I must ask Fab; is leopard print in right now, or is it out? Oh well, it seems to come back in often enough to justify this $11 Leopard Print iPhone 3G Case!

It's a sleeve, which I like so I can hold (and show off) my iPhone's sleek design, and that print - I'm only going to use it when I need to feel bold and a little bit Miami.

Geek Tip: Get Wikipedia Access From Mac's Dictionary Application!

Say what you will about Wikipedia, but it's become an utter must-have site. Whether I'm at home or at work, if I'm at my computer, I visit Wikipedia a few times a day, at least, to look up a person, thing, whatever. Now, Apple has made it more convenient to get to - you can access it from the Dictionary application!

If you have Leopard in OS X, you'll notice that there's now a Wikipedia tab. It gets even faster - access the Dictionary from Spotlight, or, in an email or other text document, Control click or right click on the word and select "Look Up in Dictionary." Wiki away!

Geek Tip: Work Together With Screen Sharing

The first time I used iChat's Screen Sharing feature was to help my mom figure out how to attach a photo in an email. Apparently, this whole technology thing still keeps my parents entertained, 'cause they told all of their friends what went down the next day. Since then, I've used screen share to collaborate on stories, photos, and of course, help my parents figure out how to spin up their www, aka, check their emails.

A sweet little feature from OS X Leopard, is screen-sharing capabilities, which are just a click away in your system preferences (under sharing). They'll allow you and the other user to share a screen, while letting you both participate. In the past, if someone "shared" your screen, you wouldn't be able to click around on your own. But Screen Sharing not only lets you iChat, but share ideas at the same time.

It comes in pretty handy on those times when you and a co-worker need to flesh out a design, approve photos, or even troubleshoot, but aren't in the same office. I know I get good use out of it with my family alone! Just call me Geek, IT Specialist!

iPhone and Leopard Delayed? Leaked E-mail Incites Suspicion

Just as the weekly countdown to the release of the iPhone was getting closer some major drama has popped up indicating the iPhone may not be released in June as expected.

Engadget reported that they had "it on authority that as of today, the iPhone launch is being pushed back from June to... October (!), and Leopard is again seeing a delay, this time being pushed all the way back to January." Predictably, as news of the possible delay hit, Apple's stock took a nose dive.

Engadget confirmed the news with what they contend was a valid e-mail that was sent to Apple employees, but then received word from an Apple PR person that the news was false (or rather the e-mail was "incorrect"), and the iPhone and Leopard are still on track for their scheduled dates.

Apple has not posted any news on their press site as of yet, so the jury is still out. And to think, two months ago we were hearing we would see the iPhone sooner than expected. Maybe the Helio Ocean will beat out the iPhone after all.

WWDC: Apple Announces New Technologies For Snow Leopard

Here we are at WWDC, in the midst of hot Apple news, and now we're onto the nitty gritty: the technology itself.

Bertrand Serlet has the honor of introducing Snow Leopard's new technologies, which revolve around taking advantage of the power of your processor. They include:

64-bit Mode: Using 64-bit mode takes advantage of the mass of memory, hitting a limit only at 16 billion gigs rather than four; this means the processor can move much faster in 64-bit mode, and all of the major applications will run in 64-bit mode. Thus, twice as fast!
Grand Central Dispatch: GCD will control the threads of multicore processors. Basically, when you're running an application, the threads that are produced stay up when the same app is idle; GCD redirects those threads so that they're not being used up when an application is idle. Hence, another way to make Snow Leopard faster!
OpenCL: OpenCL (the "C" stands for computing) utilizes the raw power of graphics cards beyond just graphics; the best part of OpenCL is that it will actually have an open standard and many top tech companies are already participating.

Leopard Print DS Lite Skin: Love It or Leave It?

All this time I've been looking for the perfect Nintendo DS Lite case, but I hadn't even considered a skin! Leopard's ins and outs as a trend seems to have ceased and cemented it as a classic, so I could see throwing this Leopard Print Skin by DecalGirl on my DS Lite, especially since it's such a small gadget, and while cute, the DS alone is a kind of a plain blank canvas. It's only $14 and a totally animal-friendly way to sport leopard skin. What do you say, love it or leave it?

WWDC Wrap Up: Near Final Mac OS X Leopard

Turns out that controversial leaked e-mail from an Apple employee was partially correct. While the iPhone will be released June 29, yesterday Apple unveiled a near final version of Mac OS X Leopard that won't be scheduled to ship until October. The announcement was made by Steve Jobs himself at the World Wide Developers Conference in my homebase of San Francisco. It will be the sixth major release of the operating system.

According to Apple, Leopard introduces more than 300 new features, including a new Desktop and Dock with Stacks, an intuitive new way to organize files; an updated Finder featuring Cover Flow and a new way to easily browse and share files between multiple Macs; Quick Look, a new way to rapidly preview most files without opening an application; Time Machine, a new way to easily and automatically back up and restore lost files or a complete Mac; Spaces, a new feature to create groups of applications and instantly switch between them; and enhanced iChat and Mail applications, which easily allows users to communicate even more creatively. By creatively, they mean iChatters will be able to use fun holograph effects.
