam Yauch and Adam Horovitz of The Beastie Boys made a rare appearance.

Makers of Lonelygirl15 Announce Spinoff

The creators of Lonelygirl15 have teamed up with Bebo to bring you a new UK spinoff series called- Lonelygirl15 presents...KateModern. This new show will debut in July with several weekly episodes available exclusively to Bebo users in the UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand.

According to 901 am, this new internet drama "will expand from the original storyline to that of a teenage university student in London and her struggle to balance her complex social life with the dark forces that shadow her." Basically the show will have similar elements from LL15 and give fans the opportunity to become very involved- by posting comments, giving show feedback and uploading their own videos to characters' profile pages.

Yay to this. Maybe it's just me, but I am totally getting sick of the whole Lonelygirl thing. Hopefully this show can steal some of its exhausted thunder. Hmm, I wonder if it will have a new and improved version of Daniel the Beast in its plotline.

Lonelygirl15 Co-Stars With Lohan in I Know Who Killed Me

The queen of YouTube Lonelygirl15 is now riding the waves of stardom by landing big movie deals. Jessica Rose (aka LG15) scored a small part alongside Miss Lindsay Lohan in the movie I Know Who Killed Me, a movie about a young woman who is rescued after being abducted and tortured by a serial killer.

Here's what Jessica had to say on her myspace page about the movie:

"I filmed my first scenes not long ago and was introduced to Lindsay, and from what I saw she is not how the press portrays her. In my opinion she seemed very sweet and funny and absolutely beautiful! Anyway, I am also going to be starring in the movie The Perfect Sport and I believe it'll be out by the end of 07 but thats not a promise!"

Seems like her YouTube stint as being a quirky, innocent school girl has opened some hollywood doors. I'm sure we'll be seeing alot more of her in the future.

Flynet

Lonelygirl15 Tops Forbes Web Celeb 25 List

It was all a hoax! Were you one of the YouTuber's that got sucked into the whole lonelygirl15 era? Makes sense that lonelygirl15 aka Bree, aka Jessica Rose, was chosen as Forbes No.1 Web Celeb. Jessica played sixteen year old Bree, a home-schooled and quirky girl who became the queen of YouTube in just a few short months. Fans eventually caught on and Bree was outed as nineteen year old New Zealand-born actress Jessica Rose. Fake or not, lonelygirl15 has became a household name as her fame and fortune continues to rise. Therefore, it's fittingly suitable that Jessica Rose was chosen as Forbes No.1 Web Celeb!
This Week On Geeksugar - We Explore Hotel Tomo!

We headed over to San Francisco's new video game hotel to see what the buzz is all about. Check out our Hotel Tomo video

Think you know everything there is to know about the new iMacs? Take our quiz!

After a long-winded YouTube run, Jessica Lee Rose, who plays the main character Bree in the popular Lonelygirl15 videos, has decided to move on to bigger and better things. I weep a little. The Lonelygirl15 Era Draws To A Close

Not every guy (or girl) is chic enough to pull off the geek tie, but for those who are, there seem to be endless fashion choices. From video game themes, Harry Potter prints, math symbols, retro computer graphics, url jokes, and pixelated images, there really is no end to the geekery. Geek Ties: Finish Off Your Outfit With Geekery

If "can you hear me now?" is part of your everyday vocab, you might want to check out Signal Map, a user-generated cell phone signal map that notes the strength of major service providers on a map. Signal Map Compares Cell Providers In Your Area

If you're a hardcore Nintendo follower you have probably already feasted your eyes on the DS Cell Phone Charm, but for the rest of you here's a geeky - albeit girly - treat. Totally Geeky or Geek Chic?
Quarterlife . . . May Not Have a Life

Look, I'm great at suspending my disbelief for TV shows - I am an avid Lost viewer, after all. But the portrayal of the Internet and blogging in new show Quarterlife is just too much.

I was so excited when I heard that this show (which I'd never watched on MySpaceTV before) would feature the main character as a blogger - a lot of people have personal blogs nowadays, and I was hoping the show could explore the impact of a female blogger who blogs about her friends and personal life. Sadly, the show opens with the terrible line "Why do we blog? We blog to exist." Really?! What does that even mean? Dylan Krieger - the main character and blogger - has a MacBook. Our similarities end there.

For what I think about Dylan and the hilarious Internet portrayal, read more.

Dylan is a self-absorbed, insecure voyeur who watched one too many episodes of My So-Called Life as a teenager and now suffers from tortured artist syndrome. Not a starving artist, of course, because Dylan is obviously a college grad from a nice, rich suburb. Her problems are as annoying as she is: She's upset that, as a recent graduate who's landed an amazing job as an editorial associate at a magazine, one of the ideas she spouted off in a (very common) moment of self-righteousness has been stolen by another employee. Dylan also suffers from "I'm a writer" syndrome (you know, where she can't stop saying it aloud so everyone knows how much better than them she is) and the illness in which one is convinced other people are not worthwhile unless they're artists.

Now, let's discuss the blogging. Dylan uses a MySpace-like profile on the not-so-fictional Quarterlife social network (which they dismiss as being "in beta," like that matters anymore). From her profile, she takes a video of herself and makes a video blog. I hate the word "vlog," but was anyone else annoyed that they never brought the term up? It also killed me when they said things like, "Are you upset that I blogged you?" At one point, one character says "You have my face all over the frickin' net!" Since when is it called the 'net? Since that Sandra Bullock movie came out?

And what about this weird importance they seem to place on blogging? All of Dylan's friends are very impressed that she has a blog on a social network site at a time when everyone and their mother has a personal blog. They are also very upset that she's saying personal things about them on her "blog" - what, do they think she's getting picked up on digg?

This show has tons of cred - as far as TV goes, Buzz reported that these are the producers of My So-Called Life (and the writing team includes Devon Gummersall, aka Brian Krakow), and as far as geekery goes (Macs and Final Cut Pro, oh my!), this show should have been a shoe-in to my TiVo schedule. Bitsie Tulloch, who plays Dylan, was even a cast member on Internet sensation lonelygirl15!

I'm really disappointed with this first episode, but I'm no quitter. I also remember the terrible pilots of some of my other favorite shows, so I'll give this a chance to find itself. And hopefully the writers will find themselves in front of a browser in 2008, figuring out "the 'net" for today's audience.
