Rather than going broke on the usual Valentine's Day dinner for two, why not stay home, cook a meal together, and play a few video games? Not only will you save some cash (and calories), but you'll also heighten the mood with a bit of playful competition. Check out five of my favorite games, perfect for couples.

Super Smash Bros Brawl Review: It's Go Time!

Even though I was a big fan of the other Super Smash Bros. games in the series, it was so long ago that I honestly forgot what I was getting myself into. If you can imagine me and the BF battling it out on a Friday night (causing quite a ruckus, I might add), then you must know me pretty well, cause where the heck else would I be? Partying it up? Nah. Eating my opponents with Kirby? Oh, yes.

The awesomeness that is Super Smash Bros. Brawl isn't just that it's a great game to play with your pals at home, or online with up to four others, but the fact that you can customize your own levels, play in different modes, band together to beat the big bosses, and best of all, play as your fave Mario, Final Fantasy or Metroid characters. Plus you can use a variety of controllers to fit your needs: Wiimote, wiimote/nunchuk combo, classic controller, or even your Gamecube controllers so you're comfy and can smash with ease.

There's tons more to say about Super Smash Bros. Brawl when you

Little did I know when I ripped open the box, but SSBB is a total party game too! Accommodating up to 32 players tourney style, it even gives you some help with a rotation schedule to figure out who goes next. And of course since we all love to show off our wins, if you completely annihilate another player in a battle, you have the option of keeping a replay and screenshots of your best move to send out to your pals to rub it in. What a better way to say "thanks for playing?" than "Final Smashing" them into next Sunday?
One of my favorite modes when solo has got to be the new adventure mode. Well, not really new if you remember Super Smash Bros Melee, but in this mode, all the characters join together in this side scrolling adventure to beat the big bosses. However, if you have separation anxiety from your friends, the good news is that you can still invite one over to play co-op with you, as long as you play nice - you're on the same team here.

Bottom line? If I were you, I'd plan on throwing down the $50 for this one. Not only for the massive customizable options you'll experience, but for some pretty intense party playing, and some solo fun as well. Just like Super Mario Galaxy, Super Smash Bros Brawl is a must have for your Wii collection that does not disappoint.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Ever since Brawl was delayed back in November, we have been waiting oh so impatiently to play this 3-D fighter. With so many of my favorite characters to pit against one another, and now the option to play online through Wii wi-fi, it just keeps getting better - and harder to wait for! Finally coming to the Wii in February.

Secret Agent Clank
Taking place after PSP's Shiny Action but before PS3's Tools of Destruction, the trusty sidekick from the Ratchet and Clank series takes off on his own adventure - Ratchet's been framed and Clank busts out trying to clear his pal's name. Hints of mini-games and fast battles await. Portable fun on your PSP this fall.

Alan Wake
Horror writer Alan Wake's girlfriend disappears in ways similar to those in his best selling book. Visions of his missing girl, insomnia, and the eerie town of Bright Falls make for a nightmarish game that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Creeping you out in late 2008 on your Xbox 360 and PC.

Fable 2
The free roaming world of Fable 2 now includes the unconditional love of your pet dog where every move that you make affects him. The ability to start a family and buy any property makes this RPG epic an investment in your time. Available on Xbox 360 and PC in later 2008.

50 Geeky Date Ideas For Valentine's Day (and Beyond)

Coming up short for Valentine's Day date ideas? If you and your sweetheart are more of the geeky persuasion, simply hitting up an overpriced restaurant just won't cut it. We brainstormed 50 date ideas that incorporate science, tech, and video games, for a special Valentine's eve. But don't limit yourself - tackle these date ideas all year!

Bundle up, pack a dinner picnic, and head to the park for some stargazing.
Watch Contact (for the millionth time).
Go to a science museum.
Hit the natural history museum and check out your favorite dino bones.
Go retro - grab a roll of quarters, a slice or two, and hit the pizza parlor arcade.
Build your own planetarium with glow-in-the-dark stickers.
Catch up with the Doctor Who craze by watching the series from the beginning.
Throw a Star Wars party for two.
Whip up a batch of Cloud 9 mojitos (complete with mason jar glasses) and have a Battlestar Galactica marathon.
Visit Nerdy Day Trips and find geeky stuff to do near you.
Go to the planetarium.
Take a dream vacay to the Hobbit Hotel in New Zealand.
Spend a few romantic nights in the Hobbit House of Montana.
Visit the actual Lord of the Rings movie set.

Top 10 US Cities to Date a Geek

Valentine's Day has come and gone, but that doesn't mean you have to stop looking for love (or at least a hot date), does it? And if you're into geeky guys, Match.com has your back - the online dating site recently released a list of cities you're likely to find one. Would you be surprised if I told you three of the top 10 cities were in the Bay Area? I didn't think so.

While I'm sure you can find yourself an eligible geek anywhere in the country, Match did their research to find where its most educated residents reside, and found that each of these top 10 places also house a tech firm or prestigious college of some sort. Top cities include Sunnyvale, CA, along with Cambridge and Somerville, MA. Of course, a "hot date" with a geek may mean cruising your local science museum before heading back to his place to play a mean match of Super Smash Bros. Brawl, but if you're anything like me, that scenario is pretty close to perfection. Just add ice cream sundaes and it's officially the best date ever.
