Would You Stay in a (Geek-ified) Jumbo Jet Hostel?

I've been to a few hostels in my day, but this one has to take the cake as the most unusual: The Jumbo Hostel is a gutted Boeing 747 that has been transformed into an inexpensive hotel for you adventurous travelers. Although the concept is cool, the best thing about staying at the Jumbo Hostel isn't that it's steps away from Stockholm's airport, or that you can get a room for as little as $43 dollars a night, it's that each cabin boasts free wireless Internet and a flat screen television, ensuring that you can check your emails and watch Swedish TV in style.

Worried about space? Since the entire plane has been gutted of all its cords and wires (something I'm always trying to do for myself), each room has 13-foot ceilings, and can sleep up to three people. I might just have to take a trip over to Stockholm myself and check it out - I'm always looking for an excuse to take a vacation!

Oops! Top Internet Blunders of All Time

Last week, Time magazine posted a list of the Top 10 Internet Blunders of All Time. My favorite is Sir Tim Berners-Lee, the British computer scientist credited with creating the Internet in 1989, says he added the annoying forward slashes to "http://" on a whim! He also admits if he could change one thing about the Internet now, he'd get rid of the slashes.

Also on the list of blunders? Apple mistakenly posting an episode of Stargate Atlantis to the iTunes store in 2007 four weeks before it was scheduled to air; AOL releasing users' search histories to the public, having to apologize by saying, "This was a screw-up," and a small code error in Sweden (just last week) that took down the entire country's .se domain.

Ikea Shopping to Be Changed Forever by an iPhone App

Ikea shopping is an experience unto itself; there's the imagining of oneself in the room setups; those amazing meatballs; and of course, tracking your projected purchases via a list and golf pencil.

As Ikea as penciling in the word Malm with its aisle and bin location is, there's a new iPhone app that replaces the old technique. SwedeShop is a virtual shopping list custom built for Ikea, and does a lot for the 99 cents it costs. Record the item you want to buy at the end and its location, then at the end, the app sorts the warehouse locations so you can map out an easy route to your goods.

Also, if you're tempted to spend more than you meant to (those pretty napkins and Scandinavian kitchen gadgets add up), SwedeShop also offers a budgeting feature, and will let you know if the stuff you've recorded has tipped over your set budget.

First Ikea Mobile, now this? Nice geeky work, Sweden!
