I talk a lot of game about keeping your cell phones and MP3 players safe and covered, but guess what — I don't always take my own advice. For example, my iPod is not covered most of the time, and I sometimes let my iPhone run naked in my bag. Bad news, I know.

I love my gadgets, but what happens when your cell phone or iPod needs to be juiced up and you're nowhere near a power supply and you managed to forget your iPod cord at home? Thanks to solar powered gizmos, you've always got a back up — well that is, if you have some sunlight to work with!
Novothink has created this hybrid solar iPod Touch charger case called the Surge (patent still pending), but unlike concept designs, this handy accessory will be available later this month for $70.

Hold onto your hats, and try to think of complaints you've had about the iPhone in the past, because Apple has done their darnedest to correct all of them. Gizmodo's live coverage in Cupertino, CA, this morning revealed the features of the iPhone's 3.0 OS update, which include:
- Copy/Paste: Finally! You'll be able to double-tap text to get the option of cutting, copying, and pasting (which also applies to images).
- Multimedia messaging (MMS): You'll be able to text and receive texts with images and sound (also, finally).
- Landscape Messaging: You can use the keyboard in landscape mode for the eMail and Notes apps.
- Spotlight: One of my favorite features of Macs, the iPhone will have Spotlight for you to search all the information stored on your iPhone.
To hear about other new features, and to find out when 3.0 will be released, just read more

I can't help but gravitate toward vintage gadgets (I am the founding member of the Vintage Geek group, you know), so mash-ups of old and new stuff is something I'm totally into.
This particular skin from Gelaskin ($15) tugged at my heartstrings, mostly because it reminded me of my first boombox that I carried around with me to sleepovers, my backyard, and even a few times to school (my teachers were not pleased with that last location).
I'm kinda digging this skin for my iPhone, but I'm not sure I could handle it taking up permanent residence there.

Yesterday, I got an early look at the newest games slated to hit the iPod Touch and iPhone this Fall and Winter. I was pretty impressed with the graphics and low learning curve it took just to pick up and play these newest games, but to be honest, they're going to have to compete with Spore Origins for my coveted iPhone play time! New titles include an awesome mobile version of Need for Speed, which looked like a blast to play, as well as a cute platformer called Rolando that has your character rolling along a course, which was totally reminiscent of the super-cute PSP game I loved called LocoRoco.
