I've noticed a ton of wood and bamboo products popping up lately and just spotted these Handcrafted Wood Shells for the iPhone ($40) available in bamboo, walnut, or cherry from Vers (which has a history of creating stylish and chic wooden electronics).

The Vers 1.5R Is One Sexy Alarm Clock

I'm not in the habit of calling my alarm clocks sexy (mostly because I've developed a hate-hate relationship with mine), but this is definitely the exception.

The Vers 1.5R ($200) is more than an alarm clock though; it's an iPod dock, an AM/FM tuner, it has a 3.5mm AUX-out port for other MP3 players, and it's all crammed neatly into a tiny package, complete with a 15-watt speaker.

Although I love what it does, I also love how it looks. It's modern, yet seems like I could have jacked it off the set of Mad Men with its lovely mid-century walnut finish. This is one alarm clock I wouldn't kick out of bed for eating crackers, no sir.

The Vers iPod Sound System: Both Gorgeous and Sustainable

As much as I have championed the ability of the iPhone to replace two devices and it has allowed me stop carrying my iPod every day, I will in no way stop being fascinated by iPod speakers. Having all your music archived on an iPod, combined with a home speaker, makes a compact and comprehensive stereo system, which brings me to my next point: Thank God for MP3 players and speakers, because the stereo systems of old were so very bachelor pad, quite unlike the Vers iPod Sound System from Design Public.

To get great audio and your entire music collection, you don't have to outfit your house in bookshelves stuffed full of CDs or records or boat-sized speakers. Your system can be a pretty little box like the Vers, which is more efficient, beautiful, and makes you feel responsible, as it's made from hand-crafted wood. They are "sustainably designed" - made with wood from plantation sources, energy-efficient electronics, 100 percent recycled packaging, and are RoHS compliant. For $150, that's a pretty reasonable lah-ti-da to give yourself.

Announcing the 2012 Grammy Award Nominations

For the second year in a row, the Recording Academy has given a hip-hop artist the most Grammy nominations. Last year, it was rapper Eminem with eight, and this year, Kanye West leads the nominees with seven chances at the golden gramophone, including a song of the year nod for "All of the Lights." West is also nominated twice in the rap album of the year category for his collaboration with Jay-Z on Watch the Throne and his own album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. Brit crooner Adele wasn't far behind Kanye, picking up six nominations for her album 21, as well as a shot at song of the year with "Rolling in the Deep."

Bruno Mars also did well, racking up six nominations (that's down one from last year for those keeping track), while newcomers like Nicki Minaj and dubstep artist Skrillex are up for the best new artist category. Halloween Costume Idea: Nomi Malone From Showgirls

Showgirls has become a cult classic since its 1995 release, and with good reason. Not only does the cheesy flick have some pretty memorable scenes (Elizabeth Berkley and Kyle MacLachlan thrashing in the pool comes to mind), but it also has some pretty memorable quotes. Ver-sayce, anyone?

Hair and makeup: It's relatively easy to transform into Nomi. Start by wearing a curly wig in a light brown or blond hue. For a '90s effect, be sure to wear obvious brown-toned liner on the outer portion of the lips, topped off with a similarly colored glossy lipstick. Finish with a very smoky eye and highly defined brows - and don't forget the full-coverage foundation.

What to wear: Sparkles, feathers, leather. Basically, anything skimpy goes for this one. But if you want something a little more tame, go with Nomi's Stardust audition ensemble (seen in the widget below).

Take it to the next level: To put your Nomi look over the edge, be sure to wear some pretty serious nail art. Nomi, after all, does her own nails.
