What's not to love about a good do-it-yourself project? They're equal parts creative, challenging, and fun, not to mention generally inexpensive. Plus, there's an instant sense of accomplishment as soon as you finish a new project. November 21 is the official anniversary of the Nintendo DS, which hit stores five years ago today.

Over the past five years, the DS has seen its fair share of changes, from the cosmetic: awesome bundles and color options (like gold, red, blue, and green) and fun cases - to the inventive: this year's DSi and subsequent accessories and larger-screen model available overseas.

I'm proud to profess my love for the DS again this year: Happy Birthday Nintendo DS!

When Did You Get Your First iPod?

Eight years ago today, Apple announced the first iPod - what you may recognize now as a 5G clunky gadget with a click wheel. The original iPod held 1,000 songs and weighed 6.5 ounces (current iPod classics hold 40,000 songs and weigh just under five ounces).

In the past eight years, the iPod has seen many changes - it's kind of unbelievable that now a tiny shuffle can hold nearly as much music as the original!

Celebrate Earth Hour Tonight by Turning the Lights Off

Earth Day is coming up, but before then I hope you're participating in Earth Hour, which takes place tonight at 8:30 p.m. until 9:30, no matter where you are or what time zone you're in. Earth Hour is an effort by the World Wildlife Foundation, and all you have to do to participate is to turn your lights off.

The goal is for 1 billion people to go dark, thereby "voting earth" and making an impact as a united planet.

So far, everyone is voting yes to turn out the lights, and if you care to make it geeky, Earth Hour encourages you to blog about it and tag it with earthhour or voteearth, and your location, or Twitter about it and add #earthhour or #voteearth and your #location in your update.

It's March 14, and any good geek knows what that means: It's Pi Day!

Yep, 3/14 corresponds to the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter (3.1415926535. . .).
