You Are Now Free to VoIP Via 3G on Your iPhone

As you may have heard me say before, the iPhone can do pretty much everything under the sun except open a bottle of champagne thanks to its amazing apps - except use its 3G goodness to make calls from Skype, that is. You could use any open WiFi signal to dial up your pals for free over the Internet, but Apple drew the line at you hopping on its 3G signals to use voice over IP.

After much grumbling from the geek population (including a few gripes from yours truly), Apple has finally allowed 3G voice over Internet calling, which includes using your free Skype App. Hop on your signal to call whomever, whenever, and now you don't have to go searching around town for a free WiFi signal in parts of town you aren't familiar with. If only this would have come up a few weeks ago when I was abroad, it would have made my traveling life so much easier.

Would You Make Phone Calls Via Twitter?

I'm all over Google Voice, the freakishly awesome (and free) Google service that lets me take my own phone number anywhere (plus a ton of other great features). But just cause I use my email carrier to make phone calls, doesn't mean I'd do the same on Twitter. A new third party app from Jajah will allow users to voice chat over Twitter just by first sending a message to @call @"username." Of course you could chat with your mom just by sending her an @call @"your mom's Twitter username," or we could all attempt to chat with Ashton Kutcher, too. I wonder how well that would go over?

We can already post pictures and upload video to Twitter, so enabling voice chatting service seems like the next logical step. The question remains though, would you make phone calls or chat over Twitter?

Does the ooma Core Mean the End of Phone Bills?

You're already familiar with Skype -the service that lets you make calls over the Internet for free - so this little gadget is a total no-brainer.

The ooma Core VoIP Phone System ($249) is a hub that allows you to use voice-over-Internet calling like a home phone - without all the monthly charges (except what you would pay for your Internet access, of course). Just hook up your ooma phone to your modem and you'll be up and running in minutes. Plus, ooma tosses in some pretty cool perks for using their phone system: Free call waiting, caller ID, voicemail, call forwarding, and the option to port your current number to your ooma hub. And you can make international calls on the cheap. Cheap, like starting at a penny a minute.

Seriously, in these troubled economic times, cutting out your phone bill could save you some serious dough, and that is never a bad thing.

Daily Tech: Could an Apple Netbook Be on Its Way?

A new report by Commercial Times is indicating that Apple could be announcing a new netbook by the Summer, which would be made by Quanta Computer. - Gizmodo

Look out Twitterers, because Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg has started Tweeting his life away. - Mashable

Check out a list of some of the most expensive domain names. - ABC News

Wish you could add text or appointments right from your iPhone or iPod Touch's home screen?
Geek Tip: Use Jajah on Your iPhone

If you're hooked on using Jajah, a VOIP service that gives you lower long-distance rates, you can now get easy access to it directly from your iPhone. When you point your Safari browser to iphone.jajah.com, you can type in the number you want to call or select the name in your Jajah contacts. Jajah will then call your phone, you pick up, and then you will be connected to the desired international number.

What's great is the fact that you can call any phone anywhere in the world without needing an international calling plan. Registration is free and there is no software to install or contract to worry about!

Geek Tip: Use JaJah Without A Computer!

I've saved hundreds of dollars using the long distance VoIP service Jajah to call friends in the UK and Africa. But, even as great as Jajah is, there are oftentimes when I'm away from my computer to make calls via my cell or can't decide on times for scheduled calls. Luckily, Jajah has introduced Jajh Mobile so you can make calls without logging onto a computer. To get started go to mobile.jajah.com on your cell phone and type in your username and password. Enter a number, answer your phone and immediately start chatting! If you don't have a web-enabled phone, Jajah has created a mobile plugin so you can take Jajah everywhere. To download, click here. Do you know a great shortcut or tip you think geeksugar readers should know? Share it in our 'How To' Help - Guide To All Things Geeky group, read more

I know that this long list looks scary, but trust me, once you get the hang of it, it'll be a snap the second time around.

First of all, join the 'How To' Help - Guide To All Things Geeky

Click "Create and Share!" on the left hand side

Choose "Blog"

Give your photo a Title

Leave the category as "general"

Change the channel to "technology and gadgets"

Add keyword(s) (for example mine for this photo was "Geek tip")

Click on the "Add Image" link below the "body" box

A popup window will happen - click on "Browse" to find your image on your computer

Once you have the image chosen, click "Submit"

The popup will show you your image, choose size: "normal" - if you want, you can give it a title (which will show up as a caption)

Click "Insert" and the popup will go away

Your "body" box will now have some text in it. Leave it as is. If you want to add some text before the picture telling me why you think this person is geeky, do it before the code that has appeared.

Click Submit

So join the 'How To' Help - Guide To All Things Geeky and start sharing your favorite tips! Your tricks just might end up on the geeksugar homepage!
