Geek Tip: Follow Flickr Streams Via RSS or Delicious

Sure, following Tweets secretly through your RSS allows a special, stalkerish pleasure, but watching your friend's Internet activity doesn't have to be all about surreptitiousness. When a pal shares a link to her Flickr account or I run across a photographer whose work I find inspiring I stick it in my RSS reader so I can keep up with their activity.

Flickr offers an RSS feed for photostream pages, which you select and add to your reader. You'll find it in the toolbar of your browser if you use Firefox (see previous link for other browser tips). Flickr also offers a convenient "bookmark on delicious" link at the bottom of each photostream page, so you can save a friend's stream in your bookmarks and have access to it from any computer.

Oh Delicious, I almost (I said almost) forgot about you, and then you go and do something brilliant - you get a very much needed makeover! I was seriously considering walking away from all of my favorite bookmarks, or at least moving them to a much more user-friendly site, but alas, you pull though with a fresh new name (minus all the . and . 's), a slick new UI and a much faster search engine - nice work! And the best part about the new look? The big and beautiful notes fields that you can either change to reveal more bookmark info or compact their display with a single click on the Tag Bar!

How To Make Your Del.icio.us Stuff Private

So you've got all these great links and articles stored on your del.icio.us network and as much as you love to share them with the world, there are some times when you want to keep things private and hide your network from other del.icio.us users.

Here are some instructions to help you keep your network private:

Log onto your account at www.del.icio.us/
Click the blue "your network" button at the top of the home page
Click the "network setting" button on your network page.
Follow the instructions for making your network private

Voila! All your neat finds should be private now. If you decide that you want people to see your network again, just follow the steps again to reverse.

Yummy! I mean, innovative. This felt Bacon and Eggs iPhone Case ($35) is making me hungry for my favorite breakfast-time combo, and want to protect my iPhone at the same time.

From the same maker of the equally delicious Bacon iPhone Case, whose many variations hit the Internet a few months ago, hard, the bacon and eggs version is a little more balanced, but no less offbeat.

As far as I can see, I'm not tiring of novelty cases yet, though my own is pretty plain Jane by comparison. Don't know if I'd put a meal around my cell phone - would you?

Yummy! The codenames for Google's smartphone OS, Android, continue to get more delicious: The first iteration is "Cupcake" (the favorite dessert of many a young woman) and the next codename is also tasty-sounding - or is it ridiculous?

Typewriter Laptop Sleeve: Love It or Leave It?

Since this isn't the first typewriter-printed laptop bag I've seen (that honor goes to this red one), I have to note the delicious irony that's having a moment.

The irony, of course, is that of depicting an old-school typewriter on a vessel that transports a new-school computer. Yes, it seems that you can have it both ways: retro and modern.

This Typewriter Print Laptop Sleeve ($35) from the MoMA Store is cashing in on this juxtaposition, and I can't complain; the cool blue and hot orange look stunning together.

But is it pushing a theme too far, or is the laptop/typewriter thing still a cool pairing?

Geek Out: Do You Ever Suffer Social Networking Anxiety?

I'm more hilarious than my tweets. My life is more fascinating than my Facebook updates. My Internet activity is more diverse than my Delicious account might suggest. But don't get me wrong, I adore social networking.

It's an hourly addiction, lighthearted medium for expression, and a fast, cheap, and satisfying way of interacting with friends and strangers around the globe. But every once in a while when I step back and look at my activity, followers and friends on the bajillion networks I belong to I worry about the trail I am leaving and the reputation I've inadvertently created online. My "real life" friends know my greatness outside the Internet, but are there strangers, co-workers and acquaintances judging me based on my scattered thoughts and tweets? All signs point to yes.

Social networking has fundamentally changed the way we date and interact with others - for better and for worse. Do you take it all in stride and just let loose, or do you stress over the wacky images and tidbits you put out there?

Incipio's iPod Shuffle Wafer Cases Are Good Enough to Eat

It's rare for me to actually describe an iPod case as mouthwatering, but that's exactly what Incipio's Wafer dermaSHOT Case is ($15). Naturally, it's not edible, but it just looks like a delicious treat.

The case, which works only with the iPod Shuffle's latest generation, is available in chocolate, strawberry, or vanilla . . . oops, I mean brown, pink, or yellow. The silicone will protect your little iPod, and your diet, possibly; I just don't think it would taste very good.
