Moms can be such pushovers. Sometimes all it takes are a few well-chosen words, like "I respect you," to make her day. So if you forgot to send a Mother's Day gift, don't despair: there's still time to send an ecard! Better yet, send one for a good cause.

The Respect Campaign, devoted to the prevention of family violence, has an easy-to-send ecard that gives you plenty of space to tell your mom - or anyone, for that matter - why you look up to her. Upload a few of your best pics into the photo editor, including those of your mom, dad, and brother or sister, and watch her go! I love how TeamSugar member mharvent made Angelina Jolie into a Super Mom, with Brad, Pax, and Zahara as costars!

The only bummer is, if you're an only child, you're gonna have to pretend on this one - there doesn't seem to be a way to delete characters from the animation. But hey, I'm sure mom won't mind seeing your face on both kid's bodies - it's the thought that counts.

Toast to Mom

If you're thinking of sending your mom an ecard this Mother's Day, send one from Toast to Mom. This website is partnering with Clos du Bois - one of my favorite affordable wine makers - to raise money for women's heart disease.

For each sent ecard, Clos du Bois will donate $1 to the cause. The site also has tips for healthy living and some delicious-looking recipes for grilled shrimp with mango salsa and spicy oven fried chicken. I've already sent etoasts to the important mothers in my life and suggest you do the same!

The big day is here, and if you're finding yourself short on time to pick up a mushy stock card from the drug store, you could send a sweet and personalized evalentine to your love to remind them of a special location you both share instead. Thanks to Google Maps, it's super easy to Map Your Valentine.

Just enter your valentine's email address, a location (some ideas may be where you met, where you went on your first date, where he proposed, etc.), and a message to seal the deal. Google will deliver a cute heart-shaped evalentine with your location and message (like you see here). Somehow, you can always count on Google to be on top of the holidays.

Savvy Tip: Be and Save Green With E-Cards

E-cards are great because you can save money and be environmentally friendly by not wasting paper. You may think that sending cards through the Internet loses the personal touch, but I find that the e-cards of today are so interactive and creative that they are really enjoyable to read. I would even say that some e-cards are even better than your standard paper cards, because there's no way a piece of paper can convey the type of humor a video can. Here are two of my favorite e-card sites to visit:

Hallmark: People have been giving and receiving Hallmark cards for as long as I can remember. The bonus is that Hallmark now gives you the option of sending free e-cards to people. They have such a great selection and some truly unique interactive features. You don't have to pay any money to send the cards, but if you want access to a wider collection, you'll have to pay about $10 per year. There's really no need to subscribe, because the free cards are really great. One thing I like about Hallmark.com is that it doesn't spam you with pop-up ads, and the layout of the site is very clean.
JibJab: This is definitely a crowd favorite with my friends. I tried it when it first came out (the service was free back then), and all of us howled with laughter to see a cutout of our friends' faces on tiny bodies doing weird dances or skits. The only downside is you need to pay a subscription fee of $1 a month. But if you pay the fee, you'll be blown away by what you'll be able to do with these cards. Your Mad Men-crazy friend will love you if you place her into a scene with Don Draper on a Jib Jab card. Savvy Professional Tip: Write Your New Year Greetings

First rule of networking: always keep in touch! This means reaching out to your contacts on some major holidays and even their birthdays to show your sincerity in wanting to keep in contact. If you're not keeping up with your communications, you may lose your contacts. And if ever you need their help (perhaps for a job lead), it would look bad if you reach out to them only when you need to call in a favor.

It doesn't even have to require much effort. Start by opening an Excel sheet and writing down all the people you need to keep in touch with as well as all of their details. Don't worry about the tediousness of the task, you'll definitely be using the contact sheet over and over again in the future. Then, all you need to do is craft a generic Happy New Year greeting, and tweak it slightly to personalize it for each recipient. Choose whatever delivery method suits you best - ecards, traditional handwritten cards or emails. No matter how you want to convey your message, your effort will be noted. Remember, New Year greetings are small acts of courtesy that really go a long way!
