BeadBoard Outlet Desk: Love It or Leave It?

Used to be (well, still is), you had a desk and you just figured out how to plug your electronic life into it, particularly laptop cords and such. Nowadays you can get furniture that's built for such modern uses, like Pottery Barn's Beadboard Space Saving Desk ($500), which features a five-plug outlet in the cabinet.

It's like having a charging station built in to your desk, and the drawers slide both ways, so there's no jerry-rigging necessary to get your tech organized on it. The only thing is that I'm not in love with this rustic look. What do you think?

There's no fighting it - back to school time is here. I've already shown you ways to stylishly carry your laptop, ways to make your studying environment more ergonomic, and which gadgets to toss in your new Fall bag, so here's a simple and cheap way to keep your dorm nice and neat.

From Ikea (one of my favorite places to shop, by the way), this PS Laptop Workstation ($60) allows you to get your term paper written without having to use your bed as a work station, and keeps all your desk essentials in one compact space. Plus, you can keep prying eyes away with the included lock, and since it's off the ground (attaching securely to your wall), you'll free up more floor space for that ever-important mini fridge.

One Less Desk Is One More Desk I Want

I have a hard time keeping my desk clean already, but this desk would have a problem staying clear of my drool. It's that pretty. Sure, it's spare and simple, but it's not lacking in the right kind of details.

With One Less Desk ($650), you get a clean, great-looking desk with a tiny footprint - and instead of a keyboard tray or taking up more space, there's a second, lower "deck" for your keyboard, mouse pad, and other peripherals. And when you look at the rear, you find built-in nooks and crannies to wrap your cables around before things get out of control and you need to outsource to extra things like this!

And let's state the obvious: This desk was built for Macs. Available in Apple white or gray, you can match or contrast with a MacBook or MB Pro (even the vents are the same!). But PCs could still rock this, if they're warming to that Mac look a little, hmmm?

Ludvig Joins My Roster of Ikea Things I Cannot Live Without

Another day, another awesome geek product provided by Ikea. What is it with this place lately? It's like it wants you to always have a convenient spot to put your laptop! We've got Dave for couch laptopping and Bräda for bed laptopping, so Dave and Bräda, meet your new brother, Ludvig the laptop desk ($70).

Unlike his predecessors, Ludvig isn't portable; he's a stationary piece of furniture for either your laptop (and a hot-looking one, I might add), or per Ikea's own suggestion, a charging station.

Bonus points to Ikea for having no shortage of inexpensive products for home gadgets. Double bonus points for giving them human names so I can personify them in my posts. It's kicky!

Connect-a-Desk: Totally Geeky or Geek Chic?

The Connect-a-desk is not the first time I've seen a desk-free laptop desk - remember the Lindo wrap-around hip desk? That was voted "freakish" by a landslide, and ThinkGeek's version hasn't really made the concept any more palatable.

For 40 bucks, you get the ability to walk around while using your laptop, but for $40, you may suddenly not know yourself anymore.

It's not that it can't be useful - the question is really - is usefulness worth the price of your dignity? But am I being too harsh? What do you think?

Ikea's Cheap, Petite Mikael - Can I Call You Mike?

Since I'm on an Ikea kick with the Benno faux-mount TV stand, I thought I'd bring you another useful piece of home tech.

The Mikael desk would fit right into my place - I still love the convenience of my Dave stand, but sometimes I really get more done sitting at a desk.

And though the pic shows how great the Mikael is for a desktop computer, I'd use it for my laptop, and totally increase the usefulness - when I'm not laptopping, I can do my bills there or use it for my sewing machine!

And seriously - 40 bucks?! Great for a small apartment, dorm, or small budget. In red, birch, pink, blue, white, and dark brown.

AMP Speaker/Desk: Love It or Leave It?

I had to do a double take when I learned that this AMP speaker system by Pieter Maes could also be used as a desk. Is it just me or does the white laptop look like a DS Lite? I literally thought the desk was two feet tall and totally impractical-I could easily throw in a Zoolander quote here but I'll keep this one kind. Featured on Gizmodo, the AMP speaker works with both iPod's and laptops. With an internal amplifier, all you need to do is hook up your portable music device via the audio jack and start playing your music. Considering this is actually a decent sized desk, it gets two thumbs up in my book. No word on pricing. What do you think? Let me know below!

Do You Keep Personal Photos On Your Work Desk?

To be honest, I actually don't have any photos on my desk. It's not that I'm consciously trying to keep my workzone "personal pic free," its just that I'm a total clutterphobe who tries to keep desktop items to a bare minimum. I swear I'm open to the possibility of having a simple frame with a photo or two. The folks over at Dating Dames recently said having personal photos on your desk can give a boss or fellow employees a glimpse of your personal life, and have therefore decided to keep their personal lives separate from the office. Now I want to know your two cents: Do you keep a photo of friends, family and flames on your desk at work?Source

Totally Geeky or Geek Chic? iGo Mac Desk

Have you seen these new minimalistic iGo desks for the iMac and Mac mini? At first I thought the zero desk space is just a bad idea, but then I realized that most of my calendars, planners, to do lists and notes are now on the computer anyways. Ranging in price from $333 to $500, the iGo desk is now available for iMac G4 and 17" and 20" iMac (Intel Core Duo and G5). I do think its versatility is pretty cool as it has a cinematic display that allows you to swirl and squeeze it into any space. What are your thoughts?

Sexy Mini Desk - My Geeky Valentine

I spotted this adorably fantastic Mini Desk on Uncrate and just had to share it. While the price hasn't been determined yet, the design is made from an original British mini and can be hand-built to meet your specifications or needs.

You get to choose the color of the desk top, car color, rims, tires, and license plates. According to Uncrate, it also features a stereo in the dash with speakers in the parcel shelf, and fully working headlamps, hazards, and spotlights. Ever since the Mini Cooper announced its talking billboards I have been obsessed with them. I suppose having one on the street would be more exciting than having one in my office, but still, pretty snazzy.
