To fete Bill Gates stepping down from Microsoft, I thought I'd give him a little send-off, celebrating not his technological accomplishments, like every other tech site is doing, but by looking at the one thing that we as a public have judged Bill Gates on for years. Yes, I'm referring to his bangs. Join me, friends, on a journey, a hirsute journey of wacky hairdos worn by the Grand Poo-bah of the PC, Bill Gates. Check out my slideshow for the hair-raising highlights!

Stocking Stuffers: Tiny Treats For Geeky Guys

If you are in the market for stocking stuffers for the geeky guys in your life look no further. After years of judging the Christmas morning faces of my male family members I have compiled a collection of small gifts that will make a big statement.

While it may seem juvenile for anyone over age 12, the Tony Hawk HelmetCam, $50, is a surefire hit. It can strap on to any helmet and has a special laser target feature, which means he can set it, press record and start recording extreme sports, birthday parties or goofy nights out with friends. The geeky guys in your life will flip - I promise.

Mario iPod Cozy ($8)

Top 10 Gifts For Your Geeky Guy

Holiday gifts for that geeky guy in your life can be stressful, considering he's usually in-the-know about all the cool gadgets and techie treats on the market. My theory is to make sure you get him something that you both can enjoy, that way you're never agitated that he wants to spend a million hours shining his new toys or programing TiVo.

Tivo Series3
If your fella is geeky enough that he took you on more than one date to the electronics store before purchasing his beloved HDTV, he needs a TiVo upgrade to the TiVo Series 3 HD Digital Media Recorder. He’ll be able to control live HDTV, record two digital cable shows at once, and accumulate 300 hours of standard recording time (32 in HD) so you two can cuddle up with TiVo on weekends. Get the Tivo Series 3 for about $700.

Canon PowerShot SD900 Titanium 10MP Digital Elph Camera with 3x Optical Zoom

If he’s a Canon man, (and what geek isn’t?), he’ll love the sleek Canon PowerShot SD900 Titanium, which offers an elegant titanium body and perpetual curve design. Its 10-megapixel CCD captures enough detail large, high quality prints and Canon’s reputation for high functionality means you can’t go wrong. Get the souped up Canon for $399.94.

iRobot Scooba 5900 Floor Washing Robot

Buy a geek a robot and he’ll love you forever, but buy a geek Floor Washing Robot and he’ll clean! The iRobot can clean up to 500 square feet on a single battery charge and puts down fresh solution as it cleans under kitchen cabinets, tables and other hard-to-reach areas. It’s safe to use on all sealed hardwood, tile and linoleum. He can check his e-mail while his iRobot does the dirty work. Buy the Scooba 5900 for $399.99 and receive a free Roomba 401.

For seven more gift ideas for your geeky guy, just read more

Zojirushi Bread Maker

The logic is simple: get a geeky guy a Japanese bread maker and get free bread. The Zojirushi BBCC-X20 makes a fresh loaf of bread from start to finish, in a two-pound, horizontal loaf. You get the choice of using the dough cycle by itself, then finishing in your regular oven, which means you can make dough for crisp pizza crust, light dinner rolls, artisan breads, sourdough, cakes – or any other carb-filled delight. Get the Zojirushi BBCC-X20 Home Bread Maker for $199.95.

Turbo-Groomer 5.0

No one wants to admit their beau has nasty nose hairs, but we all know they’re perfectly natural (well, kinda). Help your geeky guy feel less gross by getting him a techie toy to combat his unwanted hair. The Turbo-Groomer 5.0 features Swiss stainless steel rotary blades with titanium cutting edges that whirl at a high-torque (yikes!) and two bright LED "headlights" that help eliminate shadows. He’ll be so fascinated by the light that he’ll forget what he’s doing. Get your Turbo Groomer for $49.99.

Canon HV10 3.1MP High-Definition MiniDV Camcorder with 10x Optical Zoom

What guy doesn't love toting a top of the line camcorder around and what girl doesn't love being filmed? The Canon High-Def MiniDV Camcorder features advanced photo features (including a histogram display and built-in flash) and is small enough that he can sneak it into your purse. Just don't pull a Paris. Get the Canon MiniDV for $994.88.

