I can't say I've ever been on a gamer vacation, even though I'm usually a "geek on vacation" on any trip. Nevertheless, for those of you who are ultimate gamers and need a fun getaway, Travelhacker compiled a list of some of the best cities, expos and conventions that are guaranteed to satisfy any gamer. Here are a few of my faves:
- Akihabara, Tokyo — The city of lights, electronics and gadgets galore, Akihabara is known as the "Gamer's Mecca"—being a hot spot for all things techie.
- World Cyber Games — The World Cyber Games is an international e-sports festival where more than one million visitors come every year.

I'm all about taking time out to watch a good flick over a holiday weekend, and this weekend the geeks can look forward to at least one move that's aimed at them: Gamer. Now, I'm a big fan of games, and have even been known to watch a few shows about gamers, but this action movie reminds me of a few other ones that weren't so great. Remember Death Race — a movie that pits death row inmates against each other in a race to see who gets set free?

There's a new reality show in town, but this one doesn't deal with breakups, relationships, or jobs in the fashion industry. It's all about gamers. SciFi's new reality series called WCG Ultimate Gamer pits twelve gamers against one another for a chance to win $100,000 dollars and be the face of the World Gaming Championships.

Can you spout off gaming stats like a baseball fanatic? Do you know the best selling game of last year, or the most popular console of all time? If not, then you may want to pick up your own copy of the 2009 Guinness Book of World Records Gamer's Edition and keep up with gaming trivia.

After seeing the The Girl's Guide to Gaming Handbook, I was totally prepared when I saw this Girl Gamer mag by Nintendo. The pink title, the pink DS Lite, pink lipstick, it's all starting to look the same! I can't wait to get my hands on a copy so I can examine the goods, and see if it actually has some substance underneath its pastel pink cover (although I must admit, its not half as bad as the Gaming Handbook).

Now this is something I can totally get behind: the guys over at Cheap Ass Gamer have started a game drive for our troops in Iraq. I can imagine on top of the scorching heat that the distance from family and what's familiar can really make our troop's experience unbearable.
So why not help bring the comforts of home to them by sending over some of those games that are just sitting on your shelves?

I get it. I get it. Not everyone is as excited about exergaming or the newly announced Wii Fit board as FitSugar and me.

Age ain't nothin' but a number: a recent study has some surprising news about the facts and ages of gamers — specifically, that the average age of a gamer is 35.
The study also found that gamers are typically heavier and less healthy, which is not a huge surprise, but a disappointing affirmation of a stereotype that I often defend.
I know that casual gaming is hot for seniors, but I'm a bit surprised to hear that the average age is 35.
