Wii Knee to Be the New Hot Video Game Injury

It's not going to be all eggnog and booze-related damage done this Christmas, if you plan on playing the Wii with your family over the holidays. Doctors have coined a new term for Wii-related injuries, "Wii Knee."

The doctors say these Wii-caused aches and pains (which, despite the name, can affect any body part) occurbecause certain Wii games (like the classic, Wii Sports) encourage people to mimic playing sports. Some people may not be used to exercise, or there may be older folks who try to keep up with their kids.

Either way, it's a bummer to be hurt by playing video games - which some of you can attest to. As for those who are unused to exercise, but don't want to miss out on the fun: Might I interest you in the Wii Fit?

Have You Been Injured by Your Gadgets?

I hope you're not eating right now: A Zune owner is suing Microsoft for injuries he sustained from using his mp3 player, saying that the headphones shocked him and now he experiences bleeding and "fluid leakage" from the ears (!!!). When I stopped gagging and shuddering, I remembered other infamous iPod and cell phone-related injuries. For instance, I know to avoid electrical storms, because of the Colorado kid who was struck by lightning while wearing his iPod and ended up with damaged hearing and burns from the headphone cords.
Aside from dropping an iPod (a 2nd-generation 30GB) on my toe, I have never suffered a gadget-related injury. What about you guys? Tell me your geek pain stories!

Have You Ever Suffered an Extended Internet/Cable Outage?

Dear friends and readers, take pity on me. I have no Internet or cable at my house right now. Both services come from Comcast, and now I'm starting to see where that bundle deal was not such a great idea after all. The modem's probably broken, they say, and the only solution is to send someone out to our house. The catch? They can't come until tomorrow. That happened Monday (without even an apology for the outage, which would have been nice).

Since then, we've been living on a steady diet of season one Lost DVDs and video games (to add insult to injury, Little Big Planet keeps reminding me how fun online play is).

Sure, I should probably be using this forced disconnect time to read some books, maybe go on some long, thoughtful walks, but let's be real: I just want my Internet back (I'm whimpering). And cable and TiVo and Boxxee.

What I really learned this week is how dependent I am on these things - and that I really hate forced outages. Have you ever had to live a few days without cable, Internet, or both, against your will?

Make a Boo Boo Cool With Pacman Bandages

There's just 15 strips in three different patterns, but you get to keep the tin, and come on, no one really grows out of cool, printed bandages.

After a four-week journey, which included a leg injury, a geek-inspired performance and some worm break-dancing moves, our favorite Dancing With the Stars competitor, Steve Wozniak, was eliminated last night. With a double elimination, which also included a farewell to Holly Madison, the Woz managed to keep smiling and left with some positive parting words. We are so proud of you Steve!

DWTS Week Three: The Woz Gets Sexy and Does the Worm!

Last week, Dancing With the Stars participant Steve Wozniak warmed our hearts by giving 100 percent to his geeky quickstep routine, despite his injury. And this week, he was not only dealing with a fractured foot, but a pulled hamstring as well, and yet he still managed to pull out all of the stops including some serious hip shaking, fancy footwork and he did the worm dance! The judges were a little cruel with their 10 out of 30 score, but in my books, the Woz deserves a 30 out of 30 for his cheery disposition, effort, and for representing geeks in style!

Breaking News - The Woz Fractures Leg in DWTS Practice!

Oh no! Our favorite Dancing With the Stars contestant has injured his leg! Steve Wozniak was spotted yesterday wearing a removable cast after he fractured his leg during practice.

We're happy to hear that despite his injury, he has vowed to continue and says that his next dance will be "wild and fast and all-over crazy and fun, just like the first one."

Ahh, such a Woz thing to say! We're so happy that the loveable Woz has decided to continue on with his dancing journey and after last week's entertaining performance, we can't wait to see what him and Karina are cooking up for Monday's show.

Hope your leg makes a speedy recovery, Steve!

Geek Tip: Use Workrave to Relieve Computer-Related Aches

Using a computer has obvious personal and professional benefits, but there are some physical issues that arise when you sit in front of a computer (or tote one home - save your back!). You can do basic exercises to avoid carpal tunnel, but you can use technology to prevent injuries caused by technology: Workrave!

Workrave is a free download (for Linux and Windows) that provides all kinds of handy tools to ensure that you don't hurt your eyes, back, wrists, or neck while you're working (read: perusing Sugar sites). My favorites are the timers for breaks it prompts you to take - and one break even walks you through simple exercises.

You can also set a daily limit, so that it will pop up and remind you that you're at your limit and should maybe get up and out, lest you suffer from one of those pesky Internet addictions.

Guy Loses Playstation 3, Cops Replace It With an Xbox 360

What if you bought a refurbished gadget, only to be suspected of theft? And, then to add insult to injury were cleared but had the gadget replaced with a rival product?

That's what happened to a man in North Carolina, Dustin Waller, who bought a refurbished Playstation 3, which had been reported stolen, unbeknownst to him. The culprit is assumed to be the guy who sold the PS3 to the store where Waller got it, so when Waller signed on to the PS3, detectives tracked his IP address, came knocking, and hauled off the PS3.

When Waller was cleared, he went to get a refund, but was denied since it was against store policy. The store ended up replacing him with - get this - a Microsoft Xbox 360! I mean, when I buy a new console, I've put a lot of thought into the one I want. This would be like losing your iPhone and having it replaced with a BlackBerry, losing a MacBook Pro and getting a Sony Vaio. . . and so on, and so forth.

More interestingly, Waller thinks that the decision to give him back a 360 instead of a PS3 was made by the cops involved - so what do you think: were the cops geeks with a sense of humor, or just clueless about the differences between the consoles?

Chuck's Zachary Levi: Aggressively Geeky

I thought I knew how geeky Zachary Levi was, what with stories of Wii injuries and video game devotion, but it turns out that there is so much more tech dorkiness under the surface. Get ready to drool, geek lovers.

BuzzSugar was at the TCAs for deets on the new season of Chuck and got a little more geekery than she bargained for.

Exhibit A: Zachary whipped out his spankin' new iPhone and pulled up the Light Saber app to show his admirers the whoosh sound.
Exhibit B: He then showed everyone his iPhone wallpaper: the Nerd Herd logo from Chuck.
Exhibit C: He confirmed that he is, in fact, still a Mac.
