Legos Make Their Way Into High Fashion

With their bright colors and geometrical shapes, it's no surprise that designers are incorporating Legos into their trend-setting creations. During New York Fashion Week, Spring '08 the Fab ladies had the chance to check out the Marc by Marc Jacobs Spring collection, which just so happened to feature Lego belt buckles and hair accessories. It all started with Balenciaga, who came out with the Lego inspired heels in February- supposedly their version of 'sporty stilettos'. Geek Gear Round-Up: Geek Jewelry

Last week I asked for your help finding a great piece of geek jewelry to give to one of my good friends, who is moving to Europe, as a going away present. I must say, of all geek out missions I have sent you readers on, this one was probably my favorite. The results were tremendous.

My favorite piece, and the one I will likely get my friend, is the "Less than three" Heart Necklace that Colormesticky found. "This one is cute enough that most people wouldn't even realize what a nerd you are for wearing this," says Colormesticky. I quite agree.

I also loved the Cat 5 Bracelet that Mme Hart discovered. It's probably not the ideal going away present, but I think a bunch of my friends and nieces would adore it. The bracelet is made of colorful ethernet strands and secured with a fold-over jewelry clasp that allows for easy one-hand closing.

Adelaide bookmarked the SEIKO Electronic Ink watch, which has been around the geek-o-sphere recently for good reason. She notes it's a "fusion of technology and elegance." Tres chic!

Geek Out: Help Me Find Geek Jewelry!

I am addicted to geek jewelry. I don't always wear it, but I love shopping for it, taking photos of it, drooling over it and giving it to people as gifts. One of my good friends is moving to Europe to work with a semi-famous photographer and I thought it would be fun to get her a piece of conversational, geek chic jewelry as a going away present.

I love this creative and contemporary Forever Young Ring by designer Jacqueline Sanchez, but it's a little out of my price range. The rings are handcrafted and feature a black diamond set in 14kt yellow gold so they are a tad out of my price range. Luckily, I know many of you are web mavens and can help me find her something just as great.

Geek jewelry comes in many forms. There's the stuff that looks homemade like the recycled capacitor earrings, functional gadgets that are turned into accessory pieces and then there are fancy geeky rings that cost thousands of dollars. Though I might not wear it to a party, I have developed a sincere appreciation of it all. Fancy Geek Jewelry Hits The Chic Spot

Some tech-inspired jewelry can be, well, geeky and unattractive. Such is not the case with the Fancy line, created by designer Sally Brock, who has been designing jewelry since she was 13. The line, which is available online and at her Seattle, Washington studio, is made up of an impressive selection of handmade rings, earrings, bracelets and gifts with a distinctive geek flair. I adore the Measuring Tape Ring, $65, and the Double Bikini Ring, $200, which looks like a Hazmat symbol or propeller. Also, the Binary wedding Bands encrusted with gems offer a fun and colorful kick to the normally anesthetic-looking binary bands.

Molecule Jewelry: Totally Geeky or Geek Chic?

I know my periodic table pretty well, but I may need some help figuring out what these molecules are! Thankfully, FractalSpin spelled it all out in the captions for me: caffeine, dopamine, estrogen, acetylcholine, and serotonin (my fave). All made out of sterling silver, these necklaces replicate each corresponding molecule for you to don, and show off your high level of taste and geekiness. But would you in fact wear any of these? My guess is hell yes.

Geek Accessories: Chic Flair For Everyday

I shared my favorite geek ties with you readers earlier this week and many of you noted that you're, well, not exactly tie wearers. If you're decidedly female and don't rock the 2002 Avril Lavigne look, or if you're a fella who hates that office-geek look, consider the many other geek chic accessories out there.

My all time favorite geek accessories fall into the geek jewelry category. From thin gold and silver earbud-inspired necklaces, Lego-inspired diamond rings to funky and youthful video game-inspired pieces like this Space Invaders necklace.

Another subtle way of showing off your inner geek is by introducing small techie elements into your clothing. I must warn that you have to be careful here, as it's very easy to slip past the chic tee shirts (particularly if you're a fella) and find yourself in awkward gamer shirts. The best geek tee only hint at their tech savvy with cunning puns and small retro-inspired graphics.

Geek Jewelry: Stolen Jewels by Mike and Maaike

Mike and Maaike's beautiful pixelated leather jewelry caught my eye among an amassment of fabulously geeky items at the 2007 International Contemporary Furniture Fair, so I was delighted to learn more about the makers and collection. According to their website, the effort was an exploration of tangible vs virtual in relation to real and perceived value.

"Using google image search, we browsed through some of the most expensive and often famous jewelry in the world, the low-res images we found were stolen, doctored, then transferred to leather, creating a tangible new incarnation. With the expense and intricacy of the jewels stripped away, their essence and visual intensity are extracted," say the designers. The collection was created on printed and scored leather.
