Website of the Day: Taxi Me

I've come across a few different cab-fare prediction sites, but Taxi Me takes the cake in terms of design, usability, and accuracy. All you have to do is type in your starting and ending addresses and Taxi Me will show you a map of the route that will most likely be taken and an estimate price of how much it will cost you. Unfortunately, you can't input business names just yet.

First of all, join the Website of the Day group.
Click the pink "Share" menu on the top left side of the page.
Choose "Blog" and “Regular Post.”
Give your story a “Title.”
Fill in the “Body” with a link to your favorite website and the reasons why you love it.
Click “Next."
Choose the audience for your story to “Website of the Day” in the drop-down menu
Add keyword(s) (for example mine for this photo was "Website of the Day").
Change channel to “Technology and Gadgets.”
Fill in tag field with relevant tags.
Click “I’m done” to submit content.

City Dwellers Rejoice: Taxi Magic iPhone App

My favorite thing about living in a city: not having to have a car. My least favorite thing about living in a city: not having a ride home and struggling to get a cab.

The free iPhone app Taxi Magic was made for me - and anyone else who ever needs to use taxis. The radical "magic" booking is one-click taxi ordering and is supported in 25 major cities. For cities that aren't on the list, Taxi Magic can still hook you up with the numbers.

Even if you don't take cabs a lot, at some point you may be traveling and need transportation, and guess who's gonna be your best friend when you're shivering on a lonely street corner, miles from your hotel?

NYC's Taxi TV: Might Be Annoying Unless Gossip Girl Is On

I'm bummed that I didn't get to experience Taxi TV when I was in New York - the service, though described by this New York article as annoying and wearing on city's taxi-taking populace, actually sounds pretty cool to me, aside from the apparent high volume and constant ads.

If you could get into the cab and pick what you wanted to watch, rather than be imposed upon by what Taxi TV chooses, I think it'd be awesome - most short cab rides would probably be only enough time for like four really funny jokes on 30 Rock, but whatever. How do you feel about Taxi TV, New Yorkers? Can you actually change the channel, or are you subject to whatever is on?

Will You Spend Your Tax Rebate on Gadgets?

I know that I'm lucky that I don't need a car and have to pay for gas - just last night, I sailed by a station in a taxi and my jaw dropped at the $4+ gas prices! I feel horrible for those of you receiving your tax rebates and having to spend it on gas. But if you're trying to drive less or like me, not driving at all, what are you going to spend your rebate on?

My shopping lists are usually filled with gadgets and their accessories anyway, so I've got my eye on some fun economic-boosters for when my check comes in. Things like new games or maybe a ridiculously-priced laptop bag. . . I don't know, but my rebate will probably get me closer to some tech-related stuff. What about you - new cell phone, TV, or maybe that Wii you really wanted?

Would You Return a Lost Cell Phone or Camera to Its Owner?

Last weekend I was out with my girlfriend and I happen to come across a lost cell phone on the street. She told me to just leave it, but my gadget intuition kicked in, and I couldn't help but take it home and attempt to reunite it with its owner. It was late when I got home, but I called the last three numbers on the recent calls list. I didn't seem to have much luck so I decided to wait, hoping that the owner would realize his phone was missing and call it.

Sure thing he called in the wee hours of the morning. We ended up meeting the next day and he was overjoyed that someone would take the time and effort to return his phone to him - he had expected it to be stolen or filled with expensive calls to China! I guess I consider losing my cell phone just as serious as losing my wallet because its filled with important data, numbers, and photos. And I would only hope that someone would do the same for me if they found my phone.

A young couple in NYC recently spent ten days trying to reunite a Canon camera with its owner, which was left in a taxi cab. After reading clues from the photos and videos on the camera, the couple was able to slowly unravel the mystery and return the camera back to its owner, who lived in Sydney.

I'd like to think this is a growing trend, but then again, it's not every day you hear stories like this. What do you think? Would you try to return a lost cell phone or camera back to its owner?