Nintendo Wii

So Nintendo has recalled the strap, but the Wii is still the hottest game out there. Nintendo fans and non-gamers seem to be bonding over the Wii’s interactive games that force you to move your whole body and get active. If you were smart enough to plan ahead (and wait in the sleet and snow!) you probably already got your geek a Wii for Christmas. If not, check out Craigslist for people reselling them for a profit.
Check it out on Nintendo's website.

Voltaic Solar Laptop Bag

If your guy is the geeky, earth-loving type get him a snazzy Voltaic solar messanger/laptop bag. It's a mobile power generator so it will charge your devices without tying you to a power outlet. It will recharge most small electronic devices including: cell phones, cameras, two way radios, PDAs, and MP3s. Note: it is not designed to charge laptops, but you'll never have to wait for him to charge his 10 million gadgets again. Get a Voltaic for $229.

eStarling Wi-Fi Gmail/Flickr Enabled LCD Frame

If you give your geek a geeky digital frame, you can rest assured he'll be thinking of you all day - everyday. The eStarling frame connects to a wireless network and automatically displays photos e-mailed to it in a slideshow format. You'll be able to shoot photos on your cell then e-mail them directly to your geek's desk. Get your geek an eStarling frame for $249.99.

Micro Mosquito

This is the best gift for your guy if he's a wannabe pilot. It looks just like a helicopter, and with seven full function, digital proportional controls, and a flight speed of 10-20 feet per minute, he'll be entertained for hours. Enough said.
My Geeky TV Crush: Jim Halpert

I've celebrated my boyfriend, the geeky guys I love, and now I've got to give it up for my imaginary boyfriends on Valentine's Day too! And my big, ultimate (for right now anyway), TV crush is Jim Halpert. Not John Krasinski, but Jim Halpert.

Is obsessed too strong a word? I've loved Jim since The Office started airing, because he represents my kind of guy - the geeky but adorable guy who was too shy to talk to girls in high school, but who eventually comes into their own based on smarts and a killer personality. I think Jim's a fox, but his attraction, for me, is definitely rooted in his geekiness. I've never swooned harder than when I saw Jim playing Second Life and Call of Duty (the real John's no slouch in the tech department either - he's narrated Ask.com and Apple TV commercials!). Sigh. Happy Valentine's Day, Fake TV Boyfriend!

Source

Before him, I thought the Dell dude, Ben Curtis - remember him? "Dude, you're gettin' a Dell" - was pretty cute (subsequent marijuana-related arrests notwithstanding). And even though I'm a Mac gal, I totally have a thing for sweet little PC, John Hodgman.

Add to them the bespectacled Verizon guy, Paul Marcarelli, who dutifully asks whether you can hear him now and Alltel Wireless' blond cutie Chad Brokaw, and we've got a nice little collection of geeky crushes, courtesy of the tech advertising industry.
Geeks We Love: Kevin Hall of Dvice

I check in daily with Dvice, not only because of its gadget coverage, but also because of its sweet sci-fi influence. So just in case you aren't familiar (and if not, why?), let me introduce you to one of Dvice's endearingly geeky contributors - and one of this year's Geeks We Love - Kevin Hall. Recent Brooklyn transplant, this geek hottie has traveled the world, seen (almost) everything, and can still say that robots are his favorite thing . . . ever.

GS: Pretend I'm a total stranger (and let's be honest, I pretty much am), and tell me a little about yourself.
KH: Well, I'm a 24-year-old freelancer living in Brooklyn, NY. I'm a transplant, though - I was born in La Jolla, CA, and have lived in Indonesia, Pennsylvania, London, and Texas. After graduating from college, I knew I wanted to write and heard NYC is the place to do it, so I moved here. I was lucky enough to get a shot at blogging for Gizmodo, then started writing for DVICE, and editing a SCI-FI channel blog called Visions For Tomorrow. That's all rather boring stuff, I suppose. What else? My favorite color is orange, I love eating at all of New York's fine burger spots, and I'm probably more into robots than anyone made of flesh should be. Seriously, if technology made it possible to implant my brain into a robotic shell, I'd totally do it.

