Lego-Inspired Ring: Totally Geeky or Geek Chic?

I'll admit, I was essentially born to love Legos, so my affinity for this Lego-Inspired ring from Toy Me Milano is expected.

The piece is made of silver with a rhodium plating and provides what I think is a chic homage to the Lego blocks, clocks and gadgetry we see so often in the tech world. Do you like it?

It seems like 2007 was the year of Space Invader sundries. From pillows, doormats and sweaters to these Space Invader Rings from the Toy Me Milano collection.

I happen to love the rings because they elevate video game love to a whole new level - they are unique, artistic and, if you ask me, completely geek chic. What do you think?

I was stoked after seeing a commercial for the Powermat, a wireless gadget charger that claims to charge any of your electronic toys without wires, cords, or trouble just by placing your device on the Powermat - finally a solution to my cord-management problems! A few days later I saw the Powermat at my local Best Buy and considered forking over the $100 listed on the price tag for convenience alone. But then reality (and an explanation from the sales rep) set in: $100 is not the bottom line on this super charger.

The Powermat does exactly what it says it does: charges your cell phones, PSP's, smart phones and other gadgets, but it does so with the help of dedicated cases that have a receiver attached to the back. Bye-bye custom iPhone and Blackberry cases - you'll be rocking the Powermat case and battery pack (which sticks out on the back) from now on. What's more, each gadget case starts at $30, and you'll need one for each device you want to charge! For me, this meant spending over $200 just to have all of my daily accessories covered. I walked away a little disappointed, but I'm sure I'm not the only one who's been fooled by a gadget commercial before. 5 Adorably Low-Tech Pocket Cameras

It goes without saying that I love my high tech toys, but sometimes it's good to think outside the digital box and get back to your roots. Your film roots that is. This Fourth of July weekend, I'll be taking in all that the city has to offer while snapping up pics with my digital, but it would be fun to have a sprinkling of low-tech snapshots to add to my photographic collection. And since I'll be toting around my DSLR, I don't want to add any more weight to my camera bag. A solution? A cute-as-a-button pocket camera that satisfies my need for film pics, and lets me maximize space in my bag. Have You Ever Tried to Convince Someone to Buy a Gadget?

Edie Falco's new show Nurse Jackie has not only won a place in my heart for its casting of Twilight's Peter Facinelli as another doctor, but for pushing the iPhone within the first five minutes of its first episode.

A patient in the ER tells Facinelli's character, "Doc you gotta get an iPhone," (watch the scene on Buzz). Somehow I don't think that Mac-loving Facinelli is averse to Apple products, but I'll keep watching Nurse Jackie to see if his onscreen counterpart does.

That line also hit me - I have uttered the classic, "You gotta get an iPhone" line many a time, as well as the ol', "You gotta get a TiVo," "You gotta get a PS3," etc., etc.

I can't help it, I'm a gadget freak whose life has been made easier by my assorted tech toys, and I want to spread the gospel. Do you do the same to your friends, family, or colleagues?

Wondercon 2009: Loter

Although it seemed that the expo hall at this year's Wondercon was a little less robust than years' past, there was plenty of cute to go around among all that geekiness. Take Loter for example. Makers of tees, toys, cards, and prints, their booth caught my eye from across the room with its retro vibe. I picked up a few of their prints and cards on my way out, which remind me a little of the stylized art of Eric Tam, who draws the awesome 60's era Disney movie posters. Obviously I'm a fan of retro, so this little figurine would fit in quite well with the other nicknacks I keep on my desk.
