Google unveiled its Project Glass specs last week, which brings your virtual life into the real world (sort of), thanks to augmented reality. If you think these glasses look like they've jumped right out of a futuristic flick, you're not alone. We hunted down a few other sci-fi specs that we might like to wear and a few we hope never come to pass.

If you are reading this right now you are no stranger to digital communities - be it Myspace, Facebook, TeamSugar or Flickr. Now consider a type of software that is capable of taking images from kindred communities, analyzing them for similarities, and grafting them together into an interactive three-dimensional space that puts the "networking" idea of some social sites to shame. Blaise Aguera y Arcas is an architect at Microsoft Live Labs, and the co-creator of Photosynth, a piece of software capable of assembling photos into a collection of zoomable, navigatable spaces. The idea got a standing ovation at a recent conference. Watch and you'll see why.

Geek Grad: How to Land a Web Developer Job

Tech-minded 2012 grads are eager to pursue a job in web or computer programming, named one of the year's top 10 best jobs. We spoke to a web development recruiter for tips on landing that first entry-level job. From the most important coding languages to industry expectations, check out these tips to get closer to your web developing dreams.

Education

Earn the degree: Almost all web developers have some sort of degree in computer science, whether that's an associate's or bachelor's degree. However, it's not necessary to pursue a career in web developing. What is important is becoming proficient in coding languages.
Learn coding languages outside of school: A solid computer science education is important, but mastering the ins and outs of coding requires time outside the classroom to teach yourself more than just the basics.
Develop your passions: Some developers are more visual and prefer front-end engineering (building visible products/creating code that runs in browsers) while others may prefer back-end engineering (writing the code on the server). Develop your skill set according to your interests; it'll get you through future long nights of coding!
Learn the languages: Front-end engineers should know HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Back-end engineers are best off with PHP, Python, Ruby, Java, Database Skills, Sql, Drupal, Ruby, Django, Cake PHP, and Spring knowledge.

Neighborhood coffee shops - Bring a book or your laptop and hang out at an independent coffee shop several times a week. You're more likely to see regulars (aka good-looking geeks) at local joints than you would at a chain. For an easy opener, ask if you can share the table, then spark up a conversation.
Night classes - Whether it's a dance lesson, coding class, or novel-writing seminar, classes are a great place to meet a future brainy mate. Pounce on the opportunity to partner up with the cute geek in the room, whether it's to complete a project, study, or edit each other's work.

Future Tech Women: Etsy Is Looking to Sponsor You

While the tech industry continues to grow with new products and start-ups, there's something missing - the ladies. Noticing a serious lack of women in their engineering department and that of expanding companies nationwide, Etsy announced this week the new Etsy Hacker Grants, a scholarship and sponsorship program for women in technology, hosted in conjunction with Hacker School in New York City. Etsy will provide 10 needs-based $5,000 scholarships for Hacker School's three-month Summer session (the school is already free; living in Manhattan isn't) to women interested in a career in computer engineering.

Billing the Hacker School program as a “three-month, immersive school for becoming a better programmer. It’s like a writers retreat for hackers.” With the school's focus on a supportive learning environment and exploring coding through open-source software, Etsy hopes that raising awareness for the program will help bridge the gender gap at Hacker School and eventually computer science as a whole. Plus, there's a twist in the 2012 Summer program - it'll be on location at Etsy headquarters; we're already jealous.

Flying Cars and Other Future Tech the Movies Got Right

The flying car is finally here! Well, almost. Though it doesn't look like The Jetsons' floating bubble or Marty McFly's Delorean, the Terrafugia Transition is street legal and can be preordered for the low price of $279,000. That's more than a space flight aboard the Virgin Galactic, but at least you'll be able to drive it (and pilot it!) again and again. Requirements for piloting are pretty tame: passing a test and logging 20 hours of flight time. You can get a closer look at the Transition at this week's New York Auto Show, but expect those preorders to roll out within the next year.

Of course, flying cars aren't the only sci-fi and future tech that movies and TV shows have predicted. Check out this list of other technology that has sprung from screen to real life, below.

Iris scanners - Those crazy iris scanners that identified everything from your identity to your last purchase at The Gap in Minority Report are here now.
3D Holograms - Though we can't yet watch 3D versions of ourselves on home movies, we can chat with others like CNN did during the 2008 election, and dance alongside a few holograms in Vegas.
Gesture-based interfaces - Not just for video games anymore, the gesture-based interfaces like we saw in Minority Report will soon be a real way of life - crazy gloves and all.

7 Man Bags to Store Your Tech

We found out recently that cell phone radiation could lower sperm count. Yikes! This is bad news for couples trying to expand their brood, but it also brings up a good point. Keeping your cell phone in your front pocket is probably just as bad for your package as holding a cell to your face all day is for the brain.

How do you keep your man's (or your) sperm in good health for future procreation? I suggest a man bag to store tech. Not only is it perfect for holding a cell, but you can also toss in a Kindle or iPad, notepad or sketchpad, and - of course - a retro cell phone attachment.
