New Spanish Neighborhood Gets Video Game-Inspired Streets

You know that game where you put together the name of your first pet and the street you grew up on to form your porn name? Well, if some of the residents of Arcosur, Spain tried this, it wouldn't have quite the same effect.

See, the growing Spanish town is undergoing a big transformation, building out a portion of the city to bring in over 60,000 new residents. City officials wanted to make naming the newly-developed streets a social event and asked the current residents to vote for their favorite street name themes in an online poll. Surprisingly (or not surprisingly?) enough, video games won. Now, a dozen streets in the developing area of Arcosur have classic video game names like "Avenida de Super Mario Bros," with others being dubbed with the likes of Space Invaders, Sonic The Hedgehog, and Legend of Zelda.

At a recent party celebrating the opening of the new streets, Mario himself made an appearance, while gaming fans, young and old, wore big mustaches to emulate their favorite plump plumber. "Ginger Super Mario Bros." Nope, definitely not a good porn name.

New Mario and Zelda Games Hitting the Wii

If you've been wondering what's next for the Wii after conquering Super Mario Galaxy and Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, then wonder no more. The E3 Summit kicked off this week, and the President of Nintendo, Satoru Iwata, revealed yesterday at a press event that new titles for both Mario and Zelda are in the works.

Iwata admitted there is a dire need for quality games like Super Mario Galaxy for the Wii, which I have to totally agree with, since the sub-par mass of third party games and movie tie-ins are getting a bit old. Although he didn't reveal any other info, I'm totally stoked already! Bring on more Mario!

Zelda Quilt: Totally Geeky or Geek Chic?

I have a soft spot in my heart for handmade geekery because it reflects an almost old-fashioned devotion to all things geek. Spending the long hours making a quilt of this magnitude has to say something about Etsy seller CarolinaPatchworks - is it she herself or a treasured love one who adores The Legend of Zelda? The price is steep ($425) but for what you get, a geeky heirloom to be enjoyed for years and passed down to your future geek generations, it seems pretty appropriate. What do you think of this crash of video games and crafting?

Black Friday Must Have: Gold and Pink Nintendo DS Bundles With Games

Each of the special Nintendo DS bundles, which will be priced around $160, pairs a custom-color Nintendo DS system with one of the platform's most popular titles, so it's the perfect starter kit. The new gold edition (seen here) comes with The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, while the metallic rose Nintendo DS comes with the "Best Friends" version of Nintendogs. The DS is one of my favorite gaming devices because of its portability and game selection so I was thrilled to check out the new colors (the gold device features Zelda's signature Triforce logo on the lid - how geek chic is that?). The bundle makes gift giving easier because you don't have to buy a separate game in order for the recipient to have something to play with as soon as you give it to them.

Paul Rudd Puts The 'Super Geeky' in Super Nintendo Ad

Who knew that cutie patootie Paul Rudd's early career featured a painfully geeky gamer ad! This Super Nintendo advertisement from the early '90's was used to promote the popular entertainment system and old-school games like Zelda and Football. In this "action-packed" commercial, you see Rudd getting his game on in front of a JumboTron-like screen. Maybe not as entertaining as his role in Knocked Up, but priceless nonetheless!

Totally Geeky or Geek Chic? Legend of Zelda Map Belt

I can think of few things that are more geeky than the Legend of Zelda Map Belt, but I also happen to think it's adorable.

The belt is quite literally an original Legend of Zelda map that's been turned into a belt. It's the perfect geek apparel for next year's E3 conference.

I'm a fan of funnyman Robin Williams, but add in the fact that he's a big gamer, and named his daughter after the classic Zelda franchise? Magic. Check out Nintendo's latest spot for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, which stars the bearded comic, his (gorgeous!) daughter, and of course, the game, below. We do wonder though: is that his real house? That's quite a view.

Zach Levi played host for the night, Felicia Day looked fantastic in an orange mini dress, Mario Bros., Legend of Zelda, and Donkey Kong creator Shigeru Miyamoto accepted the Video Game Hall of Fame Award, and deadmau 5 was on hand to make a musical appearance.
