Geek Gear: Great Desk Accessories

I asked you all to share your favorite desk accessories by bookmarking them on TeamSugar last week and as expected, the results were nothing short of wacky. From USB gadgets that massage your hands, LED clocks and paper clip holders to novelty card readers - there are very few goofy gadgets we didn't find.

I like to keep my desktop as clean as possible, so while most of these items entertain me and would likely instigate endless inquiries and jokes I can't see myself buying many of them. My favorite, however, is the USB Powered Meowing Kitty Sensor, $24, that tdamji found. It's an animated cat figure that uses V.M.S. (Vision, Motion, Sound) technology and an infrared sensor that detects movements to alert you of any intruders. It also meows and hisses and sings melodies. If that won't entertain you while you sit in your cubicle farm I don't know what will.

I know, stocking stuffers haven't even crossed your mind yet, but now that I'm starting to whip up my holiday gift guides, I can't help but think about gadgets and gizmos that would make perfect Christmas gifts.

Not only is it a handy accessory for your desk, but it's also ideal for taking on trips, or for your nightstand at home. And with its grippy surface, you can keep your device in a vertical or horizontal position.

I define desk accessories as things you don't really need, but you want. From novelty speakers, USB-powered beverage heaters and coolers and lamps that charge gadgets to goofy Kung Fu tape dispensers - there seems to be no end to the genre.

I don't need the iCat speaker from Firebox, but that doesn't stop me from drooling over it. I mean, it plugs into your MP3 player, plays music, moves its tail and lights up. What more desk entertainment can a girl ask for?

Pottery Barn's New Simple Dock Is Just That

I remain somewhat impressed by Pottery Barn's tech accessories, because even when they're overpriced, they usually hit the right style mark.

The Simple Dock in particular, is no exception; not only is it pretty nice looking (though my thoughts are still in conflict over whether I like the faux leather), but the size is great for a smaller place or desk. Which brings me to my next point; iPod docks these days keep showing up with so many bells and whistles and extras, and sometimes you - or a person you might want to give it to you - don't need all that.

But still, Pottery Barn did it again with their disappointing pricing: $80 for this? It was appealing to me until I got to that point. It'll inevitably go on sale, but I still don't understand why they price such simple (but not altogether unique) products so high.

Adorable Bunny and Lime Green Cube Cord Organizers

I love cute, kitschy accessories that keep your desk looking cheery yet serve a functional purpose. Displayed on Tokyo Mango, these Cube and Bunny Cord Organizers are two unique ways to keep your cables and cords looking neat and tidy.
