Control Your iPod With iMind: For Reals?

Honestly, I wasn't sure if I was getting punk'd again after all the internet April Fool's shenanigans this week, but after a bit of research, I think this is probably just a concept project. In a story posted on the UK's Telegraph this week, a Taiwanese electronics specialist has developed a mind reading headset to control your iPod. Since walking and looking down at your iPod is just too distracting, the iMind allows you to choose what song, or what type of song you want played, just by thinking of it. Kinda like the (real) gaming headset we saw a few months ago, this one gives your brain a direct feed into your iPod, no remotes required.

The iMind uses twenty strategically placed sensors that "read thoughts" and detect tiny facial movements to play your tunes accordingly. To hear more about how it works, just read more

A left eye wink might mean volume up, batting both eyes could mean shuffle, and hey, crinkling your nose might mean skip track. It's all customizable, and totally weird at the same time, which tipped me off that this was a total farce. Michael Brook, editor of T3 magazine got in on the fun, and says the iMind is perfect for those who just need things done faster:

"A godsend for busy commuters, iMind has eliminated the need to painstakingly scroll through your music library in order to find your favourite tracks. In a fast-paced environment, "at the click of a button" just isn't quick enough."

Even if this was real, I think I might be willing to suffer with the task of scrolling through my tracks to find the one I want, rather than wearing this headset and totally messing up my 'do. Would you sport the iMind. . . if it was an actual product, that is?

If there was an award for most innovative and side-splitting faux gadget or techie spoof, this week's winner would be a toss up between the iPhone Shuffle and the iNoPhone, which combines two products – a former Apple mouse and a bluetooth headset into one small and lightweight handheld device. Shown here on the left next to my famous cut out of the "real" iPhone the iNoPhone's end result is, well, nothing short of tremendous.

A loooong time ago, I made the iNo, a project I made after I saw a Stevenote where he introduced the iPod shuffle and the Mac Mini. Now I already had an idea of putting the guts of some MP3-player into an old ADB-mouse, because somehow the old mouse resembled the looks of an iPod. But when Apple introduced an iPod without a screen, I somehow felt a rush and changed my plans overnight into the iNo. I thought “I can go even more minimalistic than an iPod without a screen… How about an iPod without an MP3-player as well?”

Google Perfume: Love It or Leave It?

I happen to love this Google perfume because I think the idea that any man would want to douse his body in the scent of a search engine is hilarious.

While it is clearly a cheap knock-off product, it has that same kitschy appeal of the fake Shuffle from Korea or even the iNoPhone. And where do you find something like that? Perhaps in the fake Google store in Istanbul, Turkey?

If my experience with geeky men is any indication I am gonna guess it smells like a spicy mixture of Cheetos, candy and Play-Doh. Snap!
