My New Favorite Geek Show: The Paper

As much as I alternately love and loathe new reality shows, I didn't want to get into MTV's The Paper. But after one episode, I was powerless - not only is the show itself well-produced, edited, and so entertaining, I can't help but empathize with the newspaper geeks because I was one in high school too!

But, times are no longer like my high school days - the MTV class has a room full of eMacs, and the students have the hottest phones. Plucky yet beleaguered editor-in-chief Amanda Lorber started the school year with a nose job and a new iPhone (and my heart broke a little for her when her date texted his way out of Homecoming).

It warms my old journalism heart to see the kids sitting at their monitors, slaving over stories, and wordsmithing their ways to their future. I just know these nerds are going to be my future colleagues, so keep on geekin' on, Paper kids!

Robot Toilet Paper Holder Is All Up in Your Business

I said I loved robots, and I wasn't lying. Would I let one into my most private of sanctuaries - my water closet?!

Heck yes, I would. The Robot Toilet Paper Holder (now available in the US, thanks to Gizmine) is pretty pricey at $40, but it's an exotic import, so maybe it gets a pass?

Plus it's so frackin' cute. I don't even mind that it's pretty weird to take TP out of a robot's head. I'm ready for this weirdness.

Green Geek Tip: Print on Both Sides of the Paper

It's not complicated to learn how to print on both sides of paper, but I bet very few of us actually do it. There are few times when you need to have an actual blank page on the back of a printout, but doing so will save precious trees so let this be a reminder to you!

If you don't know how to print on both sides, simply go into your print settings. For Macs, click the arrow next to the printer and then select "Layout" and turn "Two-Sided" on. For PCs, it's usually known as "Duplex."

And a reminder: If you forget to print on both sides, you can always reinsert printed pages into the paper tray, right side down and print your new project.

Your colleagues and boss shouldn't mind the double-sided printing, since it's a green and money-saving, solution. Heck, you might even be promoted for your efficient idea!

Geek Out Your Loo With a Robot Toilet Paper Holder

Airyusha, the Japanese maker of lifestyle and home furnishing products has gone geeky by creating these Robotan Toilet Paper Holders for where else? The bathroom! I could certainly see myself putting one of these heavy duty ceramic holders in my bathroom, although I'd probably stick with a plain color like white. Other colors to choose from include yellow, red and black and you even get a 100% environment safe recycled paper roll with the holder so you can put your robot to good use right away! Each holder costs $50.

Super Paper Mario Wii Released This Week

Mario makes a comeback this week in the Super Paper Mario game for the Wii.

By holding the Wii sideways, you can run to the right and left, smashing blocks, collecting coins, bopping goombas and koopa troopas and avoiding bullet bills and hammer brothers.

This game was named Paper Mario because the characters appear to be paper cutouts, which incidentally gives them a unique 2D feel in a 3D environment. Expect Mario on the Wii to look cleaner, smoother and more detailed.

Super Paper Mario should be in stores starting today!

Cool PaperCraft Fun: Goobeesta

I know how you all love papercrafts, so when I found these super-cute, ice cream-loving guys while surfing the Internets, I had to pass them along to you. Free to download, these "Fold and Fun" characters are pretty easy to put together, as I did all three over the weekend.

Goobeesta has even provided a blank cutout for you to design your own paper monster! Check it out here - get creative then upload pics of your custom design in the comments for the rest of us to see! I bet you guys can come up with some awesome little monsters, and I'll even round up all your hard work in a gallery next week!

Geek Tip: Play Paper Mario World Online, For Free!

I don't know what excites me more, the fact that there's a free online game called Paper Mario World (W1), or the fact that the game was created by a 13-year-old! When I saw this game on technabob, I couldn't believe my eyes. The interface is seemingly flawless, resembling that of the original Paper Mario games.

Now I can't say the game is your typical Super Mario Bros., as you need to advance each screen yourself and it's not as quick on newer computers that require higher quality settings (you can adjust when the game loads). But it does include your standard power-up mushrooms and evil Goombas. Use your arrows for walking forwards, backwards, and jumping and hit the space bar for using the hammer. Probably a good time-waster game! Click here to play.

Get Custom Temporary Tats With Inkjet Tattoo Paper!

Here's a reason to keep a home printer around! Inkjet Tattoo Paper lets you design custom temporary tattoos, which is great when those 50-cent jobs from the gumball machine won't cut it. Think of how great these would be for theme parties and costumes (these are way better than just whipping out a Sharpie for that Jeffrey Sebelia neck tattoo or your Kat Von D impression).

You only need soap and water to remove these, unlike regular temp tats - which I'll gamely sport for a pirate party, but come Monday, I don't want a speckled mess of colors encircling my arm at work. I don't know what kind of theme party this necessitates, but I would so print out and slap on an Apple tattoo or a Gameboy tramp stamp!

Print Your Own Mandelbot Paper Toy

The debate over what is and is not a robot is a heated one. Most people think a device that's not "natural" (as in artificially created), can manipulate things in its environment, is programmable and can move with one or more axes of rotation or translation is in fact a robot. The Mandlebot paper robot is none of those things, but it does embody the traditional robot shape.

The Mandelbot is free from Fractal Spin and offers a fun Do It Yourself project. You just fold and glue him together. If you want one, you can add him to your cart, check out with just your email address and they will send you a PDF that you can print out.

Boardy Paper USB Stick: Totally Geeky or Geek Chic?

Admittedly, I have a ton of USB sticks and funky flash drives hanging around my desk, but I have never seen one made out of paper. Until I found one while surfing online, that is.

But the Boardy USB Stick isn't your usual run-of-the-mill flash drive - it's made out of recycled paper and electronic parts to make an eco-friendly product you can use in any format. The only unfortunate thing about this product is its website. There's no price listed, and there's no mention of any memory capacity. Bummer.
