It was a busy day in SF yesterday with all eyes on the "It's Only Rock and Roll" event. Not only did Steve Jobs made his triumphant, black turtlenecked return to the keynote stage after taking time off for his health, but iTunes 9 was introduced, and then there were the iPods. Oh, the video and FM tuner enabled iPods.

Where do I begin?! This morning at Apple's "It's Only Rock and Roll" Event here in San Francisco, it was all about the music (a new and improved iTunes) and the iPod (new shuffles, a better iPod Classic, and a new Nano with a builtin video camera to compete with the Flip). Sites like Gizmodo and Engadget were there to catch all of the live coverage, so here's a quick recap .

I can't wait to pick up my own copy of Rihanna's new album, and if you're in the same boat, you'll be happy to hear about this: Rihanna will be performing tracks from her forthcoming record, Rated R, during her London album release party, and is streaming the whole thing live online on Nov. 16. A few lucky fans will also get the chance to win tickets to see the event live and in person from the UK!

I recently read an article about the increase in spending on virtual goods and gifts. According to the piece, analysts estimate that this kind of virtual spending could bring in $1 billion this year in the US alone — and nearly $5 billion worldwide.
From Facebook apps like the popular FarmVille — which allows players to run their own virtual farms — to competitive games like Sorority Life — where players have to dress a group of college sorority sisters to compete with rival sororities — the article explains that players are likely to buy items to improve their performance in the game or to build up a collection of goods that will impress friends.

It's round two for Serena and Blair who square off during the Vanderbilt election. And in an interesting turn of events, Chuck is the one that dishes out the sound advice on how to patch things up! Shocking, I know.

It sounds like everyone is universally excited about the new pricing and specs for the new MacBooks, but one area where I'm hearing different things is in the design. The new MacBooks look like the new Pros, with black glass corner-to-corner around the screen, and black keyboards like the Air has always had. This is obviously different than the old version (still currently available as the $999 entry-level MacBook) that's all white plastic.

It's clear that Steve and Apple are psyched on the new details of the MacBook Pro and MacBook Air, but they're the most proud of their MacBooks.
It's not only the best-selling Mac ever, but it's "one of the best ever products in the industry," says Steve — and it's about to get better. Where to begin?

Steve has just announced the new MacBook Air in addition to the new Pros; the big changes here are in hard-drive size (they've gone up to 120 GB from 80 GB) and graphics — they're now four times as fast.
The size stays the same at a 13.3-inch display; the lower level price is $1,799, and the version with the faster processor and solid state drive is $2,499.
