On Tuesday, Google announced the launch of its new Chrome OS, which will be available for consumers next year.
Google's operating system will compete with OS X, Windows, and Linux, and promises to be open source and lightweight. Google says that it will first come to netbooks, and if it's as quick as the "lightweight" term promises, you can bet I'll be getting my hands on it as soon as I can.

Even though I haven't converted to using the Chrome browser (where's my Mac support?), I'm fascinated by Chrome Experiments, a place for its engineers to play around with JavaScript. In this video, they've created "Google Gravity," which reminds me a lot of their Japanese ad for Chrome that I also loved. Check it out.

This promo video for using Google Chrome will make you smile, if in fact you smile at things that are truly adorable and charming (but without being too twee; this is a strong new browser from Google, after all). Whether it will make you want to abandon your current browser or not, I don't know.

Dilemma! What's a Google-devoted but equally Firefox-loving geek to do? When Google broke the news over the holiday weekend that they were releasing a new browser called Chrome, I was excited, but also a little guilty-feeling since I use and adore Firefox.

I'm all about sprucing up my tech — case in point, I'm still drooling over these smartphone wallpapers. Google is always satisfying my customization appetite with its iGoogle Themes and Gmail Themes and it has done it again with its newest Google Chrome themes. With themes from designers like Ella Moss, Anna Sui, Karim Rashid, and Kate Spade (all shown here), as well as many more to choose from, you can be sure your Chrome broswer will never look blah again.

I'm all about making my own iPhone or cell stand out of random objects, but if you want more of a traditional (read: new) and purposeful item, check out the sleek Philippi Mobile Phone Panel ($26).
This handy chrome desk accessory props up your cell so you can watch TV shows, make for easy viewing of your Twilight clock, or keep an obsessive eye out for any signs of a ring. It also works as a stand for your iPod or MP3 player so you can rock your tunes upright to quickly and easily check the titles of songs, or flip through your playlists.

If my tutorial sideshow about what Lomo cameras are all about gave you a sudden interest in the retro cameras, now is a good time to get in on the action — Urban Outfitters has two new Lomos in shiny, shiny chrome.
The Diana F+ Camera Chrome Edition one-ups the original black and turquoise Diana and comes in at $90 with a matching flash.
Meanwhile, the Lomography Fisheye 2 Chrome Edition, on the right ($110), is plastic like the chrome Diana, but its rendering makes it look metal, doesn't it?
