I'm kind of a timer fanatic. I set my timer when I put my laundry in the wash, I set my timer when I put the chicken in the oven . . . you get my point. So when I found out about this free BlackBerry timer download, I knew my life wouldn't be the same without it. The Countdown Timer For BlackBerry is a simple app that gives you handy timer functionality on your BB. It also includes a 2.5-second vibrate that lets you know when your time is almost up.

To get it on your phone, just open this link on your BlackBerry browser, and a pop up should appear for the download to begin.

Similar to my desktop wallpaper, I like to keep my BlackBerry's wallpaper beautiful as well. What is currently adorning my BB's screen? A beautiful floral design wallpaper from the Kindred website which I manually resized to fit my screen perfectly.

FlyCast 2 Is Ready For Download on the BlackBerry

Pandora coming to the BlackBerry was a pretty big deal, and now FlyCast has just released its beta version of FlyCast 2 for the BlackBerry.

What's offered in this version is enhanced stability, Twitter integration, iBlackBerry Curve 8900 support, and station caching. You can even use it in landscape mode on a BlackBerry Storm.

Pandora for the BlackBerry is rocking my world, but I look forward to downloading FlyCast 2 and taking it for a test drive.

Turn Your BlackBerry Into a Flashlight With This BB App

You know the bright light that flashes on the back of your BlackBerry Bold, Curve, or Tour whenever you take a photo or video footage? Well this light can actually be used for more than just a camera flash - it can be used as a flashlight thanks to this BlackBerry App!

The Flashlight One Touch uses your phone's video camera (without the recording turned on) and the light on the back of your phone to provide you with a handy flashlight. Once you download the app - which you can take for a trial run for free, or pay $3 for the full version - just open your video camera, click on the menu button and choose options. Then set "Video Light" to on and your light will always work when you open the video camera. To turn off the flashlight, just hit the back (or escape) key.

Also, turn off the Auto-Dim setting (in options). . . this does not affect your back light from going out.

Does Foursquare Equal Overshare?

I recently realized that my days spent planning an evening out with friends seem to be fewer and far between. Our ability to stay in constant communication with each other via text, Twitter, Facebook, and more means there's no need to plan ahead. Instead I find myself saying, "Just text me when you get there," and creating our plan on the fly.

The latest addition to the ever-growing lists of constant-contact facilitators is Foursquare, recently profiled by The New York Times. Users of the social networking site can share their current location with friends in real time. The free service is designed for use on the go, and in addition to its web-based presence has BlackBerry and iPhone applications available for download. The service is based on check-ins: when you arrive at a location (a restaurant, store, bus stop, wherever), you "check in," disclosing your location to friends. Check-ins earn you points; a series of check-ins at certain places (three places with a photo booth or 50 unique venues, for example) earn you coveted merit badges. Add tips and to-do lists with any location, and read other Foursquare users' tips and lists when checking into a new place. This isn't a new concept - Foursquare founders built the idea from Dodgeball, a now-defunct service that used SMS messaging to alert friends of your whereabouts. And services like Latitude and Loopt provide similar location-based services.

Foursquare launched in March and is now available in 35 cities from New York to Vancouver to London.

Facebook For the BlackBerry Gets Some New Features

Talk about keeping up with the Joneses! Before I've even had the chance to download the new Facebook iPhone app, RIM has been putting the finishing touches on their latest Facebook update for the BlackBerry, which is said to be making its release in the upcoming weeks.

If I am going to visit FB on my phone, I prefer to use my iPhone, so I haven't even tested out the goodies from the last BB update. Features for this 1.7 update are said to include faster page loading, a new profile view option, and the ability to filter news feeds.

Last but Not Least: Yelp For the BlackBerry

I don't know if Yelp is very popular in your neck of the woods, but here in San Francisco, it's one of those sites that everyone uses. Whether you're trying to find the address of a restaurant or are looking for a decent dry cleaner near your office, Yelp delivers the goods and then some.

Being both an iPhone and BlackBerry girl, I usually do all of my yelping from my iPhone, but good news today, folks: Yelp has just launched a BlackBerry Yelp app. The app will let you search for nearby businesses, read reviews, and access a moveable map that is surprisingly powered by Bing and not Google.

Simply Sync Up Your Google Goods on Your BlackBerry

Want to access your Google calendar events on your BlackBerry? Or what about sync up your phone's contacts with your Gmail contacts so you have a backup if you ever lose your phone? Easy peasy thanks to Google Sync for the BlackBerry, which has been around for some time now, but I realize not everyone knows about its fabulosity.

Just go to http://m.google.com/sync on your BlackBerry's browser and then click on the Download Google Sync link. Once you arrive there, click on Get link and then download. The BB sync icon will then be on your home screen. Once you click on the icon, enter your Google Account username and password. From there, left click on the button beside your scroll wheel and click on options to set what tools you want sync'd - like your calendar, or just your contacts. Keep in mind it will take a few minutes for the first sync to be completed.

In other good syncing BlackBerry news - RIM will be coming out with a fancy BlackBerry Desktop Manager for the Mac this Fall. The suite will allow you to perform firmware updates, add and remove apps, sync your BB with iTunes, create backups, and more.
