The diamond ring is part of an age-old proposal tradition that can get quite pricey, so here are some tips from Smart Money that may help you save up to thousands on your engagement ring:

Almost a Carat: Diamond prices shoot up after the one-carat mark and every quarter carat after so you can save a lot if you buy a diamond that is close to the carat mark. You can save thousands if you choose to buy a .99-carat over a one-carat diamond.
Wait It Out: Diamonds that are just shy of the carat mark sell out quickly so you might not be able to find one if you had a limited time span. Give yourself more time to shop around and wait it out, and you might just be able to find a gem of a deal.
React Fast: You've been hunting around for a while and you finally find a good deal, but you need to snap it up before someone else does. As these diamond deals are going quickly, you need to buy it as soon as you can. But remember not to get carried away, and to make sure it fits your budget.

Maria Serves up Diamond-Encrusted Cameras by Canon

Tennis star Maria Sharapova is quite the busy gal. Already one of the faces of Canon's PowerShot cameras, she now lends herself to a line of new cameras - the limited edition Canon Powershot Diamond Collection cameras.

To kick off the new collection, Canon is giving away five diamond-studded PowerShot SD1100 cameras (find contest on right side of the page) which feature 88 white diamonds totaling 2.22 carats each around the lens.

I can't imagine that these cameras come cheap, so even if you aren't thrilled about the idea of having a blinged-out camera, just imagine how much it's worth (hello - eBay?!).

If you had your pick between diamond earphones or a gold-plated Nano with Swarovski crystals, what would you choose? Featured on Engadget, the bedazzled earphones are designed by Mr. Thomas Heyerdahl of Heyerdahl Jewelery and are made of 18-karat gold, set with a total of 204 diamonds. Whereas the Nano is 14-karat gold plated and includes only 80 hand-set Swarovski crystals. The earphones are priced at $6,400 whereas the Nano only costs $125. What do you think?

Given as a gift to Boy Genius' friend, you can't help but wonder how much it was and how much it weighs! Cell Phone Bling Worth $850,000

There's hip-hop bling bling, old school bling bling, antique bling bling and now, cell phone bling bling? Famous Japanese jewelers Diaddict has put a 100 million yen ($850,000) diamond-decorated mobile phone strap in their Nihombashi department store of Takashimaya Co.

The one-of-a-kind strap is iced with a 6.02-carat yellow diamond, a 0.61-carat blue diamond, a 0.36-carat pinkish diamond and a total of 2.10 carat in colorless diamonds.

According to Luxury Launches, many shoppers stop to admire the beautiful diamond decorated strap. All frivolity aside, it is an incredibly beautiful diamond, but imagine how dramatic the buyer will be every time she picks up the phone.
