What does the discerning photographer's eye of Patrick Runte see? Live versions of video games, beautifully captured with his lens.

The German artist has a whole series of photos that depict Pacman, Tetris, Pong, Space Invaders, and more. I'm sure I could not afford one of his pieces, but this is unequivocally the kind of art I'd love to hang in my own home.

The Internet gods know that I can't fully function in the morning without surfing my blogs and sippin' my coffee, which is why I'm particularly partial to the I Love You, Blogs and Coffee print from MadeByGirl. At $20 it seems like a steal, plus you can totally start a new tech-print trend, and toss those old Keep Calm and Carry On posters to the curb. And you don't have to be a java drinker to appreciate these works of art. You're more of a tea lover? Well, there's a print for that too.

Darth Vader in the Loo: Ian Pool's Superhero Art

Darth Vader definitely loses a little of his intimidation when you see him, uh, on the pot. Such is an example of Ian Pool's work - photography that portrays iconic superheroes and other geek characters in their "real," regular lives.

Check out the other photos on Pool's site for funny shots of the prosaic lives of characters we usually put on pedestals, like Spiderman taking a leak and Batman hanging out in a diner.

Atari Wall Art: Love It or Leave It?

What's the point of just going to Ikea and picking any old wall hanging for your wall, or putting up a generic art print? If you're going to hang art in your home, make it reflect you in some way, and if you're geeky, you can still do it and have a chic home.

Pieces like this Atari hanging, called "Mothership" by Bughouse Art and Design can say geeky without being dorky.

It's decidedly for the vintage geek fan, and has its own look - but is it your look?

Facebook Status Updates Inspire Artist

First there was Matt Held, who turned Facebook profile images into paintings (I'm still waiting for mine!), and now there's Stacey Williams-Ng, an artist who has taken inspiration from Facebook status updates and turned them into paintings.

The artist used her friend's seemingly mundane Facebook status updates to draw her creativity - the piece here comes from the update "Tony R. could’ve died a superhero but instead he lived to become the villain.”

Williams-Ng's social network paintings are currently on exhibit at an art gallery, and in the meantime, I'm inspired to write some art-worthy status updates.

Love Your Facebook Profile Pic? Commission It

Let's face it, we all try to select the perfect Facebook profile picture - preferably flattering and something that shows you being decidedly you. Got one you love? Now have it painted!

To have your profile pic immortalized, add artist Matt Held as a friend then join his group to have your Facebook portrait painted by him.

Held says that he's become interested in "how people take simple or complex snapshots of themselves, post them to their page as a representation of who they are and what they want people to see," and wants to amass over 200 paintings, which he'll keep, unless you contact him to purchase it.

I'm already joining this group . . . will I end up on the wall of a museum for my love of Facebook? Perhaps.

"Flying" LED-Lit Books Light Up San Francisco's North Beach

On Sunday night, I witnessed the unveiling of a new art piece consisting of LED-lit books, hung high above a square in the North Beach neighborhood of San Francisco. Called "Language of the Birds," artists Dorka Keehn and Brian Goggin participated in the literal unveiling - at first, each book was shrouded and unlit, and one by one, a string was pulled to reveal each book, which were then lit up as the night darkened.

If you find yourself in the city, go by Columbus and Broadway at night, for it's not everyday you can see a flock of illuminated books in flight.

Manabot and Robotee Print: Perfect For the Art/Animal Geek

Culture Vulture: Would You Watch Opera on the Internet?

You no longer have to be in NYC to get a dose of the Met: The famed opera house is going to start streaming its opera performances online! You'll be able to get audio and video via its "Met Player" from metopera.org.

While I think this is completely cool - I want all important forms of culture to be widely available on the web - I'm kind of curious about the audience rift. That is, are people who are into opera also tech buffs who watch streamed content on the Internet?

But then again, who's not into the Internet?! Share your thoughts on this below!
