Possibly the Geekiest Veronica Mars Clip Ever

Veronica Mars may be over and out, but my girl Kristen Bell keeps on geekin' on with "her" website on geeksugar fave Gossip Girl. And of course, in these days we have YouTube and DVD box sets, so when a show goes off the air, we can keep loving it over and over again, thank the gods. Anyway, watch as two of Veronica Mars' geeks debate the merits of Ubuntu vs. OS X. And you gotta love Veronica's contribution to the conversation!

Geek of the Week: Kristen Bell

Kristen Bell fanatic eclaireassuch nominated little Miss Veronica Mars as geeksugar's Geek of the Week after creating a Veronica Mars fanclub. The funny thing is, Kristen just happens to be featured on the cover of this month's Geek Monthly, a hot new magazine that covers all things geek. I have to concur, Kristen manages to play up the chic geek role better than anyone these days. "She's always using crazy gadgets (on Veronica Mars) that I have no idea where her character gets the money for - and she carries a taser. I'm not sure if that's geeky or gangsta, but still. She's also always outfiting iPod shuffles and little tiny things with minuscule cameras. If that's realistic, you'd have to be really geeky to know how to do that."

In real life, Kristen is seven years older than the high school student she portrays on Veronica Mars, attended New York University's prestigious Tisch School of the Arts and (this is my favorite part) is a vegetarian and animal rights activist. Kristen is not only the star of Veronica Mars, but she also plays Elle Bishop on Heroes and is the narrator on Gossip Girl. Hayden Attends Big Apple Comic Book, Art, Toy, and Sci-Fi Expo

This past weekend Heroes star Hayden Panettiere stepped out in true geeky fashion for the 2007 National Big Apple Comic Book, Art, Toy, and Sci-Fi Expo convention. This three day annual event, now in its eleventh year, hosts more than three hundred dealers and exhibitors, and showcases comics, toys, action figures, original art, videos, autographs, non-sports cards, TV and movie memorabilia-making it the ultimate place to buy, sell or trade your collectibles!

Kristen Bell from Veronica Mars was also in attendance to join Hayden in greeting fans and taking pictures. Too bad Kristen was no where in sight for the photo-op with Star Wars characters White Stormtrooper and Blackhole Stormtrooper!

Vintage Geek: Victorian 1886 Spy Camera Pocket Watch

What do spies of yesteryear have in common with the Fox Mulders, James Bonds and Veronica Mars' of today? A sincere love of gadgets. Bonhams recently auctioned off this tiny, "nickel plated, engine turned, hunter type pocket watch case," which once opened reveals an internally sprung six section telescopic lens tubes with internal meniscus lens and front mounted simple, hand turned, rotary shutter (i.e a camera).

The camera was reportedly made from 1887 and would be very inconvenient in use, but is tiny and conspicuous enough to fit right into a spy's collection. In fact, according to the auctioneer at Bonhams, the Lancaster Watch Camera was part of a lineup of forerunners for the ‘spy’ camera – a mechanism disguised as a different object. While this conjures up tales of intrigue and scandal, word is the this particular device, which was auctioned off for £18,000 ($35,676) belonged to a cabinet maker. Then again, who says that cabinet maker wasn't secretly a private investigator?

iTalk, You Talk, We All Talk...And Now You Can Record It

iTalk Pro is a handy little device you plug into your iPod that transforms it into a recording device. At first I didn't think I needed it, but I've found it makes me feel like a regular Veronica Mars and actually recorded a long development meeting for my sick co-worker.

iTalk’s twin built-in mics record directly to your iPod, and its adjustable gain settings give you control over the volume. Unless you're totally crazy about making "notes to self" this probably isn't a necessary gadget, but if you're a student that takes tons of lecture notes, or have to interview people for work, it's certainly easier than carrying a separate recorder. Of course, if there's nothing funnier than your friend or baby's laugh that might be worth capturing as well.
