Urban Performer Unit: Love It or Leave It?

I finally got my hands on the UrbanTool Urban Performer Unit that I've had my eye on yesterday at Macworld, and although it didn't disappoint -coming with a secure place to store my phone, an adapter so I can play my tunes as I'm on the move, a compartment for a wallet, lush leather, Swarovski crystals - it did come with sticker shock: $500! This clutch is great, but way out of my price range. After getting an in-person look, I'm still in love - it even has iPod controls on the outside so I don't have to open the clutch to switch tunes! - however, it's just not meant to be. What do you think about it?

Old-Fashioned Cases For High-Tech Gadgets

I spotted (and loved) Thomas Paul's typewriter laptop case over the Summer, but just recently found even more retro-inspired cases. The Simpler Times Old-Fashioned Cases ($25 each) are made for a cell phone, digital camera, and MP3 player and feature super-retro versions of the modern-day gadgets they're meant to hold.

Given my love for vintage geekery, I'm definitely a fan of these cute cases. I can't decide which one I want first!

Dress Your iPhone Like a Monster For Halloween

I love dressing my iPhone for the season with a cute themed case - and this one is definitely the cutest I've seen in a while! Just in time for Halloween, the Monster iPhone Cover ($35) comes in two fuzzy colors: red and black. The case closes with velcro and has a hole for headphones.

How cute are the big googly eyes and vinyl fangs? The tough part isfiguring out which festive Halloween-themed case to use!

Fittingly Green: Armpocket For the iPhone

Since I recently got an iPhone, I was looking for a hands-free case to carry it in while I work out. When I found out this Sport 20 made by Armpocket ($30) was eco-friendly, made of bamboo and 100 percent recycled PET fabric (which is made from discarded plastic water bottles), I had to try it. This case instantly became my new favorite fitness accessory.

The see-through screen on the front of the case allows you to control the touch screen without having to take the iPhone out of the case. So convenient. The strap is padded so it's comfy and resists slipping, and the Velcro ensures a snug fit. Even when I run, it doesn't shake around. The best feature, though, is that not only does it have a pocket for your iPod or iPhone, but there's another separate pocket behind that - perfect for holding tissues, money, keys, your phone, and a snack. There's a hole on the bottom for headphones, but I just use the speaker on the iPhone. Since the case sits on my upper arm, I can hear my tunes, while still staying aware of noises around me. It makes me feel very safe, especially when trail running. Cases are available in threes sizes: Aero 10 ($23), Sport 20 ($30), and Xtreme 30 ($36). It's affordable, practical, and green. Love it.

Geek Tip: Use a Soft Sunglasses Case as an iPhone/iPod Case

I'm all for emergency measures to keep your gadgets protected, like using a pillowcase as a sub for a laptop sleeve.

This tip for smaller gadgets came to me while I was rummaging through my junk drawer - you can use a soft sunglasses case, the kind that's made out of that thick, soft spongy material (not unlike a mouse pad) and slide your iPhone, iPod, (or if it's slim enough, camera) inside. And it's much better than a sock!

It's thick enough to protect your gadget from bumps and dents, and if you're like me, you've somehow accumulated these through the years (often, you get them for free).

Also, if you find the case is too long, just cut it down to reach your gadget and its ports more easily. Just like MacGyver.

Jonathan Adler Gadget Cases Make Needlepoint Modern

I'm used to seeing designer Jonathan Adler's work on CasaSugar, but I was rewarded today when I browsed around his mod website to find accessories for the gadget queen in me. This Cell Phone Cozy and MP3 Case are $48 each - and I want them both.

The needlepoint cases are on the same kind of usual Adler level - thoroughly modern, but with an element (in this case, the needlepoint) that's totally vintage chic.

Contour Cases Make Silicone and Plastic Appealing

When I wasn't checking out the new Apple goods at Macworld, I had my eye out for new accessories; mainly, I'm eager to see what new spin on iPhone cases there are. The Contour Cases' booth managed to change my mind a little about silicone cases by showing off bright colors and slimmer profiles.

It seems like the vast majority of iPhone and iPod Touch cases are silicone right now, and knowing its durability, it's no shocker, but I hate putting my hand in my bag and touching something that feels like a tire tread.

Contour's cases fit a little close to the device, felt great in my hand, and the color family (lots of greens, blues, and blacks) is modern and cool. Likewise, the hard plastic cases didn't feel like they'd shatter if you dropped them on the asphalt.

Some of the shown styles are on their website already, but I'm looking forward to new cases being added soon.
