Meet Colorware's First Physical Product: The Grip For iPad

Colorware, known for expertly transforming computers and other gadgets into colorful creations, announced its first standalone product. The Grip For iPad is an iPad case doubling as an easy-to-carry handle. The case comes in three versions: for a Colorware-painted Gloss iPad, for a Colorware-painted Softtouch iPad, and a non-Colorwared iPad.

The handles are made in Minnesota from aluminum, and you can customize the design of your Grip with all of Colorware's colorful options, and when paired with a Colorware-painted iPad, the result really is beautiful. Unfortunately, the Grip comes with a similar pricetag as a Colorware paint job; one Grip costs $300 and apparently does little to protect the device.

Geek Out: Do You Have Trouble Choosing Gadget and Accessory Colors?

This seems a silly and embarrassing problem to have, but I have the hardest time when it comes to choosing a gadget color if there is more than one option. It doesn't matter if it's a gadget that costs hundreds of dollars or a simple $20 case - I agonize over the decision for far too long. I won't even admit how many times I went back and forth over the color of my iPhone - and if I were ever to drop some serious cash on Colorware-ing my gadgets, the decision would be agonizing.

Does anyone out there suffer from the same problem? Do you have a go-to color when it comes to gadgets? I tend to gravitate toward white since it's clean and neutral, but with so many color options, I'm often stumped.

Colorware Customizes the iPad

If there's a new gadget hitting stores, chances are Colorware isn't far behind, announcing they're ready to splash it with color. After all, they've colored everything from Wiis to iPhones. Now, they're taking on the iPad. If you already own one, it'll cost you $400 to have it colored. You can also buy an iPad from them directly, starting at $900 for a 16GB model with WiFi. There are nearly 50 colors of different sheens to choose from, or for an additional $250, you can request a custom color. You can choose up to three colors; one for the body, one for the Apple logo, and a third for the button.

While the idea of a bright orange iPad seems kind of incredible to me, I'm afraid my favorite color will change long before I'm ready to give up the iPad. And the price - yikes! When I'm ready to pony up the dough for an iPad, I can't imagine wanting to spend another $400 to customize it. Though, it's far less excessive and a bargain compared to this $20,000 diamond-encrusted version.

Colorware Now Available For the iPhone 3G!

As geeked out as I was when Steve Jobs first announced the iPhone 3G and the new colors, I still remember feeling a little let down that we only got to choose from a black or white option, as exciting as those colors may be. Since my pulse quickened when I read the rumor that there may be a red iPhone, I knew I wouldn't be satisfied with the Oreo-color option for long!

Thankfully, Colorware, those artists who custom-color your gadgets (check out this pink BlackBerry Curve a TeamSugar user had "colorwared"), has just announced that they are ready to start colorwaring the iPhone 3G! Looking at the images on the site, I'm in love - and deciding what will go best with my Fall wardrobe!

Custom-Colored Cell Phones: Totally Geeky or Geek Chic?

Starting next Monday Colorware, the color-customizing gadget experts will be coloring BlackBerry curves, pearls and 8800 series cell phones. Colors that are already posted on the site include red, purple, green and yellow and although the prices aren't posted, The Boy Genius Report guesstimates that they shouldn't be more than $99. Do you like these colored phones? Would you ever get your phone "colorized"?

ColorWare Color-Customizes New Apple Products

Unlike other companies which offer to spray paint or tattoo your gadgets, ColorWare purchases brand new electronics and colors them with a proprietary coatings system. So instead of covering your new nano with a blue plastic case, you can order it directly from ColorWare in whatever hue you want. With about twenty-nine standard colors to choose from and thousands of color combinations, you are guaranteed to have a unique Apple nano, iPod touch, iPod or iPhone. Usually I wait until I get sick of the manufacturers color before I buy a new bright case, so I don't know if this is something I'd go for. But then again, the idea of having a turquoise and purple iPhone is kinda fun. Wondering what the price differentiation is? Well to give you an idea, an 8GB iPod Touch costs $299 from Apple, whereas a customized iPod Touch from ColorWare costs $395. But then again, it does come personally designed by you!
