A WHO Report Says Cell Phone Use Leads to Brain Tumors

Cell phone use causing cancer - certainly not something we haven't heard before and not something that is going away anytime soon. First we learn that the electromagnetic radiation from cell phones doesn't cause cancer and when I asked you if you were worried about your cell phone increasing your risk of getting cancer, most of you said no.

The latest news? Well it doesn't get more legit than the World Health Organization, who have been working on a ten-year investigation called Interphone to see if there were any correlations between prolonged cell phone use and brain tumors. According to CNN the study will be published by the end of the year, and did reveal that those who had cell phones for 10 years or longer had the strongest risk of tumors.

And another recent study in the Journal of Clinical Oncology supports the link between cell phone use and tumors as well. The CNN article states:

Studies that looked at people who had used cell phones 10 years or longer tended to find the strongest risk of tumors. Researchers found that cell phone users had a 10 percent to 30 percent higher risk than people who barely, if ever, used this technology.

They also touch on Bluetooth devices, which aren't as harmful, but could cause tumors if worn on your ear all day. I don't know about you, but whenever I know I'm going to have a long cell phone conversation, I make sure to pop in my ear piece (not a Bluetooth) so that my phone isn't glued to my head for a couple of hours.

What do you think? Would you consider changing your cell phone habits after learning about these findings?

Do You Worry About Your Cell Phone Being a Cancer Risk?

Every few months, it seems there's a new study saying that cell phones do or don't cause cancer. Today, they're saying it does. The new study is from a Pittsburgh doctor, warning folks to limit their use because of a possible link between cell phones and cancer.

Dr. Ronald B. Herberman circulated a memo warning that not only are the electromagnetic fields a risk to the user, but cautions people when using phones in a public place, like the bus, so that you don't expose others as well.

I don't want to seem like I'm not taking it seriously or being an alarmist, but what exactly is limited usage? Should we retain our dwindling landlines so we don't have to talk on cell phones at home, or is it chronic gabbers that are at risk? Either way, if I stressed about all the things that might kill me, frankly, I'd die of stress. So for now, I'm going to let it ride. What about you?

The DVD That Refuses to Be Ignored

Look, I am totally mature. But I still teeheeheed at this CD and case, although what it actually is is no laughing matter.

The breast-inspired design is for a great cause; the DVD promotes breast cancer awareness. The left, and empty side represents what happens when you don't check your breast health, while the DVD encourages insertion into a player to find out how. Either way, it's definitely creative and, uh, titillating.

Throughout the rest of the month, Kelly will be encouraging people to help fund research for a cure by donating money by either texting "Kelly" to 85944 or by visiting Kelly Confidential.

I'm sure Kelly will keep us posted on the text-a-thon progress via her new favorite microblogging site - Twitter!

Geek Out: Let's Find Pink Gadgets For Breast Cancer Awareness Month

As you probably already know, October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, which is the time of year companies typically release limited edition pink devices as a way of showing support and giving back to breast cancer research.

I've shared the special edition pink shuffle from Target as well as the pink Sony Vaio (seen at right) with you, but I figure there are plenty of other limited edition gadgets and gizmos out there that I haven't seen yet.

I'd like to put together a list of the best Breast Cancer Awareness gadgets on the web and I need your help. All you have to do is search the web and bookmark them. Make sure to tag your finds with "Gadgets for Breast Cancer Awareness" and tell us why you like them. Also, make sure a portion of the sales of the device go toward breast cancer research and that it's not just a pink gadget. Then check back to geeksugar next week to see if I featured your picks.

To learn how to bookmark your finds on our site, click here. To see some of my favorite online stores, read more

It would be impossible for me to call out all the fantastic pink gizmos and gadgets that are giving a portion of their proceeds to breast cancer research, so I asked you readers to help me find the best items by bookmarking them.

You readers came up with some great finds, which are both cute and crucial to finding a cure. I like that the items range in price so you can do your part by purchasing Pink Post Its, $10, or the more flashy Polaroid A520 Pink digital camera, $80.

One of my favorite items is the 6GB Seagate Pink Pocket Hard Drive, which was bookmarked by glam sugar. When you buy the drive Seagate sends 10 percent of its $99 price to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

We debuted the Pink Ribbon DS Lite this morning, and now Sony is getting in on the action for the second year in a row with pink laptop bundles. The Sony VAIO CR pack includes a 14.1-inch LCD screen, a Core 2 Duo CPU, a built-in DVD burner, and a matching case and mouse, while the VAIO SR comes with a 13.3-inch LED backlit display and up to 320GB of HDD space.
Sony Thinks Pink In The Name of Cancer Prevention

There's a rift between pink gadget lovers and haters. Most of us hate when manufacturers use rosy hues in a lame, 18th Century attempt at attracting attention from females, but then again, some pink gadgets are just plain cute.

Pink also happens to be the color of Breast Cancer Awareness and as the official Breast Cancer Awareness Month approaches, retailers across the country, including Sony VAIO, are joining the fight to find a cure for breast cancer by creating special editions of some of their bestselling products.

This October, Sony VAIO will donate $100,000 from the proceeds of a limited time Sony VAIO pink bundle that includes a VAIO Pink CR Series notebook accompanied by a pink mouse and pink carrying case. The laptop is $1,250 and is available on SonyStyle.com and Sony Style stores. It also happens to be the same computer Daniel Craig used as James Bond in Casino Royale. Of course, his was a little more camouflaged.

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Canon is increasing pink awareness with their Canon Pink Bundle ($280), which features a PowerShot SD1100 IS Digital ELPH camera, and the SELPHY CP760 Compact Photo Printer, both in a pink melody hue. You'll also get a pink ribbon charm and a mammogram reminder magnet to help promote their pink campaign. What I love about this pink product bundle is the fact that you can print your pics from the cam, without having to connect to a computer - just pop in your memory card to preview, display and print!

Pink on My Gadgets Isn't Always a Bad Thing

I have a love-hate relationship with the color pink, especially on my gadgets. I like sporting the color on occasion, but I don't like how tech manufacturers think that women only like their gadgets glossed in the feminine hue. Thankfully, I can totally get behind the pink ribbon movement that supports breast cancer research, and subsequently use it as an excuse to buy another DS. What? It's to fight cancer!

For a limited time, Nintendo is rolling out a Pink Ribbon DS Lite that supports cancer research and awareness. For each Pink Ribbon DS that's purchased, Nintendo will donate $5.00 to the Susan G. Komen For The Cure research fund, with a whopping $100,000 minimum promised. If there's any reason to go out and splurge on a new DS for yourself or the women in your life, I'm thinking this is your shot! You can get your own on Amazon and in stores on October 19.
