When Was the Last Time You Had a Film Roll Developed?

While walking home from work the other night, I noticed an unexpected sign in the window of my favorite Walgreens, reminding the customers that yes, they still develop rolls of film. I can't recall the last time I had a roll of film developed, but someone must be asking Walgreens staffers about it if they felt the need to put up a notice. Of course, maybe it has something to do with the fact that most of us have gone digital and customers are occasionally bringing in disks, but not rolls. When was the last time you had a roll of film developed?

Even though I look forward to the megapixel number for digital cameras and cell phone cameras increasing, don't think I'm not a wistful, sometimes very old-fashioned person. I miss the look of film sometimes - its richness and romance that digital, with its sharp edges and modern beauty, lacks. That's why I've been thinking about getting a film camera lately.

Urban Outfitters has a lot of vintagey cameras, but none of them have really tempted me until I saw the Diana+ Dreamer camera. An all-plastic reproduction from a '60s model, the Diana's simplicity ensures beautiful, dreamy images - think Virgin Suicides. Add to that the fact that its mint green color means it can be displayed without being an eyesore and that it comes with a Diana book filled with images and history, and you've got a sale, my friend.

Kristen Stewart chose a sexy Reem Acra gown for the premiere of Robert Pattinson's Cosmopolis at the Cannes Film Festival today. She posed alongside Rob's pal and her On the Road costar Tom Sturridge at the event. Rob chose a hot tuxedo for his big moment after also hitting the red carpet to support Kristen at her premiere yesterday. Rob and Kristen celebrated with PDA at the afterparty along with their friends and costars. It's been an exciting time int he South of France for Rob, Kristen, and many other celebrities, and before the fun wraps up on Sunday Reese Witherspoon will take her turn in front of the cameras.

The annual amfAR Cinema Against AIDS gala took place at the Hotel du Cap in France yesterday. The glamorous event has occurred during the Cannes Film Festival for almost two decades and this year brought out many stars, including a L'Wren Scott-clad Julianna Margulies and her husband Keith Lieberthal, as well as Alec Baldwin and his fiancée Hilaria Thomas. Joshua Jackson and Diane Kruger, in Chanel, continued their red-carpet run with another appearance for the cameras after stepping out most recently for the Nights in Monaco Gala in Monte Carlo. Kirsten Dunst chose blue Louis Vuitton gown and sat with boyfriend and On the Road costar Garrett Hedlund during dinner. Milla Jovovich, who we chatted with last night at L'Oréal's bash, wore a metallic look by Atelier Versace while Kylie Minogue brought a pop of color in red. Petra Nemcova also chose the bright hue while model Doutzen Kroes went with white.

Robert Pattinson Rises Early For Cosmopolis in Cannes

Robert Pattinson drew a large crowd at the Cannes Film Festival in France this morning. He stepped out for a photocall to promote Cosmopolis after also talking up the project on Le Grand Journal yesterday. Rob will be back in front of the cameras for the premiere of the film later today, though he's already made his red-carpet debut at this year's festival. Rob supported girlfriend Kristen Stewart by showing up at the screening of her movie On the Road, which also stars his pal Tom Sturridge. The fun continued after the event when Rob and Kristen kissed on the balcony of Le Baron's Cannes outpost. Kristen is apparently still in the South of France, but we'll have to wait and see if she makes another red-carpet appearance with Rob this afternoon.

Two hours with Gael García Bernal, anyone? The Mexican actor only made one film last year, the Spanish-language No with director Pablo Larraín. Larraín is a well known in his native Chile, which was been the subject of two of his films so far. No is the third in a planned trilogy about his homeland, and it premiered at the Cannes Film Festival this week.

Who's behind it? Director Pablo Larraín rounded up a group of actors he usually works with, including Antonia Zegers and Alfredo Castro, for the project. Bernal came in as his leading man to round out the cast. Sony Pictures Classics has picked up North American distribution rights for No.
What's it about? The picture is set in 1988, the year Chileans were able to vote in a referendum for or against continuing the 16-year dictatorship of Gen. Augusto Pinochet. Gael plays René Saavedra, an ad man who accepts the potentially dangerous job of spearheading the TV campaign for the people against Pinochet - those who will vote "no" in the election. He's tasked with finding a unique and novel way to get the message across. René also has some family issues and is focused on raising a young son after separating from his wife.

The Snow White and the Huntsman costars were up for a variety of fun tasks including a science experiment that required them to wear eye protection and gloves. Their time in Spain wasn't all goofy though, since Kristen and Charlize dressed up for a more serious appearance in Madrid. Kristen's time in front of the cameras will continue when she arrives at the Cannes Film Festival to promote On the Road soon. The festival is already underway and there have been plenty of stars hitting the glamorous red carpet, including Eva Longoria, Diane Kruger, and Marion Cotillard.

Isla Fisher Breaks From Cannes Film Fun to Hit the Park With Her Girls

Isla's husband Sacha Baron Cohen is also making the rounds at the cinema celebration. Sacha's at Cannes as the Dictator and made his usual stir yesterday by arriving on the Croisette atop a camel. He then threw on a swimsuit for a PR stunt on a yacht. Sacha roped a bikini-clad Elisabetta Canalis into horsing around for the cameras.

After a rocky start (it was initially set to start in 1939 but was postponed due to World War II), the inaugural Cannes took place more than 65 years ago on Sept. 20, 1946, making it one of the oldest film festivals to date. What began as a stand against Fascist and Nazi propaganda is now a prestigious, star-studded event.