To see how Kevin appreciates old(er) school technology, what gadget is on his hot list, and why I'd go on a Valentine's date with him any day of the week, just read more.

GS: Are you strictly a gadget type of guy, or are you also a sci-fi nerd and/or gaming geek?
KH: All three, I'd say, though mostly a sci-fi and gaming geek. I love gadgets, but I don't camp in lines for the latest thing. In fact, I've got a fat, old Samsung clamshell for a cell that's maybe 4- or 5-years-old now, and the same 3.2-megapixel Sony Cyber-shot that I had in high school. And when it comes to science fiction, all of my favorite shows have come and gone - Star Trek: TNG, Space Above and Beyond, Cowboy Bebop, Futurama, and Firefly. I do enjoy the new Battlestar Galactica, of course, and I still love Star Wars, despite my love of Star Trek. If it's in space, I'll probably love it. I read more sci-fi than I watch.

Oh, how I love video games. I'd say the titles that define my tastes would be Deus Ex, Myth, Shadow of the Colossus, Halo, Tribes, Guardian Heroes (for the Saturn), Everquest, Anarchy Online, EVE - now that I've started, I really could go on forever. The last game I played was Gears of Wars 2, and that was about 20 minutes ago. And now it's five a.m., so yeah, you can see how I enjoy my gaming!

GS: Do you remember your very first gadget? Mine was a pager. No, really.
KH: I think my first gadget was probably a Game Boy. Growing up overseas, most of the games we had access to were pirated cartridges titled something like "99 games in one," but each one would just have maybe five or 10 ripoffs of Mario and Pac Man and stuff like that. I think I've actually owned almost every iteration of the Game Boy, from the old beloved brick to the niche-y Micro. I guess I'm slowing down in my old age, though, as I didn't run out to replace my first-gen DS with a Lite.

GS: What gadget are you lusting over right now?
KH: Boring answer, I know, but the iPhone. I'm really impressed by it, especially now that the App Store has been blown wide open. I'm not hardcore enough to want a Blackberry, and I hate cellphones too much to be interested by anything else on the market. The iPhone seems to be a good blend of functional phone and handheld computer, and that really appeals to me.

GS: Dvice is a Sci-Fi owned blog, so you must get cool insider scoops, right? You know how Battlestar Galactica ends, don't you?! Tell me! Tell me now!
KH: We get our tie-ins and exclusive content, sure, but I can't say much more than that. The last thing I want is one of the Sci-Fi Channel's Terminators to return from the future and kill me in the middle of this interview.

GS: What would a geeky-cool guy like you want to do for your lady friend on Valentine's Day? Take us through your perfect date.
KH: Well, we'd start out by taking a newly constructed hover train from New York to Germany (yeah, doesn't exist, just roll with it - I love trains), and hit up this restaurant called Baggers, which has fully automated service. Then we'd fly over to Russia and hitch a ride up to the International Space Station for a flashlight-lit (I imagine candles would be dangerous) dessert in zero-gee and some stargazing. I think the brilliance of the Earth from orbit would make a pretty romantic backdrop, so we'd probably ride around for a full orbit, uh, "playing video games," and then it's back to Earth for us. Or - for a creepy alternate ending - she could reveal that she's actually a robot from an alien world and I'd follow her home. Or we could just go to Tokyo - it's my favorite place to visit and it's about as close as you can get to living in the future.

Oh my! In her quest to assist the single ladies (and men) of the world, Patti advises that the women in her club go to gadget events in order to meet guys. "Men who have money like to have toys," she says. You can watch the entire clip below. . . And one more piece of dating advice from this geek - the Apple store is great for picking up guys!

Valentine's Day is less than three weeks away, and last week I asked you guys to help me get my shopping out of the way for my geeky guy.

I'm pretty close to getting this HomeDock Deluxe from DLO, and at $150, it's a splurgey but a decent price for a great gift.
