Weeds' Nancy Botwin recently proved she has no respect for the Zune and I got to thinking about how the hemp-loving hippie chick could better integrate technology into her wacky world of coffee drinking and living on the edge in Suburbia.
Nancy's son Shane has been geeking out with his Mac and security systems since he was a tot, but Nancy seems to be stuck in a technology rut. She drives a Prius with built-in Bluetooth, but her cell phone looks like the clunky flip phone I had before college.

On last night's Weeds Nancy's youngest son Shane jacks an assortment of oddball items from his teacher after the teacher fails to pay for a giant stash of illegal green stuff. Amid the pirated booty is a Theremin, an electronic instrument that dates back to the '20s, and a Microsoft Zune (note: it looks more like an iPod Nano onscreen, but I'll stick with the script). The Zune has long struggled to make it in the iPod-obsessed world, but it was still a shock to see Nancy drop the swiped device into a creamy cup of frozen yogurt without any hesitation.

I've showed you how I'd wire Bruno and Weeds' Nancy Botwin, but now I'm going to take it back old school — real old school — and hook you up with my tech picks for Mad Men's dashing yet complicated hero, Don Draper. All my picks are vintage, true to the era and the character's vibe — 1960's ad man sophistication.

I've never embarked on any online dating adventures, but I have many friends who have — some have found love, while others have had miserable experiences. The whole idea of having to weed through potential suitors not only to determine which ones have legit profiles, but also to decipher which ones could be a potential match seems so daunting. Now if I were searching for love online, a new service for Skype called Skyecandy seems like a quick and painless way to meet people.

Yesterday's New York Times tipped me off to an initiative that will offer British cellphone users free calls and text messages in exchange for agreeing to receive advertising on their phones.
The company, which is called Blyk, is operating on the fact that fees from callers are flat or falling in many markets and carriers are seeking other ways to profit off of cell users, says the Times.
Blyk's website describes the company as a "new mobile network for 16 – 24s that’s funded by advertising."

Cybercrime and drug trade are arguably two of the most talked about and elusive types of crime because both are incredibly hard to catch and measure. While drug trade has been glamorized in the media for being a quick and dramatic way to make money (think Showtime's Weeds), identity theft and cybercrime in general have become increasingly common and lucrative. Has cybercrime surpassed drug trade in terms of profitability, or is drug trade still the top illegal money maker?

If you, or anyone you know is looking for a new place to live, you'd better check out MapsKrieg.com, a mashup of Google Maps and Craigslist.org that will help you find apartments, houses for rent, sublets or whatever living arrangement you are looking. (Well, it won't help you figure out how to move in with Justin of Justin.tv, but I'll keep scoping out tips for all you interested ladies.)
MapsKrieg.com allows you to pick your city from a pull-down list - not every city is available, but most major metropolitan areas are represented at this point. The usual Google Map will pop up for the city with the reddish balloon markers indicating Craiglist's ad for apartments and houses at that location.

Back in the day (okay it was like six months ago) when I was a regular MySpace user, I became obsessed with searching the entire database for celebrities. Yes, this entailed weeding out the real guys from the fakes, but in all honesty you can add people like Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie and the infamous Jenna Fischer to your friends list. Apparently, these lesser known celebs aren't the only people getting in on the MySpace generation.
