There are pros and cons of running with an iPod, but for most of us, it's hard to imagine getting our run on without some sort of background music. I'll admit that I'm a bit of an earphone diva who needs just the right pair: some are too big, some are too small, and some just never manage to stay put in your ears - which can be distracting and frustrating all at the same time. To make your running lives a bit easier, I've compiled a list of some of my all-time favorite stay-put earphones, so you can focus on your run time, rather than your technical difficulties.

After I included a pair of these Skullcandy Smokin Buds in a recent Mother's Day gift guide, I fell in love with them myself! They are affordable - starting at $23 - and come in a range of hot color combos, from my favorite orange and white, to a bright and cheerful pink, blue, and yellow. They even give off a retro-vibe, similar to the new Sony Qlasp earphones we saw last week, and are a nice alternative if you don't have a lot of dough.

No More Slippage With Sony's New Qlasp Earphones

Seriously, there's nothing I hate more than getting into a groove while at the gym - with my running pace and my tunes - then losing it all when my earphones fall out. Can you feel me? I know you can, which is why I am compelled to tell you about the new Sony Qlasp earphones ($25) that actually clip on to your earlobes to keep your heart racing and music pounding.

A simple clip keeps these guys where they belong - on your ears - while you run, bike, skate, or just get to and from work. Plus, the colors are vivid and lively, with just a hint of a retro feel, which I love. Although I don't understand why Sony couldn't just call them "Clasp" instead of confusing everyone with the word "Qlasp." AP style would not approve.

Earphones That I Still Can't Believe Are Only $50

In my day, I've tested out my fair share of earphones. Oddly enough, I'm not one of those people that can wear Apple's standard earphones - call it abnormally shaped ears, I don't know, I just can't wear em'. I definitely have a top three list of earphones that rock my world, but the problem is, they are waaay too expensive. And when I say overpriced, I mean you can't just run out and buy another pair if a) you lose 'em or b) they get trampled on at the gym (it happens).

I talked about Radius last year when they debuted their line of colorful ultra light aluminum earphones; well, this year they're back with a new line of ergonomic, oh so hip, and perfectly-fitting earphones called the Atomic Bass Earphones. Now a pair of these earphones are $50, and I know $50 isn't considered "cheap" but let me tell you, they offer the same sound quality as a $150 pair. If you want a cheap pair that offers zero bass, then pick up a $20 pair, but these ones output sound that is crystal clear and they have bass! Personally, I love me some bass with my tunes and these deliver just the right amount.

And did I mention they fit comfortably in your ear (they come with three different sizes of silicone ear pieces), are available in silver, black, and red and they include a high performance mic?! Yes, they are iPhone 3G friendly indeed.

Ideal Earphones For Kids and Those With Smaller Ears

I can't wait to tell lilsugar about my latest tech discovery - earphones designed with kids' ears in mind. The Loud Enough Earphones ($40) are targeted for kids aged eight and older and feature built-in sound pressure protection that decrease noise up to 40 percent (or 20 decibels). And with their isolation design, kids won't have to crank up the volume so loud when they're playing video games, watching movies, or listening to tunes. They also come with a variety of sizes of (PVC free) soft silicone ear tips, making them perfect for adults with smaller ear canals.

I took a pair for a test drive and expected that the volume would be extremely quiet, the sound quality wouldn't be the same, and therefore, not exactly adult-friendly earphones. If you're one of those people who cranks up your music on full blast, then these are not for you. Personally, I like my music fairly loud, but on my iPhone or iPod, that's really only half of the volume level.

read more. With Loud Enough earphones, the full volume level is what I normally listen to, so you get a decent amount of sound and the quality isn't compromised whatsoever. So overall, it makes sense why they are for kids eight and older - because they don't output as much sound as other earphones, but they would be way too loud for a four or five year old. Would I wear them myself? Absolutely. They are also available in green and purple.
