Virgin America's New Inflight WiFi and YouTube Live Event

OK, I promised you a full recap about my event-filled Saturday - the flight, the WiFi test drive, and the YouTube Live Event - and here it is! Testing out Virgin America's first WiFi enabled plane with Gogo Inflight Internet among other tech enthusiasts was a rush in itself, but heading to the first official YouTube Live event here in San Francisco was icing on the cake to a spectacular day.

I've got quite the geeky day planned, and I had to share my excitement with guys! First, I'm packing my bags and heading to San Francisco International Airport to board a Virgin America plane - I'm not really going anywhere, per se, but the short flight will be showing off GoGo's new in-flight WiFi! Then afterward, drum roll please - I am hitting up the YouTube Live event!

At SFO, I'll board a Virgin Airlines plane - already my fave airline for its awesome techy features - and test out the in-flight Wifi on a special beta flight.

Afterward, it's off the to the YouTube Live Event, to celebrate YouTube's new webcasting feature, where I'll hopefully rub elbows with Will.i.am and Katy Perry, to name a few! Stay tuned for my recap on how it all turns out!

YouTube Takes the Plunge Into Live Webcasting

Some days (when I have time), I'll get a pretty great ab workout from all the laughs I find on YouTube. Some of my friends think it's the best invention since Cheetos - and it looks like they're about to get even better. Not only is YouTube calling itself the "world's largest video discovery platform", but it's also dipping its toes into the pool of live webcasting; starting with their inaugural YouTube Live event taking place here in San Francisco on November 22.

The huge two hour webcast will host YouTube vets Katy Perry, Will.i.Am, Esmee Denters, along with performances by other well known YouTube users. Does the name Tay Zonday ring any bells? I thought so. But I'm betting the highlight of the evening will be going down at the post-show party somewhere around the Guitar Hero kiosks. Musicians and geeks in one room? You know there will be some serious shredding taking place!

The main difference between a brush made with synthetic hair and a brush made with real hair is its ability to pick up pigment. Brushes made with real, authentic hair pick up pigment and distribute it in fewer motions than brushes made with synthetic hair. That's because the hair follicle of an actual living thing has tiny little porous holes in it. So when you have a bunch of these hairs brought together and you try to pick up a powder or a substance, the tiny porous holes can actually hold onto and cling onto the pigment. It just picks it up that much better because there are these little spaces where it can be absorbed. Then, once you apply it, it kind of shakes off of the bristles. Skype: One of the most well-known video-calling services, Skype is a great free option if you are just trying to include one person. To include more people, sign up for Skype Premium ($9.99 per month), which allows group chats with up to 10 people.
Ustream: The video website enables you to broadcast live video content. It even developed a UStream Broadcaster app, so you can easily stream live HD video from your mobile phone.
iPhone FaceTime: Via FaceTime, you can quickly call a friend who has an iPhone, iPad 2, iPod touch, or even a Mac computer. Since the iPhone 4S is equipped with a front and back camera, simply tap the camera swap button on the bottom right hand side of the screen to share the ceremony.
YouTube Live Stream: With an on-site webcam and WiFi, you can schedule and stream the event live on YouTube. Google offers simple and clear instructions on how to set up, test, and manage your live stream so everything runs smoothly.
I Do Stream: The company provides all the equipment you need (camcorder, tripod, etc.) to seamlessly broadcast your wedding ceremony online. You can even rent a laptop with built-in broadband wireless in case the ceremony grounds don't have an Internet connection.

Miranda Kerr Talks "Small Changes" We All Can Make Ahead of Tonight's Earth Hour

Miranda Kerr swung by our LA studios earlier this week to chat about the new Victoria's Secret swim collection. The supermodel also spoke about her jet-setting lifestyle, sharing the beauty tips that keep her looking gorgeous despite the rigors of such an intense schedule. Miranda will break from the travel this evening, though, when she forgoes lights for 60 minutes in honor of Earth Hour. She spoke about making the small sacrifice in honor of the environment, saying, "We can all make small changes, and collectively that will make a big difference to the world that we live in. You might as well make the changes that we can, and do the best that we can. For me I like to offset my miles. I make sure I do that."

Miranda issued a personal challenge on behalf of the event. She'll conduct a free yoga class if 500 people upload a special challenge to YouTube. Earth Hour takes place this evening at 8:30 p.m.

Apple Unveils New Apple TV Today

Before Tim Cook revealed the new iPad at today's Apple event, the company showed off its newest addition to your living room: the revamped Apple TV. Available next week for $99 with preorders starting today, the new Apple TV improves on its predecessor with a 1080p streamlined user interface, compatible with other Apple products. iPhone photos will automatically upload for viewing on Apple TV.

Watch TV shows the day after they air on cable; no week of waiting for iTunes availability. Speaking of iTunes, Apple TV uses many of the same services iTunes users already know. Get program recommendations with Genius, iTunes Match support, and even access your iTunes playlists from the cloud. Of course, apps are at your disposal with Apple TV, including Netflix, Flickr, MLB.tv, and YouTube to name a few.

George Clooney and Brad Pitt Team Up For Live Prop 8 Play Performance

George Clooney, Brad Pitt, and Martin Sheen were among the A-list actors who participated in the stage reading of 8 in LA last night. The play, written by Dustin Lance Black, showcases the proceedings of the 2010 Proposition 8 federal court battle about California's gay marriage ban that was approved in 2008. The real life events were not broadcast to the public so Dustin Lance Black wrote this script to show what went on behind those closed doors. The play made its debut on Broadway last year, but last night it was all about the star power. 8 streamed live on YouTube, where it will also be available to watch at any time for the next week. Other celebrities in the performance included Kevin Bacon, Chris Colfer, Jesse Tyler Ferguson Jamie Lee Curtis, Matt Bomer, and more.

The overturning of Prop 8 is a cause that George and Brad have both spoken about many times. Clooney recently spoke about rumors about his own sexuality to The Advocate, saying, "I’m not going to let anyone make it seem like being gay is a bad thing. My private life is private, and I’m very happy in it. Who does it hurt if someone thinks I’m gay? I’ll be long dead and there will still be people who say I was gay. I don’t give a sh*t."

Hang Out With the President Next Week on Google+

Last night President Obama shared his State of the Union address and is now giving the American public their chance to chime in by taking questions on Jan. 30 at 5:30 p.m. EST in the first ever White House Google+ Hangout.

Through Jan. 28 at midnight EST, submit your own questions on the state of the nation to the White House YouTube page and vote on those you find most important for the president to answer. Several people who submit questions will be selected to join the video Hangout and interact with the president live. Since only 10 attendees are able to participate directly in the Hangout, the rest of us will just be watching the 45-minute live video feed of the president discussing the top-rated questions from the public.

The official Google+ White House page is the president's latest push in an integrated social media presence as his staffers also recently set up an Instagram account (@barackobama) in preparation for the 2012 campaign.
