Do You Hold On to Old VHS Tapes?

It may be nearly Fall, but I've been doing a ton of Spring cleaning of my own and recently came across my stash of VHS tapes from high school and college. Funny enough, I haven't had a VCR in years - but two years ago most of you said you still had one. I'm not sure why I'm holding on to the tapes; nostalgia, maybe? I keep telling myself I'll convert them to digital format at some point.

Until then, they're still stashed in their box out of view of visitors in my living room. To be honest, I might be embarrassed if anyone walked in the room and saw a huge collection of VHS tapes. What about you? Do you hold on to old tapes, or have you gotten rid of them?

The other night, a few friends and I totally geeked out by watching YouTube videos. And since I love all things Nintendo, it was a must to watch all its old school commercials. My favorite of the night was this one for the original Legend of Zelda. It's straight out of 1986, and features a rap that can't be missed. Also of note: check out the glasses on that guy - they're totally back in style!

80's Polaroid "Cool Cam" Is Cool Indeed

I freaked out when I saw this rare hot pink and neon yellow Polaroid 600 Cool Cam on Etsy, 'cause it's retro in the best way. We see plenty of old timey gadgets popping up in our Vintage Geek group, but never one this bodacious. Coming with a black carrying case (although I don't know why you'd want to cover this bad boy up), it's priced right at $88 - which I think is the year it's taking me back to. Where's my Electric Youth perfume?

Vintage Video Maker App Does Exactly What It Implies

All things old are new again as vintage gadgets and tech come back with a bang. Since you can already turn your iPhone photos into cool vintage-looking pics in more than a few ways, it's only natural that there would eventually be an iPhone 3GS app that turns your on-the-go videos into retro styled mini movies.

Called the Vintage Video Maker, this $3 app is worth its weight in fun - just capture your video within the app, or load one up that you've already shot, and choose between three old-timey styles: 20's movie, black and white, and 60's home video. You can also add sound effects like a running projector or loop an old piano to play over your 20's themed vid.

Hey geeks, do you ever spot something like those vintage typewriters I randomly came across, and want to be able to show everyone? I've been getting really giddy lately when I watch movies I've grown up with, and see the old technology that was hot at that time. I highlighted old Apple IIs and some goofy faux gadgets from Back to the Future 2, Doogie Howser's geeky 80's blogging, and some fabulous old ads. I am even pretty sure I saw my current crush Paul Rudd's Nintendo commercial when it originally aired!

Website of the Day: Pica Pic

Remember those clunky, handheld electronic games you had as a kid? Now there's a website that lives to re-create them and lets you play old favorites like Donkey Kong, Jr. and The Terminator. Pica Pic contains 19 classic games within its simple and clean design. To play a game, select one from the rolling menu and click Play. The game is enlarged to fill the whole screen, and shows you which keys to use to control it - or just use your mouse. Vintage geek win!
