The stars were out in force for Saturday's Screen Actors Guild Awards, and although some may have been focused on red carpet style, I was keeping my eyes peeled for any tech appearances. Thankfully, I got lucky and spotted award-winning star Diane Kruger posing with Inglourious Basterds director Quentin Tarantino in front of her white BlackBerry Bold 9000. We don't see many of these out in the wild too often, but when we do it's always an eye-catcher.

If you've been noticing that your BlackBerry's battery runs out of juice a bit quicker than it used to, it could be that some of your apps are still running, even after you think you've closed them. Check out this tip I learned over the weekend: to ensure proper shutdown of an app, exit through the menu, and either "exit," or "close," which will prevent them from sucking down your phone's battery. It'll save you time and frustration if you're found in an emergency without any battery life.

Bad news for CrackBerry addicts: after conducting a research study, a British occupational psychologist says constantly checking your BlackBerry or other PDA increases stress levels and decreases productivity. The study followed a group of employees, categorizing them as either high-frequency and low-frequency PDA users; high-frequency was defined as users who were constantly tethered to their devices; users were labeled low-frequency if they set aside specific times to check their email and respond to messages.
The study also found that high-frequency users also showed animosity toward their gadgets.

Popular movie site Fandango launched its iPhone application months ago, and has finally followed up with an app for the BlackBerry. Available for download on Fandango.com, the app allows you to get times and purchase tickets for movies near you.
The app works with your BlackBerry's GPS to locate the nearest theaters you visit most often in a "favorites" list, and create a Fandango account to securely store your credit card information to make fast and easy ticket purchases on the go.

Last night at the People's Choice Awards, my girl Buzz got a prime spot in the press room where she overheard Hugh Jackman chatting about his Favorite Action Star win, and among other things, his tech habits. Hugh is a busy guy between work and family, and this year one of his New Year's resolutions was to switch off his email in order to take back some time during his day:
I have the email function on my BlackBerry turned off so it's only a phone (why I have a BlackBerry, I don't know, but I do). And I limit my time — I said that I'm not going to spend more than one hour a day looking at emails on the computer.

I've spotted several especially blinged-out iPhone cases in the past and just found an equally sparkly case for the BlackBerry Curve. The pink rhinestone-encrusted case ($14) is a shiny, two-piece, snap-on hard case covered in rhinestones. I've said before that a fully rhinestone-covered case is a little much for my taste, but I do l love checking out some of these crazy artistic and blinged-out designs.

Although I'm still on the fence on whether or not to make resolutions for the New Year, I can appreciate the tradition. Thankfully, technology makes it easier than ever to follow through all year with those promises you made yourself on January 1. Check out a few handy apps for your iPhone, BlackBerry and Android devices that can help you succeed, and bonus — they're all totally free!

I use my cell as my primary number these days — I don't even have a land line anymore! At first, it was great because I never got any telemarketing calls, but over the past year that luxury has gone down the tubes (anyone else get those car warranty expiration messages all Summer? I don't even have a car!).

In case you missed it (and if you're rocking a CrackBerry, how could you not?), BlackBerry users suffered through eight hours without Internet and email services yesterday evening. During the second massive outage in a week, 100 percent of customers (around 32 million people across North America) were affected and finally started receiving emails again in the wee hours of this morning. I don't know about you, but I'm kind of obsessive when it comes to checking my email and Google Reader throughout the night on my iPhone, so if it were me, I'd be a little out of sorts today.
