How I Convinced My Hubby Not to Hate Running

My husband loves his bike and he loves his skis, but he's never been much of a slip-on-your-sneaks-and-go-for-a-run kind of guy. That is until now.

Wooed him with gear: To replace his cotton tube socks, sweatpants, and high school t-shirts, I got him some wicking socks, real running pants, and merino wool shirts. He was amazed that after a run there were no blisters or chafing from his loose pants, and he stayed relatively dry thanks to the wicking shirt.
Added a little friendly competition: It's human nature to be a little competitive, and my hubby is no exception. For a couple bucks, I downloaded the Nike+ GPS app to his iPhone. He loves that it keeps track of his time, distance, pace, and calories burned, and the GPS charts his route. The latest version of the app has the Nike+ Tag feature, which allows you to compete with friends. The object of the game is not to be "It," and in our case, whoever runs the shortest distance becomes "It." The competition has actually motivated both of us to run.

Wedding season is moving right along here on the Sugar Network, but it's always fun to take a look back and see how everything started. Marriage proposals are getting more creative with the addition of smartphones, video games, and movie magic, and I can't help but tear up after seeing these sweetly geeky proposals from geeks all across the country. Check out six of my favorites here.

Making the movies jealous - The latest in a string of viral marriage proposals, Matt asked Ginny to marry him in an elaborate (Mac made?) movie trailer in a theater full of onlookers. Unbeknownst to her, there's a camera on her the entire time, and her reactions are totally adorable. Movie geeks, unite!
Widgets proposal - A Mac nerd made up a custom widget to propose to his girlfriend back in 2007. Mac dashboard widgets were the hot ticket item back then, and this one was the first (and only?) of its kind.
HP7 Android app - Disguising a Harry Potter trivia quiz as a marriage proposal isn't easy, but this determined geek learned how to develop one on his own in order to surprise the Muggle of his dreams.

Pilot Scoop: Person Of Interest

Summer may have barely begun, but you'd better believe that we're already making preparations for Fall - more specifically, arranging our TV lineups. There are a lot of new shows to check out, but luckily we're here to help you sift through the myriad of new programs to figure out which ones are up your alley. Today, I'm giving you the lowdown on Person of Interest, a new drama starring Lost alum Michael Emerson.

What it's about: The story, which looks like it will be a procedural series, centers on the relationship between Reese and Finch, a pair of men with mysterious pasts who team up to try to prevent crimes before they happen. Finch (Emerson) has developed a system that provides the social security numbers of Manhattan residents who are about to involved in a dangerous crime. Reese (Jim Cavaziel) is a military man-turned-bum whose brain and brawn help Finch protect the innocent.
Where it works: Emerson is excellent as always, and his relationship with broody Cavaziel makes for a fun, geeky, odd couple of sorts. Though both guys are loners, the few hints we get at their past lives and loved ones could make for an interesting undercurrent to the weekly cases.
Where it doesn't: The pilot lays on some of the themes pretty thick: the dialogue is painful at times and some of the heavier action scenes feel forced in for dramatic effect. I found myself wanting more character development and sci-fi and less run-of-the-mill sleuthing.
You might like this show if: You loved Minority Report, since the premise is pretty similar.
