While I've been a Flip fan since the beginning, you can't help but notice the upswing in smartphone use to capture on-the-go videos. Samsung Shows Off New Camcorder Ahead of CES

CES is just days away, and tech companies are champing at the bit to reveal their gadget goodies ahead of the huge Las Vegas expo. Samsung was first out of the gate with its new HMX-Q10 camcorder, which is light, ultra-portable, and comes stocked with some great features.

The tiny Q10 can shoot 1080i HD video and has a flip-open 2.7mm touchscreen that holds all of the controls. Best part is, that little touchscreen control panel is always oriented right-side up, so lefties can flip the camcorder upside down and still see what they're doing. Other features include 4.9MP stills, expandable SDHC memory card, and up to 34 hours of filming time, which makes it perfect for travelers, soccer moms, and vloggers alike. Set for a February 2011 release, expect to throw down $300 for this compact camcorder.

Flip Celebrates Movember With New Camcorder Designs

It seems that pint-sized digital camcorders are all the rage lately, so it's cool to see that some companies are putting their products to good use. Flip Video unveiled a few new moustache designs for its Ultra, Mino, and SlideHD cameras in honor of Movember, a charity that encourages men to grow moustaches in the month of November in order to raise money for men's health and prevention of cancer.

The cameras, which range in price from $149 to $249, come with all the usual specs of a Flip camcorder that you've come to know and love. Oh, and ladies, it's probably easier if you support your favorite man by grabbing one of these, instead of attempting to grow a 'stache of your own. If you try the latter, it may be a cold Movember, indeed.

Flip Updates Its Ultra HD and Mino Camcorders

Last week, HP unveiled a new pocket camcorder to add to the already crowded space, and now pocket cam pioneer Flip is updating its line of offerings. Both the UltraHD and MinoHD camcorders are new and improved, featuring enhanced HD shooting (including image stabilization, which was noticeably missing from past models), more personalization options, and an enhanced version of FlipShare, the program used to import and edit Flip videos on your computer.

Updated models include the UltraHD 1- and 2-hour camcorders, as well as the MinoHD 1- and 2-hour camcorders; get all the details and check out more images of the newest Flips after the jump.

HP Introduces Its Flip Competitor, the V5020u Digital Camcorder

2010 is quickly becoming the year of the portable digital camcorder, and now HP is throwing a new offering into the mix. The V5020u camcorder features 1080p HD recording with image stabilization, 10x digital zoom, and a 2-inch LCD screen. The V5020u also has HDMI output and ships with an included HDMI cable.

The camcorder will be available next month and cost $159, which is slightly less than many other similar models, including the Sony Bloggie and Samsung E10.

Sanyo Ups Its Camcorder Game With the Xacti 102YL

Toss the Sanyo into the ring with the other handheld camcorders on the market today, and it just may be the last one standing. Although I already gave the Kodak Playsport my seal of approval, the new Sanyo Xacti 102YL could just take the cake in terms of specs and power. Both the Playsport and the Sanyo are water-friendly - both models can film in up to 10 feet of water - but the Sanyo tops out at eight hours of full HD video recording, has 64GB of memory space (with help from an SD card or Eye-Fi SD card), takes 14MP stills, supports 5X optical zoom (and 12X double-range zoom), and comes with a 2.7-inch TFT LCD display.

Samsung Releases Super Simple and Stylish SMX-C24

We've seen our fair share of mini HD cameras coming out of CES this week, but there's something different about the Samsung SMX-C24 that I love: simplicity. Although cameras like the Flip and the new Kodak Playsport are fantastically portable, I don't like the fact that you have to install and use their software to upload and edit video. Thankfully, Samsung has sidestepped this common practice and built the editing software straight into the camera. Called the intelli studio, you can edit your videos right from the 2.7" LCD screen, or hook it up to any Mac or PC to play around with. Making things even easier, once you give the C24 your YouTube account info, you're set to go with "one button" uploading. It's that easy.

Add in the 16GB on-board memory, and a comfortable grip made to mimic a natural wrist position, and it's a win all around. The Samsung SMX-C24 would be great for beginning geeks who want to start recording video, moms who want to document their kids' sporting events, and anyone who just wants something simple to capture memories. No prices or release date yet, but you can look for the C24 to land in two colors - red and blue.

The New 8GB Flip MinoHD Features a Bigger Two-Inch Screen

Familiar with all of the pocket-sized Flip Video Cameras? Well the tiniest of the Flip family - the Flip Mino - has just introduced a new camera to its Flip MinoHD line.

You can now pick up a new MinoHD for $230 which can record up to 120 minutes of footage (which is double the time from the previous version) and it features a new 2-inch anti-glare display.

The 120 min MinoHD is currently only available in brushed metal, but after Nov. 9, you'll be able to personalize your new Mino with an image of your own or one from The Flip's design gallery.

The Samsung HD Pocket Camcorder Competes With the Flip

Since the debut of the pocket sized Flip digital camcorder over two years ago, there have since been many similar devices to hit the market (like the Kodak Zx1), but up until now, there hasn't been one that really stands out.

Well Samsung has just announced their new HMX-U10 compact camcorder and it's already gaining attention from Flip fans. With its high def capturing functionality, the ability to take 10 megapixel stills, and a built-in video editing application, the U10 has everything you could want in a pocket cam.

Other notable features include a 2-inch LCD display and a one-touch option for uploading videos to YouTube. . . although no word of included fancy schmancy video editing software.

These cameras are making their way to the UK in September, so I'm assuming they'll be stateside by Christmas. Rumored pricing is said to be around $200 each.
