How to Receive a Daily Agenda From Google Calendar

Google Calender has tons of features that make it easy to stay organized, and one of my fave tools is the daily agenda email.

To get your daily agenda, just go into your GCal and look in the left margin for My Calendars. Click the down-arrow button and then click Notifications. Check off the "email" button next to Daily Agenda. Click save and you're all set.

The daily agenda emails will hit your inbox each day at 5 a.m., so even if you forget to open up your calendar that day, you'll still know what's going on. And you can get separate agendas if you have different Google calenders for different groups.

Every time I visit home, I have to call my parents and each sister separately to figure out a weekend when everyone is home. And planned vacations together? That's a minimum of eight calls just to figure out everyone's availability.

But not anymore - I have invited my family to a shared Google Calendar. Under "My Calendars" just click Create. I called mine the ultra-scintillating "Family Calendar" and added my family members' email addresses so they can add and edit events.

So far, things are going swimmingly and the fam is taking my lead - I've put my next flight itinerary in the details part of the calendar and I'm just waiting for someone to volunteer to pick me up from the airport. Anyone? Bueller?

New GCal Tasks in Action

The other day, I briefly mentioned how Google was rolling out task list functionality within Google Calendar. Today when I opened my GCal, what beautiful option appeared? It was a lovely task link for keeping my to-dos and calendar items in one spot. Now you have the ability to conveniently manage your to-dos in your Gmail account as well as in your Calendar - I guess this means I am one step closer to kissing Remember the Milk goodbye.

What's great about GCal Tasks is that you can enter items that have due dates, and they will automatically show up in your calendar. When a task is finished, you can click its check box and you can sort tasks by due date under the Actions menu at the bottom of the list. Tasks are draggable and droppable, just like items in your GCal.

Use Spanning Sync to Link Your Google Calendar and iCal

My best friend uses iCal, but my sister uses Google Calendar. How do I keep up with their invites?

I recently found the Spanning Sync application, which synchronizes Google Calendar and iCal and allows you to share calendars between multiple Macs. It also connects Google Calendar to your iPod, iPhone and other devices.

All you have to do is download Spanning Sync, share your Google Calendar, then sync it with iCal on your computer. From then on, any changes you make in Google Calendar show up in iCal and vice versa. When I tried it the sync was quick and effective but the application wasn't 100 percent intuitive. I had to create new "calendars" in my Google calendar in order to transfer over my iCal calendars, a step that isn't clear when you look at the sync page. The application is free for 15 days, after which you can sign up for either a $25 one-year subscription or a $65 one-time purchase.

Geek Tip: Sync Google Calendar With Your iPhone

So you just got your hands on the luxurious iPhone and can't wait to start using it as your personal assistant. The only problem is, you have everything in your Google Calendar and aren't overly excited about transferring all your appointments to the iPhone's built in calendar. Thankfully Switched has provided the steps needed to sync your Google Calendar with the iPhone, which is especially easy for Mac users with iCal.

To get started, go to Google Calendar and then "Calendar Settings" in the drop-menu like the one shown below. Click on it. Then find the Private Address section and click on the ICAL icon. This will create a URL for your calendar. Open iCal and go to Calendar > Subscribe. Paste the URL from the Google calendar here. Once your iCal is subscribed, your next iPhone sync will put all your Google calendar events right in your iPhone.

This deserves another two big thumbs up. If you are like me and you use Google calendar to plan events and stay organized, you will be happy to know that you can now access Google calendar from your cell phone!

No need to use your laptop to check out your daily or monthly agenda, just open your phone's internet browser, login and go to Google Calendar and you'll see your schedule of upcoming events, which include details like the date, time, location, description, and guest list. This new Google feature also has a 'quick add' feature which allows users to add appointments on the fly.
