UBoard Desk Shelf: Love It or Leave It?

I just spotted this shelf over on CrunchGear, and I must admit, I love it. The UBoard USB board and shelf ($50) features a glass top and three USB ports on its side. There's even a cup holder that attaches to the side!

I don't know that I'd use the cup holder, but I like the idea of a clear shelf that goes over my keyboard, and the USB ports are pretty convenient. What do you think?

A Place For Everything and Everything in Its Place: BackPack

OK, so I know aesthetics aren't everything, but even though I bought myself a nice-looking external hard drive to back up all my data, sometimes I just want to find a safe place to keep it out of the way and off my clean desk. If this sounds familiar to you, and you have an iMac or a cinema display, listen up: the BackPack is here to save you.

The BackPack attaches to the backside of your iMac's stand, and is height adjustable, so you can secure two or maybe even three shelves on the back of your machine. Store your external, your phone or iPod while they charge, or even a USB hub for more plug-in ports. And don't worry about scratches - there's no drilling or screws involved. I'm all about saving and utilizing space to the max, and for $30 bucks, you know I've got this on this year's back-to-school list.

Geek Tip: Make Your Workstation a Little More Ergonomic

It doesn't take much to make your home workstation a little more body friendly. So before you head back to school this Fall, add a few ergonomic touches to your home office. I have professed my love for the Ikea Dave Laptop stand many times before, so if you must work in front of the tube (like yours truly), put it on a stand and not on your lap! Add a desk lamp to save your eyes, and either an amazing chair or a fitness ball (or both!) to save your back and shoulders. Also, make sure you have a pretty keyboard wrist rest to prevent typing fatigue.

If You Can't Beat 'Em, Join 'Em: CableDrop Cable Organizers

If all of your desktop cords refuse to magically become invisible as you secretly wish they would, then you can at least put them in their place with these cable holders from Bluelounge. The adhesive Cabledrop organizers ($10) are just the thing to keep your power, Ethernet, firewire, and usb cords all in one place - and not fall behind your desk - while you stay mobile on your laptop, or keep your desk neat while you work on your trusty desktop.

Coming in a pack of six, the CableDrops aren't just limited to your peripherals - you can use them to wrangle your electric cords, pens, and even secure your headphones to your monitor so you don't lose them to the depths of your desk drawer.

Seven Essentials For Your Home Office

It doesn't take me long to get ready in the morning, but I can totally see the appeal of working from home - roll out of bed, make your coffee, and fire up the laptop to get your day started. And although the idea of telecommuting has been around since the 80's (I know, like forever), the current state of affairs is making working from home more attractive to businesses and employees alike. Not only does it cut down on operation costs, but telecommuting has been proven to raise morale. So if your boss has allowed you to sever your office apron strings, you're going to need a functional home office. Here are seven things I'd want in mine.

Speak-er Speech Bubble Speakers Are Totally Hot

Can you hear me now? It's rare that I come across something that has me tossing all reasoning out the window, and immediately reaching for my credit card. When I first saw this pair of six-watt Speak-er speech bubble speakers ($120), I knew I had to have them. Unfortunately for us, they are going to be sold in limited quantities and won't be sent out until April! I want them now!

I guess I'm just hoping that maybe, just maybe, out of all the geeks in the world that will have these on their wish lists, that I can get my hands on a set of these babies. A girl can dream, no?

If someone you know is a slave to her cube, then you can't go wrong with giving an awesome office or desk-centric gift this holiday. But let's be honest, no one wants the main gift to sit on a desk at work, so make it a stocking stuffer instead. Yes, stocking stuffer. Since you're busy buying gifts to go under your perfectly trimmed tree, let this serve as a reminder that there is some expectation to fill those fuzzy socks you hung up - they aren't just for show. I'm just sayin'. Check out my picks for some awesome office-minded stocking stuffers in this slideshow.

And for more gift ideas, make sure you check out HolidaySugar!

Relief From Old Building Syndrome: USB Gloves

So what can you do, other than huddle by the heat of your desktop? Get some USB Heated Gloves, that's what.

The good part about these USB gloves is the open fingers that will still allow you to type up that TPS report in no time, since there's no fabric hindering your keystrokes.

Plus, you can heat each one individually (you know, in case your right hand is colder than your left) and connect them to your PS2 and Xbox 360 for toasty, warm gaming. And for only $25 bucks, they may even make a funny stocking stuffer for the zombie-handed female in your life! You know who I mean.

Oh, and for using your iPhone in the cold weather? Well, that's when you pick up a pair of these classy gloves.

USB Desk Lamp: Love It or Leave It?

These days I tend to just look for a desk lamp that can do what it's supposed to do: light up. Even when it has a nice second feature, like this lamp/iPod dock, I just want a utilitarian lamp.

But I could totally ignore all that for this USB Desk Lamp by Japanese Design firm Conof, which provides light and spare USB ports? Plus, I just love that cool C-shape - and the lamp head also rotates 270 degrees. Doesn't look like pricing is available yet, but I'm wishing and hoping for a green one.

But what do you think? Is it modern cool or just modern cold?
