Oh Apple, how can I ever quit you? As much as I love my Apple, I can get a little frustrated when it releases a great product, then comes out with an even better one just a few months later. How can I ever keep up?! This fact is especially true when it comes to iPods. We've seen so many iterations of the famous MP3 player hit the shelves, that you may have forgotten where it all started. Which Apple Announcement Are You the Most Excited About?

It was a busy day in SF yesterday with all eyes on the "It's Only Rock and Roll" event. Not only did Steve Jobs made his triumphant, black turtlenecked return to the keynote stage after taking time off for his health, but iTunes 9 was introduced, and then there were the iPods. Oh, the video and FM tuner enabled iPods. Plus, who could forget the monster capacity bump to 160GB on the iPod Classic and new candy-colored iPod Shuffles? My head is spinning.

Personally, I'm pretty excited about the iPod Nano's video function (which shoots at VGA quality 640x480), as well as the integrated Nike + pedometer. I mean, hello - a geek's gotta stay in shape! Now share your favorites - which Apple announcement are you most excited about?

Knock Off Gadgets and Goods to Be Donated to the Poor

Last year alone, the US Customs and Border Protection seized an estimated 23 million dollars worth of counterfeit consumer electronics. In addition to knock off gadgets like iPods and TVs, they also seize items including clothing, shoes, household goods, and toys. New York and New Jersey customs checkpoints - both airports and seaports - have decided to emulate other US checkpoint locations by kicking off a program next month to donate the cargo items to the poor in third world countries. Naturally, they will primarily focus on distributing items of need - like clothing and footwear - before electronics and handbags. Trademark owners are usually open to donating the goods once the fake logos are removed.

Incipio's iPod Shuffle Wafer Cases Are Good Enough to Eat

It's rare for me to actually describe an iPod case as mouthwatering, but that's exactly what Incipio's Wafer dermaSHOT Case is ($15). Naturally, it's not edible, but it just looks like a delicious treat.

The case, which works only with the iPod Shuffle's latest generation, is available in chocolate, strawberry, or vanilla . . . oops, I mean brown, pink, or yellow. The silicone will protect your little iPod, and your diet, possibly; I just don't think it would taste very good.

The New iPod Shuffle Earphone Dilemma . . . Solved!

After checking out Apple's teeny and tiny new iPod Shuffle yesterday I must admit that I did ooo and aww a bit, but mainly because of its ridiculously small size. I was picturing myself clipping it on my workout gear and going for runs or walks without having to worry about any cases or complicated contraptions. But wait, what about the earphones with the built-in controls that we all dislike so much? Yes, if you want a new shuffle, you'd be forced to use these earphones or else you'd have a useless iPod. Well thanks to you Scosche and its inline control adapter kit, you can keep your favorite pair of earbuds by plugging in the control adapter to them. No word on pricing or availability just yet.

Womanhandling the New iPod Shuffle

Yesterday Apple announced its tiniest media player to date - the 4GB iPod Shuffle. Well today I cruised on over to the Apple store for some hands-on action with the new device and to test out these easy-access controls we've been hearing so much about - and the ones that most of you aren't very happy about. The actual headphone controls are pretty nifty and useful especially if you want to switch playlists, which you couldn't do with the second generation shuffle. But the whole idea of having to own multiple pairs in case one breaks kinda sucks.

The Apple guru's explained to me that there's numerous companies like Monster which will offer their own version of the headphones and thankfully they will range in price. The only other way you'd be able to listen to your shuffle (if your headphones break) is through external speakers or with a car adapter with the shuffle's autoplay. . . but you wouldn't be able to adjust the volume, or switch from playlist to playlist. I didn't get a confirmation on more colors and sizes to come, but that's basically a guarantee. So if you aren't digging the black or silver, I say wait a few months and you'll probably have a rainbow of colors to choose from. The new shuffle can now be purchased online and will be in stores within the next couple of days.

Do You Like the Shuffle's Controls in the Headphones?

Yesterday's stealthy new iPod Shuffle announcement may have come as a small surprise, but it wasn't unwelcome; it seemed time to update the lightest, cheapest iPod.

While there are definite pluses (the low price, the 4GB storage, the new voice-over technology) you guys, I, and the Internet in general are in an uproar over the controls being in the earbuds.

Break 'em or lose 'em, you've got to get a new set of the earbuds if you want to use the iPod. Third party headphones? Sure, you can use them, but not without an adapter - which Apple will make, but that's another thing to buy.

I'm torn; aesthetically, the device does look very nice blank, but it seems a little irritating to have to either use (or harder for me, not lose) the earbuds the Shuffle comes with, or pay extra for something different.
