Last week my mother forwarded me a message from a woman who is a friend of our family and I realized she has a joint e-mail account with her husband. That is to say, her e-mail was her name, plus her husband's name, plus their last name. The address made me question their autonomy and wonder why two smart, independent people would create a joint e-mail account.

The folks over at Switched inform me that AOL just completed a massive survey on e-mail usage throughout the United States, which polled residents of the country's top 20 markets. The results? Forget teaching your Luddite relative to use a computer - maybe you should just transform their low tech device into something more high tech. The 22 Pop is a modified typewriter that can send e-mails. It's called ‘22’ because of the Olivetti typewriter classic, Lettera 22 it is modeled on; ‘pop’ as a reference to the email protocol used.

I have a sister in college who I probably e-mail three to five times a day, but it's a rare, rare occasion that she checks her e-mail before we talk on the phone or text each other. While that may be most predictive of our insane phone bills, it also points to something communications analysts have known for a while: Teens don't like e-mail. According to News.com,
more and more, social networks are playing a bigger role than the cell phone.

Yahoo Mail made the leap from mail service to "social communication" tool yesterday by adding the ability to send text messages to cellphones from e-mail. The company has also made a few changes to its interface so people can navigate between e-mail, instant messaging and text messaging with more ease.
According to USA Today, Yahoo Mail update also adds more sophisticated capabilities to check maps, directions, hotel and travel information directly from the e-mail itself.

Just as the weekly countdown to the release of the iPhone was getting closer some major drama has popped up indicating the iPhone may not be released in June as expected.
Engadget reported that they had "it on authority that as of today, the iPhone launch is being pushed back from June to... October (!), and Leopard is again seeing a delay, this time being pushed all the way back to January."

A few months ago we read a study that said thirty-seven percent of U.S. e-mail users say they are getting more junk in their personal e-mail accounts. Now, we hear that spam is now 83 percent of all e-mail and that number is on the rise.

One of the reasons some people are wary of online dating is that people tend to stretch the truth when describing themselves. Perhaps you can build up a BS detector for embellishments of electronic personalities, but what if the dating prospects were not even real?
That's what happened to New Yorker Sean McGinn, who's suing dating site Match.com for keeping around profiles of former users so that it would look like the site had far more romantic prospects than it did.
