Website of the Day: Sit or Squat

Sit or Squat lives up to its name. The site shows you the closest place to relieve yourself and whether that place qualifies as a sitting or squatting spot. (You get what I mean, ladies?).

It's a fancier, more particular version of MizPee, which is a simple text service that finds the closest (and supposedly cleanest) toilet.

The Sit or Squat application was designed for the computer or for download on your iPhone (they are still working on BlackBerry), which means you can use it when you are on the go and really have to go. It functions worldwide and is based on Google Maps, but anyone can submit their favorite, or least favorite, throne. Now if I only knew which restrooms have full length mirrors . . .

I know that this long list looks scary, but trust me, once you get the hang of it, it'll be a snap the second time around.

First of all, join the Website of the Day group.
Click the pink "Share" menu on the top left side of the page.
Choose "Blog" and “Regular Post.”
Give your story a “Title.”
Fill in the “Body” with a link to your favorite website and the reasons why you love it.
Click “Next."
Choose the audience for your story to “Website of the Day” in the drop-down menu
Add keyword(s) (for example mine for this photo was "Website of the Day").
Change channel to “Technology and Gadgets.”
Fill in tag field with relevant tags.
Click “I’m done” to submit content.

So join the Website of the Day group and share information about all your favorite sites! Yours just might end up on the geeksugar homepage!

Geek Tip: Stream Radio on Your iPhone For Free

One thing I love about the iPhone is choice. I can pick which apps I want or don't want on my phone - no one is telling me that I have to use one or the other. I also love that you can get some of the best apps for free. Take Pandora for example - I'm totally bummed about the news that they may go under - but it's by far one of my favorite free music-streaming programs, iPhone or not.

So I was equally excited when I found FlyCast, an app that lets you stream radio stations from all across the country. I can listen to KEXP – my go-to station for indie music – and a thousand others wherever I have a connection. You can pause live radio, and it runs in the background so you can still surf the Internet or check your mail while it's playing. Plus, FlyCast is free! This really is a win-win situation here.

5,000 Web Apps In 333 Seconds

It's easy to forget just how wide the world wide web is when we are stuck in a comfortable groove of sites we like, our RSS reader and our day-to-day online habits. Simple Spark, which is a directory of Web applications, has decided to remind us by celebrating its 5,000th listing with a video displaying 5,000 web application logos in 333 seconds. In most cases, the logos flash faster than you can recognize them. How many can you pick out, and how many do you use?

Signal Map Compares Cell Providers In Your Area

If "can you hear me now?" is part of your everyday vocab, you might want to check out Signal Map, a user-generated cell phone signal map that notes the strength of major service providers on a map. You can use the free service to find a cell signal in your area, or add your signal to help others. As you can see from the image below, my search for AT&T service in the 90210 zip code showed there is a three to five-bar signal in Beverly Hills, while there's limited coverage in the West Hollywood area. So, if Brandon Walsh had an iPhone, he'd be all set...

You already know that you can easily take screenshots on your iPhone with just a few clicks, but taking a screenshot on your BlackBerry may prove to be a little more difficult . . . without an app that is. With Screenshot (pretty easy to remember, right?) you can take screenshots on your BlackBerry to back up messages, phone numbers, texts, or whatever you may need.

Screenshot is simple to use since you can assign a key to act as your own personal shutter switch to capture whatever is on your screen. Although the iPhone screenshot tip was free and came as a built in feature for the iPhone, the app is not as wallet friendly as free: it comes in at $3.

I have a new favorite BlackBerry app that I definitely would have included in my 12 Free Must Have Apps For the BlackBerry roundup if I hadn't just discovered it until now!

We've all been there - meetings, during work, dinner dates - you know, those times when you can't always answer your phone and you need to silence a call immediately? With the Call You Back App for the BlackBerry, you can ignore your calls and it will send a text message to the person calling to let them know that you're at work, sleeping, watching a movie, etc.
