Eco-Friendly Outlet Banishes Power Vampires For Good

Vampire power month may be over (how appropriate that it was in October, no?), but that doesn't mean I'm going to stop trying to find ways to reduce our electric bills! We are living in a digital world, which means nearly everything needs to be juiced up to work. I've already got my laptop working overtime at the office and at home, so you can imagine that I'm a pretty powerful energy vampire on my own. But I wouldn't be if I had this outlet.

A concept design I found while cruising Yanko, the Switch outlet allows you to keep your appliances plugged in (no more unplugging your power strip), but with a simple rotation, it cuts off all power to your gadgets, so you aren't draining electricity when it's not needed. Way to be eco-friendly and efficient! Power vampires, be gone.

At times, I feel the need to take my laptop and head down to the park to work in the grass. You know, be a little closer to nature in this high-tech world. But with deadlines looming, I can't always make the trek and leave without a power source. But this genius Breathing Partition I saw on Yanko, could bring my two worlds together after all.

Thick slots in the attractive cube dividers make for a green home for your plants and grass, to turn your office from dull to alive. A self-watering system ensures that grass will never be greener on the other side of the office (cause you neglected to do your gardening duties), and I'm especially in love with the patch of grass that acts as a foot rest - how cool is that?

The Trendy Lisco USB Snap Bracelet

I've touched on USB bracelets before - remember the brightly colored USB flash drives? Well designer Laurent Hongisto has designed these Lisco USB Snake bracelets that are similar to the colorful ones, yet they are much more geek chic and actually wearable. You can just pull them out of your USB port and slap them on your wrist, making it easy to access files while on the go. Keep in mind that this is just a concept design so you won't be able to purchase this bracelet . . . not yet anyways.

Finally, My Plants Can Tell Me What They Need Before I Kill Them

It's a known fact that I spend more time online than almost anything else (other than sleeping I suppose), so it's only natural that my feeble attempts at keeping houseplants alive rarely succeed, and they die within a month. The only plant I've been able to keep alive for longer is my iGrobot, and that's because it sits on my desk at work, reminding me to water it! Sad, right?

There's nothing I love more than adding a touch of tech to everything, so there's no wonder I'm in love with this Pet Plant that I saw on Yanko Design yesterday. Designed by Junyi Heo, this planter is a dream come true for those of us who want some greenery in our midst, but just can't seem to get it together and care for them. The outer pot works as an interface to tell you if the plant is content, too hot, too cold, or just plain dissatisfied with your care. Hooking up the outer pot to a USB will not only give you this info through installed software, but charge the pot so it can keep giving you serious feedback like soil conditions, humidity, and water levels. I'm stoked about the future of technology and design, because I'm witnessing products now that look like my favorite futuristic movies that I watched back in the day! From sleek cell phones to high tech beds to lounge on, concept design is becoming an obsession of mine. It's an iPod Dock! The egg shaped dock and speaker system was the brainchild of New Jersey designer Nathan Gabriele and when I stumbled across the pics, I just had to share. Open up the egg and you find two satellite speakers, with the base acting as a sub woofer for you to bump during your next get together. Plus, if you want to take it with you and show it off at your friend's pad, just drop it in its hot little neoprene jacket for easy transport. I definitely need one of these! Mooon Phone Includes Bluetooth Headset

This concept designed "Mooon" phone by Sunman Kwon certainly isn't one of those wacky "out-there" tech designs. With touchscreen, a digital camera, and built-in bluetooth headset, I can totally imagine this phone someday being the real deal. Although it may look like a PSP gaming device, the Mooon, which was featured on Yanko Design, is said to be described by the designer as a "innovative communication device." Rubber Mobile Phone: Totally Geeky or Geek Chic?

I hardly ever hear about phones made out of anything besides plastic or glass, so whenever a device fashioned out of an experimental material pops up I take notice. This colorful SaY phone makes the cut for being innovative because its body is covered in brightly colored rubber. The back of the phone features a four megapixel camera and stereo speakers. Is it too loud to be considered chic?

Portable DVD Player Takes Old Concept For A Spin

Remember the concept for the tiny clip-inspired portable music player that supports CD and MP3 files?

Turns out there is a pretty similar concept out there by designer Yeon-shin Seung that plays DVDs. You insert your DVD the same way you would on the CD and MP3 player, but a little display pops up to reveal your content.

I love the design and idea, but don't think it's all that practical or ready for mainstream consumers, who generally purchase portable DVD players for children and travel. Cell Phone Inspired By A Fruit Tray, Looks Chic

We've seen a lot of wacky concepts, but Timo Wong's CELLS phone deserves special recognition for its unusual inspiration and tactile body. The design of the phone looks a lot like the contours of a typical fruit tray and the number keys are separated by alternating contours on one single surface. It reminds me of a quilted Marc Jacobs bag, so naturally, I love it.
