What Gadget Do You Want to Shrink?

After weeks of rumors, the smaller, sleeker PS3 Slim was revealed at the GamesCom conference in Germany yesterday. The benefit is obvious - the Slim will sure fit much better in your media furniture and both will travel much easier.

Sony's response to a size demand is great; people are always hoping their favorite gadgets came in a smaller size for whatever purposes of convenience - why else do rumors of an iPhone Nano persist? And the netbook market grows every day.

Though I'm OK with the size of my iPhone (I have no Zoolander-like desires for it to be that small), I would like to see an even smaller, clutch-sized Kindle, and in my opinion, any gaming console can always lose a few pounds (so uh, good job, PS3!).

7 Things Apple Didn't Include in the iPhone 3G S

Who doesn't love a new iPhone?! Although the iPhone 3G S is nearly identical to the iPhone 3G on the outside, it certainly has a few more (desperately needed) bells and whistles on the inside. But after all the excitement from the WWDC liveblogging action, I got a second to catch my breath, and tally all of the things the new iPhone 3G S is missing. Yes, there are a few things missing, and the first one is kinda obvious:

More Carrier Options: I think if Apple allowed more carriers to offer the iPhone, it would totally take over the market. I can't tell you how many people I've talked to that want the iPhone, but won't take the plunge because they either dislike AT&T, or just don't want to change providers.

Lower Upgrade Prices: And I quote directly from Apple's product page: "For non-qualified customers, including existing AT&T customers who want to upgrade from another phone or replace an iPhone 3G, the price with a new two-year agreement is $499 (8GB), $599 (16GB), or $699 (32GB)." Now that's highway robbery.
Camera Flash: It's great that Apple is giving us a great new 3 megapixel camera with auto focus, auto macro, and auto white balance, but what about a flash for those super low light situations? I was hoping . . .
Push Email: The iPhone would be my all-in-one business and pleasure phone if I didn't have to obsessively have to check my inbox. Nuff said.
Ability to Run More Than One App at Once: It's a pain in my rear when I am knee deep in a sweet Tetris game and receive a text message. I then have to exit Tetris, and enter the messaging app. Is there a way to pause one app while you open another? Well, is there!?
Colors: Remember when the first iPod was just plain white, and then all of the sudden a rainbow of iPod Mini's, iPod Nano's and iPod Shuffles washed over us? Yeah, that would be awesome now too.
Flash support: With the majority of websites using flash embedded videos, and some of the funnest games out there being flash, it would make sense to have this added feature. I mean, if you want us to surf the web on this little gadget, not to mention that some websites are all Flash, let us do what you made this phone to do - play games, surf the web, and you know, make some calls here or there.

New Nanos to Be Announced Next Week

As the third-gen iPhone specs and features rumors continue to swirl, I can at least pass on some Apple product news that may come to fruition.

I ran into a tipster during the fun E3 festivities today who told me that Apple will not only be announcing a new iPhone during their WWDC keynote on Monday but a new iPod Nano as well. Unfortunately I couldn't get any more details beyond that, but considering the latest iPod Shuffle is extremely tiny, I don't think it's a far cry to say the new Nano will be smaller as well (well at least slimmer).

Tomorrow morning, team geek will be heading off to Apple's keynote address which kicks off this year's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). You can catch all of the live action, right here at 10 a.m. PST. Naturally, we're very excited about the third generation iPhone announcement - which is rumored to be cheaper, will include a camera that can capture video and will come with a built-in magnetometer (basically a digital compass). There have also been rumblings that a new iPod Nano will be unveiled, and we could even see a new Apple tablet make an appearance. Aside from the iPhone, I can't wait to see if Mr. Steve Jobs is in attendance. See you tomorrow!

iPod touch

The new iPod touch introduced today features built-in Wi-Fi networking and a multi-touch user interface - first introduced on iPhone - that makes it easy to find all of your music, video, and other digital content and enjoy it on the gorgeous widescreen display on iPod touch. The multi-touch interface uses Safari, Apple’s YouTube application, and the new iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store. New iPod nano

Create your own custom ringtones in iTunes

Using the new built-in ringtone maker in iTunes, you’ll soon be able to create custom ringtones by selecting a segment, up to 30-seconds long, from any of the more than one million participating songs.
